Bait or not, like you said, rooting is usually the process of exploiting an inherent security flaw already present on your device, not creating a new one. After said flaw is taken advantage of, someone smart one put a SuperSU program on the phone. A program that alerts you when something is requesting root access.

Now look at the flip side. Say you don't root and someone manages to take advantage of that very same flaw. You wouldn't even know until they steal your shit or brick your device.

Lastly I didn't root just because. I rooted because it allowed me to uninstall bloat ware, use greenify to sleep apps for more battery life, and install a custom recovery to make full phone ISO backups for ease of use. At least on my Note 3 I did this because Samsung loves loading their phones up with garbage.

My moto X pure on the other hand needs none of this and I prefer stock everything so I don't accidentally fuck up my phone because of full internal/external encryption not playing nice with non stock recovery.

Does Mint still have that shitty release upgrade policy where they disabled Ubuntu's in-place upgrade system completely because they were too incompetent to make it not break everything if you did a dist-upgrade to a new release?

Mint hasn't had a justification in a while. It's fucking Ubuntu except slightly further removed, so getting support is a bit harder and shit that expects Ubuntu can break. Xubuntu exists, Ubuntu Mate exists, both of which are pretty much mainline Ubuntu with a different DE and shit just works.

I think the ideal is like you said completely wireless is right.

I would encrypt the archive drive, and take the Temp drive, encrypt that, and use it as a backup for the archive drive.

Using RAID as a backup method with your configuration is pure stupidity. Just keep a separate backup of your most sensitive data.
