How do colors work? How do i get an atractive and nice looking combination?
I just have worked with pencil looking into realism but i just started into digital and want to get like 80's neon and cyberpunk style for a project i have in mind, any advice?
Just try to find some resources for color theory, there's a lot out there.
Contrast, compliment, harmony, context (Like blue in the upper part of the canvas suggests the sky while on the bottom it suggests water)
For 80's kinda colors just use those neon hot pink and blue on something black.
ive been drawing traditionally for a while now, maybe around 16 years(if you count stick grawings from kindergarten lol) and its basically become second nature to me. no im working on my second drawing and i decided to go ahead and make a full blown painting(probably not the best idea for beginner on tablet) and right now im just trying to make more fine/detailed line work and im finding it quite difficult. im hesitant to turn the tablet because i assume its best to keep it at the same angle as the screen. ive been using a series videos as a sort of reference to help me take the right steps to produce good or maybe even great art. but i would also like feedback/guidance from fellow artist such as you guys on the ol'chan to sort of help me out (*^▽^*)
P.S. im a newfag and this will be my first thread so i apologize in advance for my lack of understanding on how to properly post things on 4chan such as links, greentext, etc
P.P.S. i read the sticky(though im still unsure on what's inappropriate to post here)

theres a fucking question thread for questions and the whole beginning was useless. Your writing style is as erratic and disgusting. Dont pull an illustrat. You dont deserve your own post if its just to ask for criticism if thats it.
PS: what the fuck are you even asking ? not a single question mark in your text.
Fucking tripfags should know to lurk at least.

ah yes, sorry, i knew i was forgetting something.
i was basically needing pointers on making smoother lines because it takes me quite a long time to do so.
didnt notice the question thread either, that was my bad anon
>No new Cintiq Companion revealed at CES
>Only a new active pen for normie tablets
Is Wacom giving up or just slow? Do you think the increased competition has spooked them at all?
It'd probably be smart of them to give up if they truly have. Considering the proliferation of normie tablets out there, making their own tablet is costly and dangerous. If you look on amazon the reviews of the Companion 2 are very poor, they were apparently riddled with hardware issues and because of that I imagine Wacom may have lost a lot of money and prestige correcting these problems, if they ever did in the end. As much as I wanted-and was looking forward to-a Cintiq Companion 3 I guess I'll just have to make do with what I have, or possibly get a Surface 3 or 4.
>>2341017
I so badly wanted a reliable portable Cintiq, but all the stories of hardware failure with the Companions made me hesitate, not to mention the apparent battery and fan noise issues. I also felt it also had something of an identity crisis; too bulky to be a portable sketchbook, too small to be a stay-at-home desk tablet.
So for now I've settled for a Surface Pro 4. The Surface Pen isn't as good as Wacom EMR, but I'm finding it still pretty good for painting in Manga Studio, and the form factor is great.
I think a Companion 3 may still eventually happen - there's a thread on the official forum that Wacom have acknowledged. If they can make it reliable and less embarrassing to look at then I'll be on board
Am I the only one who thinks this is the sexiest thing in existence?
Hey /ic/
Im doing my GCSE's and im not happy with my coursework. Even my favourite piece i dont feel like its good enough and i would really appreciate some suggestions for how to make it better regarding shape and tone.
Id also appreciate any suggestions for supplies (pencil, pens and inks)
>>2340689
Focus on the finger structure
Drawing at a larger size help
Draw more
For supplies staedtler rubber, Mitsubishi Hi-Uni pencil are very good and large feather.

Don't think of just lines and gradients when you draw
Try to express the planes
Watch the proko video about it
One of my biggest growing fears as an artist is keeping my arms in safe and working order..
Do you guys use arm braces at all? Do you do stretches?
I do stretches. There's a link on one of the threads that points to good stretches to protect from carpal tunnel.
I forget to do it super regularly when I'm in the zone but I've made a habit of stretching when I'm bored or thinking about where to take something.
I fap regularly.

just be careful and realize its not the end of the world if you do lose a hand. I had a step uncle who was a surgeon in the 80s who ended up committing suicide after losing a hand in a boating accident.
Red pill me on Picasso.

He had mastered realism by his mid-teens, then kept barreling forward. he was alive for a lot of different movements, and played a key role in many of them. he invented cubism along with braque, created a lot of surrealist work (inspiring a young Dali), and anticipated neo-expressionist trends in his later career.
he was prolific as fuck, too. always pumping out work and trying new media. he had that thirst that every successful artist must have- to always be creating, pushing the boundaries, and trying new things.

