There's an atelier near me; I might start attending next summer if I can bring myself to part with my precious, precious money.

theatelier.org
>>
>>2337418
I haven't, but know other (professional) artists that have, and it has really upped their game. art college tends to teach you how to think creatively, whereas ateliers teach you the technical proficiency.
>>
>>2337418
Not all ateliers are equal. If you have any near you I suggest researching into what methods they teach, what the work of the teachers looks like, what the student work looks like etc. Some clearly will be better than others. Some will teach construction, some will teach sight-size, some are open minded, some are closed minded.

Most let you book a tour and talk with the main professor.

I think ateliers can be great if your goals align with what they teach. If your goals are different from their goals you are in for a seriously bad time though.

Are there any video of convention with artist doing digital painting? ZBrush for example, they host conventions and upload videos on youtube where lot of artists show off what they can do and talk about the industry. Is there something similar for Wacom?

anyone interested in architecture? to me, it's the closest i can get to working in art and paying bills. anyone work in the field?

I was strongly considering it but then I realized it wasn't wotth it. Not sure what country you're in but in the US you need to get a 5 year degree if you want to get an architecture job. If your school doesn't offer it then you have to get a bachelors in arch and then a masters which will probably take another 2-4 years. All that work and then you get shit pay and really shitty hours. Not worth it imo. I'd rather have a cushy office job that pays me more and leaves me with more time for my personal studies.
>>
Architecture will consume you, and for the vast majority their jobs are only marginally artistic. But there's always a way to make it if you work hard enough, and smart enough.

2 years out of university.

How long did it take to get your degree? and are you in the states?

Can't seem to sit down and actually draw anything from my head or at all. Have all the desire to do so but when I sit down I'd rather just watch something or waste time. Anyone else have this problem and know how to solve it?

This is driving me crazy at the moment.
There are a few projects i would like to get done, 1 of them can earn me a living easily.

Atm however i do not have the skillz or experience to complete the projects, I am currently learning and have made great progress this last 2 years.

However i'm considering an alternative that's killing me.
Do i hire professionals (people who already have the skills and experience) to complete the various tasks i need done to advance the projects in a professionally short amount of time.
Or do i continue to learn and create at my current pace, making progress all the while and getting better but still with a long road ahead to even come close to finishing the projects at the quality i want.

I'm starting to think i may never get good and have been wasting my time.
Please, Help~

easily

Don't worry OP, you're just an 'ideas guy'.
>>
>>2336138

I've considered this and it's exceptionally painful.
If i am an ideas guy it's not just pulling things out of my ass, it's the entire process mapped out from start to finish with no stone left un turned.

I hope it's not true tho i want to get good, this is my life now.
>>
>>2336123
If it were me, I would grind and get good. But I'm a retard.

The wise thing to do would be to hire people, yes.

>>2336138
>>2336153

Lol, everyone thinks they're an "ideas guy". An ideas guy is just a regular guy who also doesn't know how to do anything.

Do contemporary non figurative painters and artists actually know how to draw? Do you need to know how to draw to do compelling non figurative art or can you jump straight into abstract work?

you need to do some autistic sight size stuff first so that you can claim to be classically trained when people call you on your bullshit

>Do contemporary non figurative painters and artists actually know how to draw?
Many do, yes.
> Do you need to know how to draw to do compelling non figurative art or can you jump straight into abstract work?
depends on the style of abstraction. fully non-representational work really only requires an understanding of fundamentals like color, shape, line, etc, and not anatomy or rendering. it certainly can't hurt though.

Musician friend just said to me (I'm paraphrasing to make this more appealing per ic-lingo)

'are you fucking retarded? of course nobody is going to buy your shit if they can't relate. they don't know you, they don't know what the stuff you make is about. imagine two street musicians, both at the same hip busy road, with enough distance from eachother for their music to not intervene with one another. one plays his own stuff. one plays popular songs adding his own twist and feel here and there.

who do you think makes more in a 4 hour session? it's obvious isn't it? and it's NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE EITHER. people hear you play a song they know and like and immediately connect with you. then they become receptive to your injected personality. and then they flip 2$ in your cup and walk along semi-dancing.'

We were talking about 'fanart' in both music and visual art. It's role in bridging the gap between creator and performer, and attracting an audience. Embrace fanart boys. It doesn't have to be Stephen Universe doing Fluttershy up the ass either, I'm sure there's plenty of tasteful IP's you personally liked and can totally add your own twist to. Watch that snowball your career to the top.

While I see what you're saying, I actually think it's better to develop your own style and characters and put them out there, then every once in a while do a fanart piece. Then the novelty of it is even greater. It's only anecdotal evidence, but that's the trend I've seen garner the most success over the years.
>>
>>2335971

Agreed. Of course you have to work on your own stuff. But the ocassional fanart is what will get people interested in looking at your original stuff!
