I can't seem to get straight answers either way on the quality of Mosin Nagants.
A lot say garbage, some say they're wonderful, but almost everyone seems to have one.
Well, /k/, should I get one? What's the best price range?
20 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Don't. You missed out on when they were cheap. Just as well, they sucked for everything except being cheap. Now they suck at everything.
>>
>>30566300
The fact there's tons of ammo available for a decent price makes them a good poor mans .30-06 equivalent. As far as quality goes while there's something to be said for old world manufacturing and production any modern production bolt gun will do more for you from a pure practicality stand point.
>>
>>30566300
A musty nigglet is what it is. It's meant to be a cheap surplus gun that is reliable. It isn't very accurate, especially if it's heavily used or poorly taken care of

The ammo is corrosive. You HAVE to clean the gun as soon as you're done shooting it, else you'll ruin it.

A price range is less than $300. They used to be really cheap, but the surplus is drying up

I personally got a mauser m48 instead

Lets just say in the future some crazy ban is passed where AR15s and AKs are banned. How would anyone be able to keep track of 80% lowers? Assuming they would still be available for sale (no idea why they wouldent since it isnt a gun) how would you stop people from making them?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>30565801

Hey you just taught yourself why gun grabbing would never accomplish shit.
>>
>>30565801
Unless they made 80% lowers illegal there would be no way to track them, which is just one of the reasons a blanket AR ban will never work.
>>
They would have to ban most at home gunsmithing

I am a pissant in Westchester County New York, and lately I've been thinking it might be a good idea to get a gun. but I find out I have some of the most insane gun laws in the country where I live. So no AR-15, no SCAR, no fun at all.

So the question I have for /k/ is what is the best I can do, short of driving an hour to a Pennsylvania gun show and paying cash for a real gun?

What type of gun are you looking for and what is your budget?
>>
>>30565460
lets say I could afford a couple thousand, but am hoping for somewhere around $500.

I'm looking for a gun that would be equally effective at hunting and self defense (of my house). Ease of maintenance/reliability is also a high priority.

Remington 870 or Mossberg 590 12GA shotguns. Both are NY legal. Both can take down any game in North America, whether it be four legged or two legged.

Is the M&P full size as good as an XD 9mm or a Glock 17? I tried them out today at the store but didn't shoot them and I like the M&P but it's also the least expensive as the 3 I think. I've never tried a ruger or an FN handgun

>>
It's fine I just prefer the glock's trigger and rougher grip texture.
>>
>>30565403

smith and wesson sd9ve should be on that fucking list
>>
>>30565403
each of the three you listed have a devoted following. Each also has a good aftermarket, though the glock's is biggest. It's all about features after that.

Why don't you own one?

They're legal in most of the US and give about 80% of a genuine select fire performance for $300.

Hey /k/, /tg/ here.

I recently became a gun owner after my best friend died in a car wreck. After the funeral his wife gave me his guns, since she and his family didn't want them. It's pic related and an ar15. I've already sent out my application for a concealed carry license, so now I'm looking for a holster and belt to eventually carry the pistol.

Do you guys have any particular recommendations? What do you guys use? I'm looking for a leather belt and I'm not even sure what type of holster I'm supposed to get. Do I even need a new belt, or will a proper holster be good enough?

Thanks for any advice.

Reports that dallas shooter was using converted saiga in 5.45.

Bimetal jacket, steel core ammo threw up those sparks in the vid.

Where all the 5.45 haters at now?

Got notice today that my silencerco octane 9k was shipped to my lgs. This is my first NFA item and am also waiting for my SBR stamp.

What happens when it gets to my LGS? I show up with money order for stamp and trust paperwork? I have found an engraver that is a prety /k/ dude.

No, you send them to the ATF.
>>
>>30564757

Yeah, show up with your check and paperwork. I suggest you do it Monday to get it postmarked before 41f. Hope that it doesn't get kicked back for some reason.

I'm waiting on my stamps now. My oldest is an eForm1 SBR from March 2nd. You've got some waiting ahead of you.
>>
>>30564774
Yeah I filed my firm 1 online too about the same time you did. Form 4 supposed to have been started already so 41F should be fine.

The colt 901 is not a bad idea for a SHTF rifle.

>ARs and AKs would undoubtedly be the most common "combat" rifles. The 901's upper can be replace by an AR upper, so AR parts could be scavenged for repair easily. That's an advantage guys with SCARs or ACRs don't have.

>If you are running low on 7.62, and can only seem to find .223 or 5.56, you can swap uppers accordingly or vice versa.

>The monolithic upper is a solid piece. K.I.S.S.

The only real disadvantage is that if your lower becomes damaged there might be an issue.

I don't think they're producing the 901-16s anymore just the 901-16se which uses some kind of bolt on rail sections or something.

Honestly idk why they haven't come out with a model that uses an M-LOK rail.
>>
>>30564853
The LE version is still manufactured, on Colt's website it's listed under "Law enforcement" rather than "Rifles" or something like that
>>
The 901 was a heaping pile of mediocrity that didn't manage to even do its gimmick in a stellar fashion.

I picked up a Ruger AR about a month ago and just now tried to get the handguards off. The things torqued on there so tight I cant unscrew it and Im afraid to damage it. Anyone know how to get these suckers off?
