By virtue of how deliberate the light is going to be in the piece in order to pull it off, you'll have to consider it it's own character. The sketches are hard to compare because they both evoke different moods - think cinematography. How does it feel if a character is spot lit versus lit softly from behind?
That said, your draft colors are extremely dark. It might just be because it's a rough idea, but look to Cornwell, Grimshaw, or Levitan to see how they handled moonlit situations - a lot of it is about keying your piece, and the color of the light and the shadows. It all depends on what special thing you want to say with the piece; if high contrasting values don't fit the mood, then find out what it is that evokes a feeling of moonlight and go back into the piece with values that fit closer.
Hey creators! I'm a beginner ish artist looking to step up my game and purchase pencils etc so I can improve shading and overall my drawings obviously. Do you think this would be a good buy? http://www.amazon.com/Pro-18-Piece-Sketch-Draw-Pencil/dp/B000HTBBO8#immersive-view_1457537477998 thanks!
I've never heard of the brand Pro Art.
I'd recommend going to a local art shop and picking out a few loose pencils above buying a set like that.
If you're anything like me, you don't end up using half the things in the set.
Hi,
I'm thinking of doing some modeling for an art class. The only problem is I don't know any poses.
Can anyone help me out and post some images of good poses?

Wrong place to advertise, weirdo.
this ridiculous art
of which we're all part
of striving to strive
or pretending to care
that something is there
it's light and it's dark
what a foolish remark
to think we all live
through the same bullshit dream
we don't understand
we don't give a damn
fuck is going on anymore
>>2434350
exactly
I have dilemma guys. I'm about to finish "key to drawing" I learned so much from this book but I still feel dump. My question is should I start next Loomis or I should do "drawing a box" and next Loomis. I would gladly hear your answer and experience with both of sources
>>2434271
imo, do Perspective Made Easy next. It helps with foreshortening and stuff. It's perspective for idiots (dat's you!)
Who would you pick to design the new UK Houses of Parliament? Living architects only.

You can't redesign perfection.

What did she mean by this?
She thinks that she can discount critiques by attributing what people view as flaws in anatomy to stylistic choices.

Anon, that's a little girl.
She doesn't know any better.

Anyone knows if doing Graphic Design is a good first step to practice and get into the Animation Industry???
Anyone knows if making Italian food i a good first step to practice and get into the Food Industry?
Your question is retarded and reeks of underage bullshit.
It's not a bad step, however the stuff you learn in graphic design is useful but misses a lot of elements you'd need to learn to be successful at animation. Personally I think you'd be better of going into illustration. You'll learn more relevant skills that way.
To use a really loose metaphor, learning to be an interior designer isn't a bad way to learn about furniture, but you're probably better off studying carpentry if you want to make furniture.
>>2433917
Graphic design is about visually communicating messages through the use of imagery like magazines, logos, icons, layouts, etc.
Animation isn't that.

>In September 1990, Schlutz was struck by a propeller as he worked on a plane's engine at Longmont's Vance Brandt Airport. It ended his aeronautical career in an instant. But the accident also triggered something in his brain, an artistic talent that had lain dormant for a lifetime.
Is this the secret to getting gud? Is there surgery to remove the left side of the brain?
>>2435512
Yeah, in your left side are the centers of language, logical knowledge and whatever you need to make a patreon on your own.
>>2435512
the whole left brain/right brain thing is horseshit
>>2437136
Basically this some people might be dominant in one brain but each side can learn what the other can equally well.
Writer fag here, looking to do some early research for having my work illustrated.
>Has anyone here done any illustration work?
>What did you charge?
>Were you okay with ceding any reproduction and royalty rights to the client?
>what's the standard amount of information and format you ask for?
I often watch Pumping Iron and laugh at Lou speech problems when I work, is that ok?
>>2430022
It is honestly expected of you.
>>2429896
>Has anyone here done any illustration work?
Yes.
>What did you charge?
30-40 bucks an hour, a highly detailed painting like pic related probably would probably take 40+ hours (because you also have to do a number of sketches and planning before you paint etc). Might seem expensive but if you freelance you have to pay a bunch of employers fees, sales tax for services and income tax etc so not that much of it ends up in your pockets. But all employers have to pay them.
>Were you okay with ceding any reproduction and royalty rights to the client?
Most work is work-for-hire, but if you're doing a book cover for a best-selling author it might make sense for the artist to ask for a lower rate in exchange for a higher cut of royalties, not common in the hand-to-mouth freelance style most people on /ic/ are trying to get into
>what's the standard amount of information and format you ask for?
As much as possible, format doesn't matter that much just specify if it's for print or online because the color system varies
What's the best way to go about trying to sell artwork online?
Put it online and sell it.

trying killing yourself as a publicity stunt
>>2436819
Are there any websites that would be helpful?
Some examples to draw something a photo can't capture? Especially in architecture?
>>2437496
is this your homework or wat?
>>2437504
yea

That's some sexy lines
Thoughts? Also, www.ryanlloydmorris.com for more of this stuff.

Looks like generic fantasy shit on a creepy/gothy streak rather than actual surrealism to me.

Now that you've thoroughly labeled this person and their art with your buzzword bank, you can peacefully rest tonight. Boy, how I envy you.

Why would you envy him?
