I'm looking at getting a .45 caliber HK handgun so I can carry a gun chambered in .45 Super in the woods, but am having trouble figuring out which one to buy. I already have a Glock 20, but don't like it for various reasons and want something higher quality.

Costs about $1000 more than I want to spend, but seems to have an edge on the other guns as it was the only one designed specifically to shoot .45 Super instead of just .45 ACP +P.

Used guns are fairly affordable, around $600-700. Trigger reach is too long for my hands in double action, though. LEM is workable, but weird. Because the reach is still so long, I found my finger shifting on the trigger in between shots. I think I could make it work if I carried it cocked-and-locked, but none of my other carry guns have a manual safety, so this may not be such a good situation when a bear decides to charge at me in the woods.

Can't seem to find any for under $900-1000, new or used. Haven't been able to find them in gun stores to hold one either, but I have heard that they have a shorter trigger reach than the USP. Might be the best option, but need to confirm the trigger reach details. If it's the same as a P30, then it would be workable.

About as affordable as the full size USP, if not moreso because of surplus police guns in the market. CDNN has brand new ones right now for $700. Fits my hand very well, and I like the feel and ergonomics...overall, my favorite feeling gun, but not sure if it would really be a good idea to shoot .45 Super out of this compact. Has a low 8 round capacity, but factory "elephant foot" 10 round magazines are available, and bring the total round count to an acceptable number for me.

Have not had a chance to hold one. Same capacity as USP Compact. Seems like basically the same gun as the USP Compact except for ergonomic differences, and costs $300 more.
Which one would /k/ buy for herself?

Not OP, but I have a drill press and recently purchased a couple of 80% lowers to play with. I went with the easy jig route instead because it's a lot quicker and easier than using a drill press. Routers are more naturally suited for completing 80% lowers than a drill press.

Target practice general thread?
Hey /k/, been practicing on my P229. I have less than 1000 rounds through it but I'm struggling to train out the transition from DA to SA. As I pull the trigger I must be tightening my grip and pulling it down and right correct? Should I hold tighter from the start or looser and just learn to relax?
Also, what sort of drills do anons like to do with pistols?

You seem to yank the trigger a bit (if you're righty). A smoother, straight back triggerpull should help you out.
Your grip should be firm & solid, but no gorilla gripping. You don't need to try & crush your firearm.
Also try push/pull:
Push forward with your main hand and pull back towards you with your support hand wrapped around the front of the pistol grip. It might give you more stability.

You are working overseas in contract protection role.
Pistol is not sufficient. Weather precludes multiple layers so no on body carry. Likely going with a 5.11 Select Carry backpack as it looks innocuous and allows very rapid draw (though alternative suggestions welcome).
You need a full power cartridge for taking on armored threats at close range, this rules out pistol cal systems.
AR with a LAW folding stock adds another step after drawing weapon to bring it into action.
Considering folding stock (which can be fired from open or closed position-the option to have the stock but not be compelled to deploy it is nice) AK, or straight up pistol AK, or 7.5" barrel AR pistol which will fit in the 5.11 backpack.
Cost is not a concern. Strongly considering Noveske Diplomat upper with pistol buffer in the 5.11 backpack, as thats's about as good a set up as I've found to date. The lack of stock bothers me, and I would prefer the option of some more barrel length in trade for a "deploy if possible but not imperative" stock.
What do the /k/ommandos say?

Hate to rain on your parade, but I'm writing this from Europe at the moment and am on the move again shortly. I've worked in Asia and carried locally made pistol cal platforms which were not adequate to the type of work I was doing. I'm here asking for a wider cross section of opinions than I will get asking colleagues who will all say "Get the Noveske" on name alone.
