How do submarine crews know its safe to surface thru ice and how thick is the ice usually?
>>29305118
They've got super high frequency sonar (at least I think it's HF. might be super low frequency) specifically to measure ice depth.
>>29305118
Looks liek they missed the target
>>29305273
How does the conning tower not get rekt by the weight of the ice? Are submarines built fairly strong against pressure or is the tower just forming a good wedge and strength isn't as vital?
http://www.businessinsider.com/how-long-would-the-us-military-last-in-a-war-against-the-rest-of-the-world-2016-3
is this on point for the most part? would the US nuke its own land or would they let the militia and military deal with them.
I feel like if america went full tard on the world they would allow civilians to arm them selves better or perhaps even train them to be minute men
>>29305108
Your link was returning 404. I fixed it.

Whats the best mountain gun? I'm thinking of getting a 4 inch 629 but was wondering if you guys think theres something better. Preferably in the same price range or lower
Bought a Ruger GP100. Definitely gonna be what I'm packing when I'm out in the hills from now on
>>29304884
Fine choice.
>>29304911
This too.
Overall, .44mag is probably the best mountain caliber

Finally have time on my hands again, will probably try and maintain 54R threads again.

Welcome to the best general.
Lets talk about:
nuggets
SVT-40s
PSLs
VEPRs
SVDs
etc
or just talk about guns you wish you had
Cheapest 54R ( $350 shipped a crate... FUCKING RIP):
http://www.unammo.com/#76
best price on a nugget (sadly):
http://www.southernohiogun.com/longguns/c-r-longguns/russian-mn91-30-762x54.html
Best price for the VEPR (20" model):
http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/vepr-762x54r-20-barrel-rifle-detail.html?Itemid=0
Oh thank god. I missed these threads.
/akg/ kept telling me to get a Vepr.
Flandre, is a PSL really that bad?
I just want one that looks like this
>>29304334
VEPRs are solid 9/10 sporting rifles.
>>29304298
>Cheapest 54R ( $350 shipped a crate... FUCKING RIP):

That's not the cheapest.
So, I'd like to do some writefaggotry about some post-apocalyptic naval action in the Gulf of Mexico and Carribean. I'm assuming an unspecified breakdown of existing law and order, with a fractured United States.
I'm envisaging the main antagonists as Somalia-style trawler and speedboat pirates.
However, to add an element of style to the protagonists, I wanted to give them an ersatz aircraft carrier and escorts.
>Air Craft
Biplanes or something. I imagine something consisting of mostly like Fairey Swordfish clones, but those might be too sophisticated. More realistic is something like a Fiesler Storch with duct taped rocket launchers. Still thinking about what sort of planes one could use.
>Carrier
This might need to be a custom ship built after the apocalypse, but what sort of ship might be common enough to do a MAC-style conversion or ersatz Ryujo rebuild. Still need some ideas here on what would make sense.
>Attack submarine
An armed narco sub to serve as the eyes and ears. With most ships being poorly maintained merchant ships, even a jurry-rigged submarine might be able to keep up with the fleet and serve as its eyes and ears.
>Escorts
Armed fishing trawlers, but I'm not really sure how to arm them besides machine guns (which require a manufacturing base that might no longer exist). I've looked at Syrian propane cannons for inspiration, but I'm not sure how useful that would be.
>>29304213
Gay.
>>29304213
Converted cruise ships or cargo ships (more likely) which remain largely stationary due to fuel shortages.
Also mix oil rigs in their. There are a ton, pic related. Plus your ships will have to get fuel from somewhere.
Who all is going?
I have a freebie ACU digital backpack, I printed out a big /k/ and put it on there so I should be easy to spot.
Come see what it looks like when a world-class arms museum throws up.
I also have an ulterior motive for posting this on /k/
Most of the attendees and vendors there are old, real old, REALLY REALLY OLD.
If America is going to have a gun culture in the future, a lot more young guys need to come out and see this stuff.
Pic related: Seller bought this from the DCM in 1957 and it sat in his basement until he sold it to me. Wasn't cheap, but you aint finding it in a typical gun show
>>29303725
I want to go, but idk. Parking just seems a pain in the ass.
>>29303694
>>29303801
For the record, I'm saying th is because I hate driving in cities/downtown.
Due to North Korea's missile launches the US has raised the DEFCON status to DEFCON 3. The same level was used during the 9/11 attacks.
http://www.defconwarningsystem.com/
Are we going to see Kim go nuclear /k/?
>>29303159
Probably. Everyone always underestimates them and its going to end up with millions of dead people.
No, nothing will happen. Japan will shoot down any missile leaving Kim's borders.
NORAD and the other radar surveillance systems will see the missile and have procedures going to stop the missile hours before it gets near hawaii.
Kim and Putin have some balls, but no major world war or attack on another country will happen in our lifetime. It'll be sanctions on sanctions until Kim dies.
>>29303159
Can somebody please explain how a country ignores the implications of MAD with a straight face?
Am I fucking missing something??
Any particular reason to stay away from the M70AB2? I want an underfolder, and to be honest I really like the look of the 3 slot handguard, some of the receiver details, and the grenade launcher gas port/leaf sight. My main concern is the lack of a chrome lined barrel.
And if not that, which underfolder stamped AKM-patterns would you guys recommend? By my understanding the N-PAP DF is another underfolder with yugo furniture, but without some of the details I like, and still no chrome-lining, but more readily available.
>>29303127
Go with what you want mang. I find them to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing aks out there but I don't like underfolders for shooting one bit.
>>29303248
I want a compact intermediate semi auto rifle, and far as I know underfolder AKs are about as compact as it gets. I drive a tiny 4x4 and want something that will fold up without having to lay diagonal in the back.
I'm not terribly knowledgeable though. Should I still be constantly cleaning a non-chrome lined barrel even if i'm not shooting corrosive ammo?
Bump.

