So I am looking for a 5.56 rifle for home defense, but am undecided what to choose. Cost isn't really a factor for me because I have plenty of available funds and am not an enthusiast so this will probably be the only rifle of its type I will own in my life time.
1. My biggest reason for going for a 5.56 rifle is I have a very small wife who is very intimidated by firearms. A .22 pistol is scary for her to fire so I am looking for the smallest recoil possible. I am unfamiliar with bullpups, would the Tavor have any tangible difference in recoil from fire?
2. I like piston over DI, because I am not going to be using this for any sort of competitions and making the weapon easier to clean after monthly touch ups at the range will be nice. Are there reliable Piston AR's you would recommend checking out, and would they be any more or less reliable than the Tavor?
3. I will admit a part of me is attracted to the snowflake factor of the Tavor, it would be nice to have something different than a tacticool AR like literally everyone else my age. I really only want an ACOG or red dot sight and a flashlight, so the Tavor is fine on that end.
Really any insight will be appreciated!
Even considering getting an ar when you have the opportunity to get a tavor is a slap in the face
> long stroke piston
> bullpup
Also look at where the barrel is located, it's lower than the ar making the recoil MUCH easier than the ar, get the tavor, or be smart and wait for the civiliam x95
Tavor is over priced Israeli fetish shit. Shitty trigger and awful for lefties. You should get it. If you can drop the 2-3 grand fucking do it.

Will the F35 bring small "Harrier Carriers" back to the concept spotlight?
Probably not.

But the AUG is actually good.
Convince me not to get a Glock 20, /k/.
>live in bear country and hike frequently, 10mm would be great for taking down a black bear or even a mountain lion
>Relatively cheap and simple, not many moving parts to break
>Very easy to find replacement parts and holsters for
>Is pretty sexy IMO
>15 round magazine
Is there a reason not to get it? Is the 10mm cartridge a meme?
I have one. It's preddy good. Kills most shit on four legs and everything on two. If ya load em hot they're nearly magnum cartridges.
Now the idea that standard load FMJ are these tiny nuclear missles are BS but everything else is fine.

>live in bear country and hike frequently, 10mm would be great for taking down a black bear or even a mountain lion
A .44 with some buffalo bore would be better if this is a legitimate concern. inb4 moose attack webm.
>Relatively cheap and simple, not many moving parts to break
>Very easy to find replacement parts and holsters for
Yeah, that's true for the most part.
>Is pretty sexy IMO
No accounting for taste on /k/, I suppose.
>15 round magazine
About the only real pro I see.
>Is there a reason not to get it? Is the 10mm cartridge a meme?
They're pretty good guns and 10mm is a strong cartridge that will fulfill your stated needs, but it's also definitely a niche/compromise cartridge in basically every way. It's not going to be particularly easy to CC unless you're fat and/or dress 2x up in most everything you wear and you won't be hitting the range often with ammo cost/availability.
It's a special snowflake gun/cartridge, but dive in if it's what you really want.

Because the glock 40 exists.
I wish I would have waited, but I love my gen 3 glock 20
what would you use to defend your sheep from un-tethered dogs? anybody here have to deal with cunts from the city letting their dogs loose and mauling their livestock?

A gun obviously.

The military has special designations for all sorts of specialists like sniper, demolitions, medic, etc. Why isn't there a "knifer" or "assassin" specialization though?
Because it's the military not Deviantart, day/k/are.
>>29324449
>Why isn't there a "knifer" or "assassin" specialization though?
Because if you have to use one you are already in a world of shit.

You guys know the drill, post your best innawoods stories, and if you have any adventures of your own tell us about them.
This one time it was 10 degrees outside and sleeting ferociously. I was standing on a tarmac at a tiny airfield. I boarded the airplane while it was being de-iced. We took off and flew to beautiful and warm Central America. 90 degrees in the middle of the night. The aircraft didn't bother landing. I parachuted out. The officers on the ground didn't appreciate that and fired their rifles at me.
When I landed, I started shooting the only thing I had - an M60 machine gun.
What a whirl wind of a vacation.

For me it's Gunsmith Cats. Like, okay, it's nice CZ 75 got some screentime, but claiming CZ 75 Pre B is more accurate than latter versions is just the top of the iceberg. Not to mention the Gunsmith Cats aren't even fucking gunsmiths, they just show off their boobs. Top quality anime tiddy but in a manga-turned anime about guns that isn't gonna cut it. To top it off it's about the most precise japanese work about guns, the rest is "OH MAGICAL TERRYFYING DEATH MACHINE THAT MAKES PEOPLE KILL".

