Is he, dare I say it, the most overrated author of all time?

Fuck off Stephen you fucking hack reeee
>>
>>9358305 (OP)

Far from it. Faaaaar from it, boy. If there's anything he is probably underrated because of the genre he writes in. If you think otherwise then you just don't know how to read.

>>9358317

And I actually just rewrote my comment because of a typo. Stephen King, like him or not, is a very good author.

Ok I will. In fact I will not abandon academia and continue to be an autodidact as well. Best knowledge gains.

>send three of my recently completed poems that I put a lot of theory and craft into our to publishers

>the five or so places I submitted poetry to responds with a simple "we enjoyed__ but it's not right for us!!!!"
>look at their other published
>One poem was literally the word water rearranged a bunch of times each line

Information.

facts or information i'd say.

It's facts.

All the others require either using facts or analyzing them, which requires understanding of the facts.

Look for the most basic version free from interpretation, essentially.

So /lit, what's the best english translation to the Epic of Gilgamesh and why?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9358160
Why bother? It's not an important work in any way, and there are tons of better epic poems you could read instead. If you're not interested in learning Sumerian to understand the actual poetics of it it's nothing but a historical curiosity.

I've read the Benjamin R. Foster translation from the W. W. Norton & Company which is pretty normie but I kinda enjoyed reading it.

Its a nice epic if you love Mesopotamian culture and history.

What are some fantasy novels that deal with the concept of isolation?

I wrote what I thought was a really good poem but my professor hated it.

How do I know when to trust my professors and when to go with my gut?

Pic related, what I got back.

"Ending feels too neat"

It would really suck to have to read a bunch of these shitty poems and come up with something that looks like analysis.
>>
Not sure if the professor hated it. It's solid critique.

Why do you like the poem?

Anyone here have any reading/writing experiences with the most /lit/ psychoactive substances?

Going to have some lsd for the first time in a while tomorrow, and i intend to explore my relationship with literature.

Ive read poetry before while under the influence but never written much that made sense or read anything substantial.

Any English grads here?

What should I do now I've graduated? Should I go to China and teach them the white man's language? Or should I hold down a shitty job while I write my novel?

>start reading book (non-fiction, theoretical / technical )
>Let's say it's a 300 page book
>Decide to read 50 pages a day so that I will finish it on day 6
>Stick to Schedule, much of the information goes in one eye and out the other

OR

>read it MUCH slower (10 pages a day) but retain a lot more of the information

Can anything be done to fix this? Or is it the equivalent of trying to consume all of your calories for the next few days in one sitting.

It doesn't seem to be a matter of memory capacity.

>In the amount of time it takes to read 50 pages of book A, instead read 10 pages each of Books A, B, C, D & E (all similar in density)
>Retain about the same amount of info from each

Depends of the difficulty of the book you're reading. Just because you can remember everything you saw at first glance on the first 50 pages of Harry Potter doesn't mean you will
also do it with Hamlet or Moby Dick.

After I finish my first book (and possibly trilogy) I want to make a spiritual successor to Bionicle. How much can I get away with before being sued/ not being able to publish?

Is "too many similarities" already something that could be sued over, or can I be as on the nose as possible as long as it can still reasonably be argued as only being similar?

So basically i'm studying at a Lycee ( high-school) in France, we've studied poetry, novels, the theatre and now we have a new chapter called " argumentation ".

Now i'm sure that the French people who browse /lit/ can help me because i'm lost, i don't understand what i'm looking for and what the purpose of this is, any examples ?
Any clearer definition ?

I would really appreciate it !

>>
>>9358082
Thanks for the insight but i forgot to mention pic was unrelated, i'm talking about the argumentation in general, we haven't begun it yet.

There's only so much you can read in a life time. I'll read one recommended story and if I liked it enough I'll read some more. Just blindly reading everything out of some misplaced principle is retarded.
