I don't know. I've posted this pic on few sites, including deviantart, facebook group, art forum and i was asking for a critique with absolutely no response. Now i know that if you're not active on deviantart and your art is not super good, you won't get much attention, but that shouldn't apply for the FB group and for the forum.
Anyways ITT we post out artwork and critique others

I don't know if you have ever been on an airplane and had a seat by the window.
If you have then maybe you flew over clouds. To some people this looks like a sea. A sea of clouds. Now in a regular sea whats the biggest creature not counting the scary giant squid? That's right. A whale. of course in our world we dont have whales in the sky but this is a fantasy setting. This person probably had a awesome view from way up high and thought man i want a whale in the sky in my fantasy setting. There you go thats what this piece is.

Oh you are looking for the genre of this type of drawing?... pfft i dono my bad ignore all i wrote im retarded.

Weekly thread it is.

----READ FAQ BELOW IF CONFUSED---

So what's form?

Form is essentially how light interacts with an object in space to create the illusion of structure and shape, this then occupies that space with a 3 Dimensional object. This object can be anything from a cube to a complex warhammer character. The principle is still exactly the same, cubes, spheres etc make up the entirety of the complexity in the warhammer character.

An artist will typically light the character using a single directional light, this technique is good as it is easy to replicate the form. However, in art there is a sense of composition in everything, even lighting. So having a contrasting bounce light on the side of the character can create more interest for the viewer.

Task at hand: There are four basic primitive structures of form:

CYLINDER
CUBE
SPHERE
CONE

Now your task is to recreate a CYLINDER, CUBE, SPHERE and a CONE from pic related.

FAQ:
What is this thread about?
This thread is for beginner and intermediate to professional artists alike, any anon on the board is encouraged to do the activities and is encouraged to learn from one another.

What is Form?
My interpretation of FORM is the interaction between light and an object so as to build shape and structure on that object. Light interacts with objects in many ways, an artists goal is to try and replicate how realities principles of lighting effect their drawn objects.

So what will we be doing?
We're going to have weekly tasks that build on your understanding of form, we will try to provide theory (when I say we, I'm referring to all the anons here that understand form) and practical knowledge that will equip you with the means to start practicing.

by joining these forms together you are able to eventually create a warhammer character like I mentioned before, its really just as simple as that. Of course you can add texture, ambient lighting, occlusion shadows etc if you want to get technical, but you can make a pretty solid piece just following the basics.

Now your task is to recreate a CYLINDER, CUBE, SPHERE and a CONE from pic related.

Pay attention to the elements that make up the form of the object such as:

Form: Notice the movement of values from light to dark and especially mid-tones, keep it simple, you only need 2 values to begin with, and in the end you should have not used more than 4 values all together,

Core shadows: Shadows that have the closest edge contrast and value contrast, so where dark grey meets light grey in the middle of a cylinder.

Bounce/reflective light: Light will jettison out from the direction you desire, that light will hit the object, there will be light that will completely miss the objects as well and may hit reflective surfaces, this light then will cause a glaring shine on an objects opposite edge.

Highlight: This generally is where the direction of light is exactly perpendicular to the object and is also where the light is the most intense. Which is why a sphere for example will typically have a dot of white to pure white value on its light side.

Cast shadow: The shadow cast by the object on the plane/surface it is seated on.

you can find your own pictures of the primitive shapes, I chose pic related as it is a good indication of form and directional rendering.

>recreate a CYLINDER, CUBE, SPHERE and a CONE from pic related.

I think separating the draw thread even more is the worst decision that has ever come to /ic/ since the appearance of stylization thread. Nevertheless the only way to win against you tyrants is to come into a thread and conquer everybody, only to unite again. I will do my best to do so.

I've made that art based on Chloe's tattoo from Life is Strange.

That game is very special for me. And I have a admiration for deers and crows, so i've created this version. I want to tattoo it on my arm, i'll ask the tattooer to fix the colors, put some shadows and stuffs..

In this picture, CMYK is shown to be subtractive while RGB is shown to be additive, simply because their colors are reversed from one another. Is there potentially any additive equivalent to RYB like RGB is to CMYK? Some sort of, mythical GPO or something that creates white when it's colors are combined?
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Are you fucking retarded? The primaries are arbitrary. The reason RGB is white is because you're mixing light an additive process. RGB pqaints would still mix to black/mud just bwith a bit wonky of a gamut. I mean the Munsell model has 5 for that reason. No need sacrificing your gamut size.
>>
>>2361422
>Are you fucking retarded
Wow, rude. Ignorant maybe, but not retarded. So if one were to try and mix light with the RYB primaries, could it potentially result in white (light)? Thank you for the reply, by the way. I've already learned much from you.

Can we just agree to stop this meme so people don't accidentally fall for it?

I mean, we can all agree that its a fun hobby, and we can all laugh at people who take it too seriously and waste their lives by treating the arts as if they were worth anything. But there are actually impressionable people browsing who are probably at the age where they are thinking about the direction of their lives.

I don't think I can live with myself knowing I was partly responsible for ruining some kids life by dooming him to a (what is laughably called) "career" in the arts

im assuming these are examples of shit to add to the pastebin...
if i had to say anything, charcoal is easier to work with due to how it wants to smudge than chalk, though style of charcoal differs.

how do they transfer shit, depends on the time and what was available to them, many artists tend to use a method of projecting onto a scene, forget what it was called, or if they already had a drawing, grid the shit out.

as for cross hatching, look up etchers, they had some of the most sophisticated crosshatching you can find, everything else is just a simplification of this base on time constraints, needs or skill.

anything else you are on your own, the hatching and blowing up an image will likely get a note in the next bin iteration though, everything else has either never been asked or to specific/out of my realm of ill stand by it.

>>2346498
always thing while you do anything, tracing will help you understand why an artist made a line here, why this is the way it is, blaa blaa blaa, never mindlessly do anything.

that's honestly not bad, most 16 to 17 year olds work looks like shit and is doodles at best, usually angst ridden. granted looking at the people who were in independent arts paintings, some of them were good enough to sell... and some of them were autism levels because the good art teacher left and a bad one stepped in and did not reign in people autism.

cranium, gesture, construct on top, all the while fixing shit where needed.

you don't so much as mindlessly copy references, you construct them with your own knowledge and when you have a hang up you look at your fucking refrence and find out what that hang up is and learn.
