Hello, /ic/ please help me out with my homework. What good and famous digital artists can you name that work with sci-fi illustration? Retro sci-fi artists would be good too, but digital ones are especially important. Help a guy out. I thank you in advance.
>good
>digital
>artist
pick a combination that doesn't include digital

sci fi ??? damn. you won't find any working in sci fi. way underrepresented. sorry anon.
Does being emotionally invested in art makes it better?
Whenever I draw things that I'm not emotionally invested in they come out looking much better than those which I do.
I believe that this is because I can just cut and delete and edit without caring too much about the subject. I can see it more objectively. I believe that this is why doctors are discouraged to treat family members.
http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2012/10/doctors-treat-family-friends.html
I tend to procrastinate a lot when I draw something that I really care about. Something too personal. It feels painful.
So ideally I would just be more detached right?
But how would you feel if a piece of art that has really changed you and affected you turned out to be nothing but a cold mechanical process? Something that the artist didn't really cared about. Wouldn't you feel betrayed?
I don't want to give those kinds of feelings to the audience.
What's you attitude towards this Anons?

>Muh trypophobia

Fuck you.
Having personal or emotional investment is what drives me forward in my art.
When I make something personal, the stakes are higher. The piece or subject now has meaning that I connect to directly. And when the stakes are higher, I tend to put more effort into it. My person is in that art. Failure will hurt much more, as the art now has a part of me in it. Success will feel even sweeter though, as the accomplishment and victory is both an artistic one as well as one of personal growth.
That is just me though.
Lately I've been thinking, "I am who I surround myself by." I'm tired of posting on mainstream art gallery sites because what I want to create isn't getting me enough attention or critique to improve my art. I'm not super special or anything, but I feel I must try and move someplace else focused on art.
My question is, is /ic/ really a good place to move to? Are there any long term artists here that felt like this is a good learning environment? Are there enough access to resources, guides, and honest critique that you feel were changed by being here?
Is there anything the /ic/ environment could improve on?

The resources they provide ya here are good, and some of the chaps here truly give out neat tips.
People really don't care about your feelings here, unlike DeviantART's stereotype userbase.
now stop being a faggot and making stupid threads
>>2359659
You could have been drawing Loomis instead of typing long-ass shitpost. Git gut.
No matter how much I try I CANNOT draw two shapes that are the same size and shape. Any face, eyes, etc that I draw are always gibbled and lopsided.
How do I fix? And I mentally retarded for life?
Is this what happens when you work in an art supply store for too long?

Kill yourself.
Good job OP.
what the fuck
Im working in this, is a request for a friend. What do you think?. Is no finish Im still working on it their suppose to be apples wrapped in a measuring tape
apples are too plain
the composition is off, too central. there are too many colors for such fragmented planes or at least it feels that way since their contrast is not pleasing try to define a set of colors that are nice to look at maybe use the color you had on the backgroung for those apples
Post em now.

Is Kim Jung gi autistic? Is that the only way to be as good as him?
>>2355640
>It's so farfetched to believe that someone who practices countless hours every day can master something!
He's not as autistic as this thread.
was he artistic?
how many hours a day for steady improvement should I draw and paint?
I'd like to achieve pic related level but I'm still a beginner
>I'd like to achieve pic related level but I'm still a beginner
No shit, really? Wow, I thought only mileage'd artists asked stupid questions!
>>2360444
wow, why so bitter? I just asked a question
>>2360449
Me too, and there is another one: So what?
Please post every art community/forum you know better than /ic/. Not posting websites like artstation/da, communities, more like conceptart.org
I'll list the ones I know.
conceptart.org/forum
crimsondaggers
permanoobs
wetcanvas
mattepainters
Sure post all the good ones so the shitbags that wallow on this site can migrate to your 'holy grails' and shit up those as well.
>>2359445
Generally 4chan shitposters don't act like asshats once they've got a name associated with them.
>>2359451
yeah i agree. 4chan has this curse that decent people feel like they have to act like assbags.
btw i made this thread to only get the name of the forum i found here, then forgot. it had a decent population, not very crowded. it's name had something like "medal, medallian, champion, badge" or something in it.
does anyone know that forum?
hey
I love working NOT on the computer (exclusively, anyway)
examples of successful/notable contemporary artists who aren't /entirely/ digital?
or discuss about it?
personally i just love the feeling of pen on paper, marker on paper, etc. even if I have to go fix it or make it better digitally I don't ever want to let go of that beauty.
pic is from Bryan O'Malley's tumblr
>>2358834
>I love working NOT on the computer
I wish you had worded that better so you didn't seem like an attention hungry asshole
nb
>>2358837
sorry i was being an asshole hungry for attention
ok i realize i'm making it sound like one is better than the other. that's not what i want.
it seems like there's so many opportunities for digital artists and none for people who like to work with pen/marker/etc. I don't know where to find likeminded people or a support group. I would like to find people who are likeminded or learn about opportunities that I can work with others on pen and paper.
how should i word it better?
>>2358841
Different anon
1st off, as long as it was a geinuine grammatical mistake, this guy>>2358837 is just being a dick. IF you did do it on purpose, well, you made your peace there.
2ndly, if your wanting to become a commerical artist, it could be more difficult. Im not a commerical artist myself, so take this with a pound of salt, but i would think that as long as your making quality work at a good pace, and you scan it into your computer at a good quality, it shouldn't really matter how you did it.
It would probably be very diffiuclt if your client wanted you to alter certain aspects of the picture (shading, colors, ect.).And you have to account for physical art supplies used; whilst in digital art you have inifinite paint, graphite, charcoal, canvases, ect.
However, if you want to try and become of a patreon artist (which has mixed results) its very possible. I know of this one artist who makes a webcomic called "Lets Speak English!"
http://www.marycagle.com/letsspeakenglish/1-shingeki-no-kodomo
Its really funny, and it is all done traditonally with ink and paper. Maybe you could email her and see what she exactly feels about being a traditional artist in the modern era.
She isn't an artist by trade, but she makes a nice webcomic.

Wow, so inspiring. Let me get right back to producing uninspiring, banal works so I can one day have a shot at entering a vapid, soulless industry as another cog.

Just woke up; going to have some fun today. Whether I learn anything or not, at least I'll have drawn a lot.

Still a long way to go, probably not going to make it; I suck and I have a cold-but let's keep going. These ambiguous scribbles won't draw themselves.
