I disagree entirely. War fought over political struggle and conquest is morbid because it's so useless. Boundaries of nations don't mean shit. I see myself as a member of Western civilization and not a citizen of some odd state that isn't going to exist in 400 years.

Personally I think it's a bad thing. People will defend it by saying that it helps "uplift" less developed peoples, but extensive trade and mere exposure can achieve the same result and without the deaths of thousands, and anyone being subjugated against their will, and with much less risk of negatively affecting other areas and people. Granted the trade off is that it happens over a longer period of time, but I'd say that's a pretty easy sacrifice to make.

That being said, it's stupid to judge imperialists of the past with my highly contemporary morals.
