Hey /k/, I was hoping you could help me understand a statement that I keep seeing around the internet. I keep seeing people say that 9mm has been able to close the gap between it and .40 or .45 due to recent improvements in bullet technology/design. In my opinion, this idea doesn't make any sense; why would the bullet technology be advancing for 9mm but stagnating for .40 or .45? if this technology is applied to these calibers, does the gap return? What are you guys' thoughts on this?
>>29353207
Technology hasn't happened, people just started actually testing ballistics and realizing that handguns suck. 40 and 45 are only better when using ball, with a JHP, it's all the same, anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know the first thing about terminal ballistics.
>>29353207
It means modern bonded JHP's and powder choices, as well as +p rated guns becoming the standard allow 9x19 comperable performance through barriers and tissue. Before it was pretty much .380 tier.
And even now with new guns and things like the extreme penetrator from LD the .380 is becoming a viable option as well.
never be as good as 10mm
Are there any rifles out there like a Martini-Henry that fire a modern cartridge?
There are quite a few Martini rifles in .22lr and .410.
Martini-Enfield rifles are in .303 and will handle safely the relatively mild commercial ammo of today so long as it's in good and proper condition (as in get a gunsmith to check it).
Ahh, thanks :) exactly what I was looking for
I want one in 12 gauge. Just to have
Century c308 and l1a1
Are they shit?
>>29353062
Lurk moar faggot. This question is literally answered several times a day, and doesn't need its own thread. Quit shitting up muh /k/
Just get a PTR.
>>29353062
yes

Hi /k/ /b/ here just wanted you to know we were thinking about you while we fucked with fags.
love you

well done
Is it better to use an AR or a handgun for home defense? Why?
ether works use what you are more comfortable/proficient with
>>29352556
I think your post number chose for you
>>29352575
:^)
Doesn't producing our military equipment in China expose the US military to potential sabotage?
>>29352532
>sabotage
I think producing all your ammo in the country that you're trying to strong arm in the pacific may have more severe consequences than sabotage
>>29352532
wait, this is news to me. is the whole round from china or the internals they put inside them? also yes, that is a terribad idea either way getting your military shit from china.
OP's pic is bullshit, some stupid jarhead double loaded a mortar.
>you'll never own one of these babys
Why not?
>>29352476
if they attached the action of it to the rest of the steel, I might be interested.
as it is right now though, if you break the stock, you break the gun part of it too.
>>29352537
What?
Do you reload, /k/? I've been looking in to it and I can't really see any benefit to it. I can get 500 rds of good quality 5.56 for $140 from my local reloader and it would cost me about that to make the same amount, not to mention labor and actually buying all the shit to do it.
As for building precision/match ammo, it seems that factory ammo these days is just as good, if not better than handloads, and cheaper as well.
Not trolling, I was actually thinking reloading sounded like a kind of nice and relaxing way to satisfy my autism, but I need /k/ to justify it.
>>29352303
>Do you reload, /k/?
No, when my gun is empty I buy a new one.
>>29352303
>5.56
Nah, just buy it and sell the brass to someone who does.
Reloading is typically worth it for more expensive/exotic rounds.
>>29352732
Nice.
Historians of /k/,
Can you separate truth from memery and tell this newfag what this round really was, why it really died, and what the world might have looked if it had turned out otherwise?
>>29352180
bump
>>29352180
Nato and 7.62x51 happened
>>29352371
Thank-you for your useful and loquacious answer
I'm thinking about getting a 1911 for my first non-22 firearm. Should I go with a .45 or a 9mm?
Any 1911's that are nice? looking for something simple and reliable, that's all, none of the fancy shit.
Pic related.
.45 you dumb nigger. Everything else is cuck tier. Especially muh Connan .357 hurr

How can we reduce recoil better?
>>29352080
By manning the fuck up
There's no need to do it anon.
>>29352080
Add 5lbs of lead shot to the stock.
So /k/, have any of you ever gone into the middle of nowhere and shot a COMPLETELY LEGAL full auto when no one was around? How was it? What legal full autos did you shoot?
>>29352066
Dear ATF, please stop trying to bait people. Its over.
>>29352197
THIS IS A LEGAL ONLY THREAD CITIZEN
>>29352066
I once shot a burst fire M16 while in ROTC.
They were blanks, but it was still fun as hell.
>reloading thread?
My first try at 308... Kind of hurts when the projectiles cost more than my 75gr precision 223 loads... I don't have any dedicated 308 powder so hopefully cfe223 will work until I pick up varget, re15, or imr4064...
My last regular loading for .308
168gr SMK
Turk surplus brass
Win Std Lrg Rifle
40.2gr IMR 30-31
COAL 2.800"
Last load I made today
9x18 Mak
93gr Cast round nose
Starline brass
CCI small pistol
3.2gr Titegroup
COAL .950"
Bought these fucking 93gr thinking the were some kind of Russian surplus FMJ. Pretty neato for cast.
>>29351637
My normal .308 load
>155gr Berger VLD 2.970
>44.5 varget
>Lapua cases, forester FLS
>CCI BR primer
Here's a new .223 I cooked up, left is normal 52gr SMK right is 77gr Nosler custom.
>>29351637
Bump.
Can only two people on /k/ afford to reload??
Anyone here ever have any experience with James river armory?
i want to buy one of their m1 carbines and one of their ask and maybe even an m14 if those two guns are well done.
every thing i read about them is really good but that said there is not a whole lot of stuff about the on forums and what not only a handful of youtube videos that are all positive but i wanted to know if any fellow /k/omandos have had any negative experiences with them before i drop $1300 on a new model carbine when i can get a really nice and rare GI m1 carbine variant for just about the same price.
pic related
come on no one?
No one.
I've heard good things from other anons on here about their aks I thought about getting one but a shop near me had wasrs for 620
So I got a job offer to do armed security in Afghanistan. It pays $60,000 a year. I also just graduated the police academy a little over a year and a half ago. I have a little over 2 and a half years to become a cop in Florida before my certification runs out. I don't know what to do.
60k to do security in a shithole? No fucking thanks.
At least with the mil you have benefits to fall back on and perks like the VA.
Get a stateside police job in a big city in florida and you'll be making upper 40s to low 50s out the gate anyway, and could make up the difference working OT or rent a cop.
>>29351376
Its on an army base. Been to both Iraq and Afghanistan once before.
>>29351405
