Ok, so you guys told me they had long spears and that's why they conquered so much shit.
But why didn't the persians just use even longer spears?

That would require them to be familiar and comfortable with the phalanx formation, which would require whole new training and drilling (Egypt hired some Greek mercenaries to train a contiginent of their troops in phalanx format, and they were there for roughly 12 months) and proper auxiliary forces to accompany them, which also requires expertise to how to position them with the phalanx in certain situations.

Also, Zoroastrianism preaches a caste society like Hinduism, with a dedicated minority warrior class. In the Achaemenid region of Persia, they probably adhered to that and most of said class comprised of Calvary that they emphasized on and properly maintained, and just used regular levied local yeomen for most of their Persian foot infantry units, who by Greek accounts (although potentially bias in this regard, do consider that the overwhelming amount of writers on them praised their cavalry skilled and arms) were nothing special.

Persians dominated Asia likely due in thanks to their calavry skills, mobility (which having a predominant light and missile infantry force will do), sieging skills, and diplomacy. It happened that Alexander had those to, but with newly developed and highly innovated siege engines and artillery, a better central infantry force and happened to catch the Persians off-guard and got lucky by having most of their western Asian and Egyptian subjects peacefully submitting to him.

The Macedonians had long spears.

That meme in the op is not Macedonia.
>>
>>2363724
How is the force the persians assembled at gaugamela in any way "catching them off guard" ? Even the most conservative estimate of persian troop numbers that day would have Alexanders army outnumbered at least 2:1.

Can someone tell me a big list of which human fears are instinctive and which common fears are environmental?

South Sudan was a mistake
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Is that what they're calling Argentina nowadays?
>>
Not really. The globalists love failed states like South Sudan and Haiti because those states are completely dependent on services provided by NGOs, they are "NGOistans" in the sense that they are ruled by Western social workers.

This creates a lot of jobs for Westerners, so it's kind of good for them. That's why George Soros fund NGOs that destabilize countries like Brazil, why the CFR helps FARC in Colombia etc.

>supply side economics
>demand side economics

Are people really this dumb? You can't have supply unless you have demand, and you can't have demand unless you have supply. The only solution is an equal balance of both systems.

Supply side economics says that the government should engage in policies favorable to businesses.

Demand side economics says that the government should engage in policies favorable to consumers.

The best form of economics is one that realizes the effective demand is always below full employment, when the quantity theory of money would be true.

Is Vatican II valid?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.

Yes, it's just sometimes misinterpreted.

Anyone claiming it's not valid is a dumb sedevacantist, and as such is a heretic.
>>
>>2362808
It's a valid, pastoral council. No pronouncements of the Magisterium were made.
>>
>>2364709
>Yes, it's just sometimes misinterpreted.

Sometimes can be an understatement depending on where you live. I think the problem lies more with the cultural shit that was going on in the 60s than with Vatican II. The important thing is to actually read the "controversial" documents instead of getting information from a batshit sedevacantist site.

How far back does it go?
Has mass media intensified or alleviated the syndrome?

How can we know anything about history?

But that's bullshit. Times and times again people have neglected what professors have said. Just look on people not panicking over global warming.

Let's not derail the thread into debates of current events. My point is that the average person harbors secret heresies that he keeps close to his chest merely out of self-interest if not -preservation, while the more thoroughly orthodox an individual is the more eager they are to take a soapbox and not have it pulled out from under him.

Why are the English colonies in the Americas much more successful than the Spanish and Portuguese? Was it purely because the Anglos refused to intermix with the natives?

One of them started as a democracy and the other two spent a century of civil war to reform their monarchical system, which proves it was purely because Anglos refused to intermix with the natives.
>>
Land ownership was far more concentrated in Latin America than in English colonies. This made majority of Spanish subjects poor, servile shits who hated their rulers while everyman's greed drove English to new heights.

>Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

>O sultan, Turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are thou, that canst not slay a hedgehog with your naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. Thou shallt not, thou son of a whore, make subjects of Christian sons; we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.

>Thou Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw thine own mother!

>So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won't even be herding pigs for the Christians. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!

The Daodejing clearly references "the great Tao masters of antiquity", implying Taoist sages have existed possibly long before Laozi's time.

My question is whether or not there are written records of this early Taoism and if it's possible that other related schools of Chinese philosophy such as FengShui, the School of YinYang, and Heaven Worship all stem from some form of proto-Daoism.

yingyang and feng shui are certainly connected to daoism ether through origination or absorption.

Most likey the origins of daoism lay in an amalgam of Chinese philosophical and spiritual practices

If there were no nukes, who would've win the cold war in direct combat?

Gommies likely, they were prepared for an all out offensive while the west had "just enough" forces for defense without any plans for offensive or even counteroffensive.

But depends on period of course.
>>
Tough to say. America had better industrial base, more resources, and more allies. But USSR had better leadership, more efficient doctrine, etc.

I give initial advantage to USSR, but if the war drags on the USA will eventually win.
>>
>>2358532

Without nukes? I'd have to side with Russia simply because they're so much closer Europe which makes it so much easier to launch attacks and resupply tropes. Not to mention they always had a bazillion tanks.

But of course, this all hinges on the Soviets being able to make a fast break through West Germany into France.
