Was Hitler a good strategist. Or were all if not most of the Nazi victories achieved because of Hitler's top staff
He was right to support the armored attack through the ardennes in 1940. Other than that I can't think of any other situation where Hitler's Judgement was helpful.

He was setting himself up for failure all they way back during his jail time, with that Greater Germany crap.
I hate how paradigm shifts are never accounted for. War changed dramatically during ww2
If the SU hadn't invaded alongside and the Poles had sufficient forewarning, how differently would the ensuing conflict had gone?
>>949592
Not gonna lie, dude. This is a retarded question. Germany was a war economy, and was preparing for war; no matter the cost. Poland would still get buttfucked, End of discussion.
>>949607
Which is why it took them over a month.
Also note that I specified that the Poles could get fully mobilised and it wasn't a surprise. Considering Germany lost 25% of it's initial attack force in the first few days...
the Heer was hella overrated, you can't disagree with that.

People tend to brush over the war in Poland but there was significant resistance.

Afaik Poland had virtually no air force so that's a factor. I guess they would have switched to gorilla warfare pretty early. Poland is quite big and you got woods and swamps and stuff.
What are some essential or recommended reading for Roman History?
Not that.
>>958807
Why, and what do you suggest in its place for Late Roman history?
>>958815
He was a rabid anti-Catholic who claimed that evil Christianity destroyed Rome and plunged the world into a thousand years of Dark Ages, a view universally rejected by any serious historians today.
The guys over at /k/ told me that this Pilotka is from the 80s and that the star is wrong. I was wondering if anyone here could confirm and tell me where I could get an authentic and correct star for this. I paid 10 bucks for it so I won't be devastated if it's fake but it would be cool to make it fully authentic if I can.

I think the insignia is taken from a peaked cap. I don't think the hat itself is "wrong", it just has the wrong isignia attached to it. Since it's from the 80s, I doubt it is fake at all, since there is plenty of surplus junk still being sold.
>>957409
Do you happen to know what the correct insignia would look like for this cap? I have seen so many kinds.

Fought several years just to unify Germany then established a balance of power in Europe that existed until Wilhelm 2 joined the aggressive grab for colonies. He was actually pretty based, but his system of alliances could attribute to the bigger problem of WW1 (which was a direct result of Wilhelm 2's war mongering, not Bismarck's).

No problem m8. I have it because I want to learn history as a hobby/interest (so I can join in on the big boy banter on /his/) But skimming through it, it seems kind of lean, and you might know a lot of this stuff from just browsing on here. So I'd recommend reading another book after this.

Why do Chinese Shills always claim that Tibet Belongs to China because of the fact that they were a part of the Qing Dynasty yet at the same time denouce the Qing Dynasty and Blame the Manchu for literally everything?
Because nationalism is not conducive to a sober analysis of events.
Also, Asians aren't people and they don't feel feelings the way humans do.
It's more of an insectoid hive impulse.

What's the Islamic interpretation of the attributes and characteristics of the Prophet (saw) and god?
What are the different theological schools of thought regarding this topic?
Can we please only have useful comments?
Thanks, guys

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but here's some stuff.

As for the attributes of God, just read the Qur'an. Or for a more succinct understanding, read al-Ikhlas.

I was wondering about the different schools of thought on how and what to interpret in order to understand the characteristics of the the Prophet (saw) and god
A very recent post on this board got me interested in Ibadism. Do you have any thoughts on it?

No problem, brother.
>I was wondering about the different schools of thought on how and what to interpret in order to understand the characteristics of the the Prophet (saw) and god
You mean like Ash'ari and Athari? It's a controversial topic that's always pointlessly debated. I don't know much about, so I can't recommend any resources, sorry.
>A very recent post on this board got me interested in Ibadism. Do you have any thoughts on it?
Stick to Ahl us-Sunnah, m8. Ibadism scorns Uthman and Ali, along with some other Sahabah.
If Germany won WW1 would the islands the Japanese captured from them be returned to them?
I find it unlikely Germany would go to war with Japan over it after having a truce with France or Britain.
I doubt japs would end trade with largest industrial power over islands
>japs allying themselves with the entente just to steal some islands from an overwhelmed and defenseless country
That is some bitch-tier opportunism tbqh

The German Empire was the most prepared of any great power at the time for the war.
They were also the biggest edgelords, being the first nation to violate the Hague Convention and use gas (forcing the entente powers to use gas in defence) and being the first nation to launch civilian bombing raids - flying Gotha Bombers over London and causing unheard of damage.
Also doing really underhand slithery shit like coercing the Ottomans into joining the war, giving Lenin safe passage to Russia and trying to even get Mexico and Afghanistan to join in on the death.
Nobody liked them.
It was like "Mate, what the fuck, what are you doing stop spazzing out."
And Germany's all like "NO FUCK OFF AAARGH I'M HAVING AN AUTISTIC FIT".
But it was ok because we forgave them until they did the exact same thing again in another war because they bitched so much about the Treaty of Versailles even though it wasn't even half as bad as the Treaty of Brest Litovsk they forced the Russians to sign.

Okay, so let's get a discussion of modern African history going, but this time let's actually follow the rules of the board (i.e., pic unrelated).
Any discussion or questions (it's okay if you don't know something! I'll be glad to help answer!) about Africa are welcome, but keep the dates between around 1880 and 1991, and let's try for now only to discuss Central and Southern Africa.
I've come up with a few topics to get us started:
Mozambique: why did the People's Republic of Mozambique last for such a short period? Why did the civil war last so long? Is there a difference in colonial style of the Portuguese versus the British that led to this situation? Can something be similar be said for the Congo?
Zimbabwe: Although the Rhodesian GDP saw a downturn following the UDI, between Zimbabwean independence in 1987 and 1989, Zimbabwe saw a sharp rise in GDP followed by a rapid decrease that led to one of the greatest humanitarian and economic crises of the early '90's (that continues to this day). What's responsible for this failure? More generally, how did Mugabe transform from a quixotic, kind revolutionary leader to a corrupt dictator under a democratically elected system?
Second wave colonialism in Kenya: to what extent were freedom fighters (such as the Kikuyu-ethnic Mau Mau movement) and to what extent was the lack of viability of second wave colonialism responsible for the collapse of the British administration in Kenya? Was second wave colonialism viable (including concepts like traditional law and indirect rule), and how does it compare to the other contemporary racially-motivated methods of administration in post-UDI Rhodesia and Apartheid South Africa?

How big was direct Soviet involvement in Africa? And I don't mean sending equipment or advisors, I mean boots on the ground soldier sort of things. I know that there were some in Angola but I would like to know more.
>>956182
Zimbabwe soldiers were trained with North Korea. Cuba sent military advisors somewhere as well
>>956182
I actually don't know, but that's a very good question. I imagine that there were some special forces operations, but I don't know the extent of their involvement. I'll try to look into it and get back to you.

Subjective means opinions, feelings, philosophy.
Objective means science, logic, math.
