Have you ever seen a compelling piece of literature in Wattpad and thought to yourself: "Holy shit, this shouldn't be in a dumpsite like this!"
Because I haven't.
And I here I'll never find one.
>>9357684
Back when I used to find myself wading through this kind of shit, I found http://archiveofourown.org/ to be semi-passable, sometimes.
>>9357684
Haven't found one, and not even planning. There's a lot of romance and fanfic shit in that place. It stinks.
>>9357684
Wattpad is by and large where the most talentless unambitious hacks dump their abortions. You'd have to do a massive amount of digging to find something even vaguely acceptable there. Even self-published amazon books are a marginally better pile of shit to dig through.
Has anyone read this? Would it be a good way to start and hopefully get into philosophy?
Very biased for better or worse, take everything with a bag of salt
>>9357642
what would you recommend instead of it?
>>9357642
Worse than Bertie Russel?
Honestly he probably is one of the best writers in history. Not saying he is Steven King level but still.
a thread died for this

Is collecting Bob Dylan cassettes in a (((capitalist))) society inherently mortal?
>>9357581
Not sure what inherently means, but Bob Dylan is still alive

Just finished 1984, had a few questions.
1: are the Thought Police literally able to read minds? It isn't mentioned in the book but they appear to be able to do so- in the Ministry of Love there are several occasions when O'Brien is able to correctly guess what Winston is thinking. I suppose you could put it down to inference from Winston's facial expression and O'Brien's proficiency as an interrogator but it just didn't feel right to me.
2: What is the purpose of the chess symbolism in the final chapter? It seems to imply that the chess problems Winston is solving has some relation to the (possibly fictitious) war in Africa, but I don't really understand how that would work.
3: Does Winston physically die at some point? The "bullet" at the end I assumed referred to the party destroying Winston's identity, and although he appears to be alive at the end it is established early on that all thoughtcriminals inevitably are shot, as happens to Jones, Aaronson and Rutherford.

1. No.
2. The War is real, but just a game.
3. No.
1. No, are you retarded?
2. Can't remember
3. No.

lel good luck reading anything else if we have to spoonfeed you these questions that the book answers itself.

Need a new book to read. Which out of this pile should I read first?
>>9357317
Don't know about your question, but you sure love some Dick.
>>9357317
That one from Dick.
I'm replaying VtMB and I'm in the mood.
Of course, there's Dracula, and Carmilla but what else is there?
I hear people recommend The Vampire Chronicles/The Vampire Lestat a lot, is it any gud?
there is a lot of world of darkness fiction out there. unsure of the quality. Strangeness in Proportion, a newer book, was enjoyable.
>>9357267
Yeah. The lore books are pretty good as well.
I have no intention of ever playing the RPG, but they're fun to read through
1996 called, they want their emo lit back.
What the FUCK was his problem?
Knowing that as a divinely appointed king he was obligated to present himself as regal and standoffish
Bolingbroke's boisterousness comes from his desire to build legitimacy for his deposition of Richard.

Let's be honest. Did Plato say anything that isn't obvious to modern, educated white people?
Let's be honest. Did Benjamin Franklin discover anything that isn't obvious to modern, educated white people?

Let's be honest. You skim read Plato and think you grasp why he's important
Should I start with Republic? It was 3 bux at the used store.
>write a good chunk of a story
>reread it
>think it's garbage
>scrap the whole thing
How do I break this cycle, /lit/?
>>9357068
dont even bother writing until you've read 1000 books at least. Im not memeing you btw, jot down ideas, expand vocab, and read read read. Its not like youd get paid even if you were good anyway so you have time
>>9357068
Don't reread it, have someone else read it. Then if they say its good no problem and then you can change the bits they said were shit and keep the good parts.
>>9357068
>How do I break this cycle
Don't. That's good practice. Keep it up until you actually DO like what you wrote. Don't be afraid to re-write the same idea over and over until you feel like you're on to something.
Will moving away to some remote area so that I distance myself from distractions help me become a better writer?
>>9357035
Depends on what you want to write, anon. If you want to focus on psychology of the individual, then yes. If you want to have a story with lots of dialogue and commentary on society, maybe not.
Maybe.
Probably not.
