It's time to have an old school christian thread, what's your opinion about the great emperor Justinian I?
>>1539915
He wasted far too much money on his Italian adventure. Let's not forget he married a roastie.

Why has the Catholic church made its Holy Cities primarily in Italy and made Latin it's church language?
It seems to have attached it's itself to the Latin people and former Roman empire and I can't see why other than outright politics and power play.
>>1539907
>I can't see why other than outright politics and power play.
You seem to be on the right track
>>1539907
>outright politics and power play.
Probably because Christianity was founded in the Roman empire.
Seems pretty obvious to me.

Also, we discuss the consequences about the First world war
If Willy didn't get rid of Bismarck would ww1 have been avoided?
>>1540328
Do you even have to ask?
>>1540496
Well Bismarck died in 1898, so it's possible the war could have just been put off a few more years if he was still in office until then.
I tried creating this thread on /x/, but as it is full of irrational larping cucks i was banned, flagged and post 404'ed

Are gods a human creation, independant of them or always have existed? Are they spooks or constants?
Do god(s), if existant, rely on human worship as a source of power?
Do you think is it possible for a group of people to pray/worship on unison for creating a god or is just mental sickness?
Is the death of a god possible? (inb4 the thousand gods of Hattusa)
Discuss, pls no bully and ban
Yes.

>Are gods a human creation, independant of them or always have existed?
As far as I'm concerned, they're a tool for self-contemplation. A very successful and useful tool. Their 'existence' isn't really that relevant, it's what they teach us that's important

But he wasn't. He never lost a single battle. He was 'defeated' by his troops wanting to go the fuck home.
Is The Decline of the West worth reading
Why dont you read it and find out
>>1539327
I would say yes. I thought it was, at the very least, a thought-provoking read.
>>1539327
why read it when you can experience it live
Why?
It seems like such an unlikely alliance considering the 1600 preceding years. Why?
>>1539271
Huh? How so? Austria-Hungary and Germany were natural allies due to rising Pan -isms. Ottoman Empire was routinely getting ass raped by Russia, Britain, and France; so they clung to Germany. The only surprising one is Bulgaria, but I guess they wanted to fuck the Serbs up after losing so much territory in the Second Balkan Wars.
Turks opposed the russians, bulgarians claimed parts of serbia, and austria always wanted the balkans
Only germany was being retarded
>>1539286
What were the German supposed to do? After the end of the "Great Game" in central Asia, Russia and Great Britain started to normalise their relationship, while France had always been anti-German. This leaves only Italy and Austria-Hungary as possible allies for Germany.
Had Wilhelm II not sakced Bismarck, the Germans might have been able to strike a deal with Great Britain, especially since they and France were involved in numerous colonial races. But that opportunity was thoroughly gone by 1914.
What is your opinion on the supposed Golden Age of Islam? Do you think it actually existed? If so, what timespan are we talking about, how did it come to be and what were its ramifications/characteristics? And most importantly, how did it all go wrong?
I basically want to know if there was a period in history where Muslim countries were more developed than Western European ones and what exactly happened that turned the tables in Christian Europe's favor.
>>1539257
How about you at least read the Wikipedia article first, then we can discuss that.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Golden_Age
What do you mean, did it exist? Are you retarded? Look it up moron.
>>1539263
>>1539291
Many people state that the Muslims merely discovered older teachings and writings by peoples like the Persians and passed them off as their own. Also, you didn't address my other question regarding the fall of the Golden Age and the factors contributing to the overall deterioriation of development and quality of life in the Middle East
Especially Iraq. How did that country end up in its current state? "Mongols" can't be the only reason, more than enough countries have recovered from their capital being sacked. Iraq took one hell of a nosedive however.
Also, when exactly did Islam become more radical? The Golden Age seems to have been conducive to societal, cultural and scientific progress, I'm also aware of how tolerant the Ottomans were towards other religions, especially Jews.
When did it become so reactionary?

Why were matchsticks invented if lighters predated it?
>>1539169
Matchsticks were/are cheaper and disposable.
.
the flint striker of a flintlock musket was hefty and unreliable, other mechanisms were expensive and complicated and needed something to produce the hydrogen gas
before compressed gas and ferrocerium, the match coating ignited by a small amount of friction was cheaper
did french algeria have potential?
I see french buildings in algeria, it looks pretty cool. and I saw a frog on /int/ say "algiers could have been real french"
No, France had low population growth and thus not enough surplus population to properly settle the land. So the French settlers were doomed to stay a small minority.
It would have been interesting if the UK or Germany with its massive population growth got hold of Algeria by some twist of events, perhaps they'd have been able to Europeanize the coastal area.
>>1539162
oh, so the focus was to kind off delet the natives and replace with more french? I thought it was more converting the algiers to french culture. Or is having a significant french population part of that strategy
t. history scrub
>>1539176
>oh, so the focus was to kind off delet the natives and replace with more french?
Nope, but it would have been the most effective method. Turning the natives into French is far more difficult as they would always cling to their ancient traditions, and eventually it failed.
Is India one of the greatest civilizations of Humanity?