9- A decent 9 year old. Better than I was, anyway. Still no prodigy, but having an artist as a father seems to be helping.
13- His training from his father is evident here, and paying off. It's still very wonky in places though, certainly not his father's work, but the work of a student with plenty of room to improve.
16- His formal training under his father is evident, as well as his experience, however brief, at the Royal Academy of San Fernando.
19- Here we see the artist experimenting with a less realistic approach. One cannot claim it's the work of a naive artist, because Picasso is clearly following the example of El Greco, a giant in the history of Spanish art.
20- Living in Paris, he's no longer in the same country as his father. Yet he retains a firm grasp of the fundamentals, while experimenting with more recent impressionist and post-impressionist styles
22,24- In his Blue and Rose periods, he maintains a mixture of realistic and experimental approaches.
25- We begin to see the beginnings of Cubism. Picasso is drawing heavily from tribal art as well as Cezanne at this point.
29- full-blown (Analytical) Cubism.
37- While he is still mainly working in a Cubist mode, he occasionally creates more realistic paintings.
40- Picasso's neoclassical 'return to order' phase follows his Cubism.
49,61- His post-Cubist work during this era often veers into Surrealism.
89- Towards the end of his life, we begin to see premonitions of Neo-Expressionism.

Kron is dat you?
So i've been thinkin about this topic a lot lately, when is that the artist is ready to make some money with his art? Now i know that this isn't just about skill, as contacts and opportunities might matter even more, but i think that it's really hard to consider own artwork that good. So.. Is it just about publishing your art somewhere and waiting for people to catch on and hope that they will offer when they need your skills or how does this proffesional artist thing even work, i really have no idea.
So any pros out there willing to help newbie or perhaps newbies as i'm sure that more people would like this question answered, any topic related reply is be welcome
A career in art is kind of like fishing. Some people with cast their pole and get some nibbles, some with get nothing and others with get the biggest goddamn salmon on their first try. Sometimes its the bait, or the way the fisherman wiggles their line.
But honestly, you will never get any fish if you sit at home trying to craft the perfect bait or fishing techniques if you dont get your ass to the river.
2deep4me metaphors aside, just put your work up, and go comment on other peoples works. Then people will notice you and eventually, you will garner people in your fanbase with disposable income for you.
>>2341590
You have a very pragmatic perspective about things.
Thank you.
>>2341550
Don't bother. Honestly.

Thats lame and unstylized
no need to
but if your works are complete shit due to lack of understanding it would be nice if you studied some
Hey guys just saw this video
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNI07egoefc
I haven't been able to completely tell how I feel about his points but the video does rub me the wrong way.
Can I get some civilized discussion of your thoughts on this vid?
His points are valid.
What do you disagree with?
>>2332618
That the quality of art has dimished
>>2332624
>What is modernist art for 400
Would you agree if he had said standards instead of quality?
What should I study to draw in this style? Mainly the cityscape but the line work overall is amazing. Are there any other works or artists that have this or a similar style? Please share!
>>2330369
What the fuck is with the image you posted? Was it run through some fake oils filter then sharpened or something? Or is this some weird image compression I've never seen before?

What would you guys consider the essential brushes to have for photoshop for texture and general painting? It seems the default brushes are pretty awful, but there are so many online it's difficult to set aside which ones are actually useful for painting.
Perhaps it's to tall an order. Is this just something you fuck around with till you find what works?
Don't we have a questions thread?
The default brushes aren't really that bad. You've probably heard this before but, it's not the brush that really matters, but your actual artistic ability. If you're basically a beginner, stick to round brushes for the time being.
>>2341069
ye
>>2341621
Not really a beginner, just had to switch softwares seeing as sai doesn't really give you the brush options you need to simulate the movements when working with traditional mediums.
Also, I expected the topic of brush sharing to be a bit bigger than something that would belong in a general question thread.
Do I have anything going for me /ic/? I'll answer questions or sketch a request or two maybe.
sorry, resizing my pictures, hold tight.
the trump
as requested by /b/, Hitler sleeping cozily with a smile on his face.
something that stops me wanting to draw is thinking it has to be good, when im not good
should i just throw away everything i sketch after i've done it? i feel like this could remove some performance anxiety, but i wanna know if thats somehow gonna hurt my progression (like if u need to look back and crit, or see progression or something)
opinions?
>>2341541
should clarify im doing exercises and i just want to improve, not looking to make any great pieces
Think of your drawings like frosting inside a frosting squeeze bag. The good drawings are inside you, but they're in the back of the bag. You have to squeeze out 100-200 shitty ones before the good ones start coming out. Be proud that you're getting the shitty ones out of the way first.
>>2341555
this is a bizarre analogy, but i get it. you're weird and i like you
(so i should keep these drawings and revel in their awfulness?)