I thought these dudes were losing and were getting bombed by Russia, US and a shit ton of EU nations? Yet they're still going strong and launching offensives, why does it seem as if attrition is not taking its toll? Where is all this manpower coming from?

MR556 (HK 416) vs SCAR 16
I want a top of the like 5.56 rifle and these two seem to come up, a lot, in conversation. If there is another I'm all ears but I've narrowed it down to these two.
Everybody points to the HK as being the "best of the best" but they seemed to water down the MR. The barrel isn't even chrome lined. I remember watching a show, I think on the Military channel, and they had the 416 on there with a HK representative. He dumped the thing in sand, mud, dirt, dropped it in water, pulled it up fired it, dropped it again, over and over to show how much of a beating the thing would take. I'd hate for that to be sacrificed any in the civilian version.
Both are used by the military. Both are known for being very reliable. I take very good care of my firearms and clean them regularly. It's not like I'll abuse anything but it's always nice to know you have something as insurance just in case of that SHTF scenario.
I'm leaning towards the SCAR but I'm more than happy to hear from anybody who has an MR, or even both rifles, and what their experiences are like.
I want the best of both worlds. I want the AR platform that's tough as nails as an AK47.
What do you say /k/?
>>29321300
Don't bother with the MR that they sell stateside senpai, it's just not worth.
SCARs are fun, but if you're going for 5.56 you don't really gain much over a good AR, even in terms of durability.
Beretta ARX100.

What is an average day in the military for someone that doesn't get deployed. My friend is an aviation mechanic and hes working 12-14 hours a day sometimes. Is this normal?

So I'm an American.
I came from a semi-wealthy family, joined the military during mid-2000's. Went Infantry for shits and giggles.
Was the guy legit? He is a "Royal". He joined up so I kinda have respect.
But was his military service legit? You're telling me a " Prince" doesn't get preference points for promotion? He had to experience favoritism.
Would you follow him into battle? Britcuck opinions welcome.
He killed many argies in the Falklands and killed Bin Laden
>>29321026
He started at the bottom end, worked up the normal stuff to become a Scimitar tank commander (Which still isn't really that high a duty) and then retrained to direct air strikes. You can't do that shit if you don't know your job well, so that speaks for him actually doing it. Went to Afghan, got pulled, so he re-roled as an Apache pilot so he could go back in again, given they were targeted anyway, so his status became irrelevant.
Every job he did he earned, because they aren't jobs you could have done without having the requisite skills to do them. He chose them precisely to GO into Afghan and fight, and fought a whole ton. Likely got more kills than most of all us owing to being in an Apache.
After retiring from active service, after 10 years, he went and created the Invictus Games which puts in an absolute fuckton of cash for wounded vets charities.
So yes, he has no end to respect over here. He earned his jobs, chose ones he would HAVE to earn simply to stop any suspicion, deployed to frontline multiple times, had a known rep for hating being referred to as a Prince (so naturally the lads did so whenever possible because thats banter) and then dedicated his life to helping any of us who get hurt with money.
Top fucking guy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6G0Og-NGKA <- Video being interrupted on an interview to make an Apache run. The job came first.
>>29321106
How does one get from Tank commander to Apache pilot?
Can the British Armed Forces still be considered a military superpower today, post empire?
Nope. It took all they had to fight off Argentina in the 80s and they haven't gotten much better since.
Daily reminder that Britain fought and won a conventional war in the 80s, whilst America has been getting BTFO by middle eastern children, young Vietnamese boys and Arabs with box cutters since 1945.
>>29320428
Yes, undoubtedly.
They can project 15k people simultaneously almost anywhere in the world in 1-3 days indefinately.
This is not a big boot, but this is a powerful scalpel.
They also have (mostly soviet-made, but whatever) nukes more than china has it.
UK is the biggest threat to the world due to their insane politics. All this gun-hysteria in USA, "eco" energy projects around the world and china building a ton of empty housing is just the preparations for ww3, due to UK losing it`s grip on modern germany. And we all know, how they resolve this. They push continental nations to another world war trough intelligence.
And their intelligence is the most powerful one in the world.
Windsor must be nuked for the good of all humanity as soon as possible, or at some ceremony, when at least a big part of their hierarchy will be present. This will save billions lives, if not humanity in general.