This is the second time in two years that F.E. Warren has been under investigation: In 2014, missile officers responsible for actually launching those ICBMs were caught cheating on their proficiency tests and also doing a lot of illegal drugs.
Why did it take so long for gun makers to start using double stack magazines? It seems like a pretty simple design. Did somebody patent it in 1890 and then they had to wait for the patent to expire in the 70s?
Lee-enfields had a double stack in 1900. It mostly arises from two things; need and ease of manufacturing. Remember 30rnd magazines for intermediate cartridges didn't become the norm until the 1960s, before then an single stack did just fine because space was not an issue for a lower cap mag.
>>29302306
For the record, he was was quoting what someone had said to him.
>>29302411
Was he? That changes my thoughts on the matter then.
I have a very close friend who lived in west Sacremento ( Its fucking frightening down there.) and he's whiter than fucking white, so hearing this "whites don't know poor" stuff always kills me.
What are /k/'s thoughts on UMP?
Meme trash
Dunno. Personally I think the mp5 is prettier
>>29302279
The CZ EVO3A1 is better and probably cheaper. The only thing the UMP has going for it is the option for .45 ACP chambering and that doesn't really matter to anybody outside of the American market. And the American market prefers AR anyway.
/K/ommandos, convince me that this is not the absolute best SHTF rifle for an American.
Pros:
>Indestructable AK
>Infallible AK
>Ubiquitous AR mags
>Ubiquitous AR ammo
>Square back receiver for easily replaceable furniture
Cons:
>Unnecessarily thick/heavy 1.5mm receiver
>Is an abomination
>Imported by Century?
>>29301834
It's slavshit. Why would an American want one?
>>29301834
It is so unbelievably hideous that I'd actually rather die in a SHTF scenario than use it
>>29301834
If you put a metal side folder and some wood or orange Bakelite on it would look pretty nice.

I don't understand how you have such a low chance of dying/getting hurt as an 11b infantryman. Everyone says that you'll most likely be fine, but how can that be true when your job is to seek out and engage armed terrorists in gunfights? How can a job where you kick down doors and clear buildings be "pretty safe"? Can someone explain this to me?
Hello /k/, I bought an SKS recently and was wondering if you could answer a couple ammo questions.
1. What ammo brands should I avoid? The nearest shop that sells 7.62x39 only had like three brands last I looked; Norinco in grey boxes, PPU, and some other absurdly expensive brand.
2. Is it cheaper to buy ammo in bulk online and eat the high shipping, or to buy it in person, buying a couple boxes as I need them? The aforementioned store sells 20rd boxes for around $12 a box.
Much appreciated!
>>29300787
Buy in bulk online, always steel, from ammoseek.
Cntrl f. "Free"
Find free shipping that equates to near the top round/per cent.
>>29300787
Have you considered reloading?
>>29300807
Generally I end up being too poor to afford the reloading rigs. Plus I don't think I shoot enough to justify it.
