Spic here, I think its because most hispanic countries are majoritarily composed of mestizos that people think we are a distinct race. Of course it varies depending on the country, in Chile (my country) mestizos represent more than a 90% of the population, in Bolivia you have a big percentage of natives, then you have Argentina where natives and mestizos are like a 3% or so the rest being white europeans, in the caribbean countries you have a lot of blacks, etc. "Hispanic" is not our race, is our culture.

Sailor here. At night you keep the bridge dark, but there will be a light at the chart table and a curtain surrounding it. Some do cover one when checking the chart to retain night vision but its pretty rare. Once you eyes have adjusted to the dark, a minute or so in the light doesnt equal the 20 minutes it can initially take to get your night vision on. No idea about actual pirates and patches though

They didn't integrate because we made them have their own separate culture and major identity. Asians and Hispanics all act the same as whites after a generation or two, but blacks got to be special snowfalkes when it came to culture so they didn't integrate.
