This shit is common in Medieval cultures. Spectral figures, fantastic beasts, fairy folk, they all seem to have a real, tangible presence in the world.

Turks are where they are from/ their ethic background just as Saxons are from saxon, irish from Ireland and So on.

The rest I know not much on. They were very significant in the times of the crusades as well as what some call the middle civilizations between asia and europe. Once trade was established Europe and Asia would never be the same. You could give them credit for the exploration to the New world and birth of exploration and colonialism.

Not OP but I definitely often have regrets of doing things when I should've just let it slide by.

Inaction is probably the best thing you could ever do in your own life, unless you are for certain that doing an action would get you into a better place.

But you have to be 100% certain, and know everything about the action before doing it. Alot of humans, including me, have failed to act in such a manner, and it has cost me precious things which I would've liked to have back.
