Which books does /ic/ recommend checking out for someone who wants to start over at the basics?
The sticky is outdated and everyone here says Right Side is a book filled with incoherent ramblings.
there's a book thread fuck off
Can anyone be kind enough to remove the watermark on this photo?
I find this photo excellent, for many reasons, which I dont understand myself either.
Much appreciated.

Newfag here. Need some help with some art work here. Haven't been drawing for very long and need a bit of help getting the posture right on this piece. I was hoping to make a women with her legs apart with one hand on her knee and the other on her hip. I also want her chest leaning out and forward. This is where I ran into the most trouble, it looks like she is slouching too much. I want her back to arch in a little more. Her shoulders are also a little (or a lot) awkward. I would greatly appreciate any advice and/or models you guys could give me. Thx
Posing is the least if your worries. Your still symbol drawing you need to practice form and perspective (think boxes ,cylinders and spheres) before you tackle figure drawing (or any drawing for that matter)

Are Board-tans even a thing anymore? I always thought the idea of each board having its own character was cool. I just don't see a lot of artwork about it.

I liked the idea, too.
Thanks for reminding me, op. I drew one of these years ago and am embarrassed I got a color wrong. Will fix it.
One of my good friends drew this fucking masterpiece.

Anyone else uphold themselves to this very high standard that keeps them from enjoying almost anything they make? It really keeps you from liking the things you draw and makes you think nothing will be good enough. I cant really explain it, but Ive had this standard for myself since middle school. Some people I know get a amateurish level and are satisfied with that, but I can't stop until im at a master level. Hope that makes sense and others can relate. Friends say "just draw" but its not a drawing problem, its a not meeting this high standard problem. And the worst part is, you set it and the bar keeps rising.
It is called the artists curse where you're never happy with your result
It works like a carrot on a stick, almost reaching it but never there
It is good and healthy if you want to grow and if you know about it and use it you can push yourself really far
>but I can't stop until im at a master level
You will probably feel like you will never get there, and even the people you look up to have the same issues. They just learn how to deal with it and look at it objectively
It is natural

I don't know if anybody else has this. Though it's the internet, I'm sure someone out there will feel the same. I do hate when I'm drawing off, and will bail on drawing that day if it's simply out of control.
I do have a procrastination or perfectionist problem. I struggle severely with seeing a project to the end. However, I have most a very creative "in the zone" mood during these throw away stages, where I don't feel committed to a picture.
What I'm driving at is. I occasionally look back and say, you know that drawing wasn't so bad. Wow. i did that? Perhaps this is not a true artists mindset. But I feel warm inside occasionally seeing an old drawing and seeing some improvement, or perhaps an idea that was never further explored. Basically, I am not spiteful seeing some of my old work. That is not to say the art wouldn't get ripped apart with critiques, simply I'm not unhappy with a drawing.
I don't know what it is, maybe I got better? Maybe I'm delusional? I frequently hate failing on a drawing, even though It's a required stage. It's a bad habit and has severely slowed my progress.
>>2579753
yes, the standard is what makes you decent. if you were satisfied with the stuff you made while being aware that it's much worse than the average pro, you'll never get to that level.
but that being said, recently i really realized how important it is to draw with absolute confidence regardless of doubts. it's almost like while drawing, you have to be completely and utterly delusional and believe that you are a master of your craft in order to execute everything you've learned properly.
you have to kind of "just do itâ„¢"
this mental side is really interesting. thanks for the anon who recommended that jazz book some days/weeks ago. it was helpful.
i'm starting to believe that this paradox is something artists need to have in order to succeed.

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

What are your thoughts on watermarking and signing /ic/?
it helps me find an artist I like so it's retarded to remove it.
>>2579596
it's OK as long as they don't use those bigass ones that ruins the whole composition
>>2579596
I hate it when there's no credit because I have to ask "who drew this" on facebook and the guy who posted it (retarded most of the time) is like LUL IDK INTERNET?
I do small plein-air watercolor sketches in a moleskine sketchbook. I'm trying to find resources or advice on how to improve the quality of my sketches: maybe some wash techniques, ways to simplify my palette, or just ways to generate a better image in general... literally anything.
I'll post some recent sketches.
The pages are really really small, hence the messy brushwork, which is something I know I need to work on. Tips appreciated.

I have a wide variety of very unique and strange artwork like this in my game Realm of Wretched Nightmares. I'm interested in a wide variety of opinions so I figure this is the place I should come to.

kill yourself.
Time to put your money where your mouth is d/ic/ks.
I just got fired from my job (menial 9-5 shit, nothing to talk about). I have around 20k dollars saved up, which should last me at least till next year.
I'm tired of 9-5 bullshit anons. I want to do art. But I don't know jackshit. I'm starting from zero. I bought a wacom tablet and downloaded Krita. The plan is to study art for a year, even if I don't get to 'make-a-living-tier' (I probably won't) I want to at least be able to walk on that path.
So here's the deal, I'll do whatever exercise, drawing, etc, you ask me to do and post it here. Follow any advice, as long as its specific and short. So, no "read x book and copy all the drawings", you can cite a single page from the book but not the entire thing. Lectures are fine as long as they're not longer than 10 minutes, snippets of longer lectures are fine.
In return, I will do it. I'll do whatever exercise you ask me to do, and you'll get to see my progress (or lack thereof) in this and future threads. Think of it like a game, if you want.
Let's see what you guys got.

I'm sorry but you're gonna have to read, even if you don't want to, some books like the vilppu one and loomis books have worked wonders for me, and I too didn't want to read. all the advice I can give you is read the hampton book and figure drawing for all it's worth by loomis.

Any good tutorials that are straighforward about rendering? I bought this book and god damn this shit is not sinking in. There's all these long winded statements. I need something concise.
