Redpill me on Solus. Why would I use it instead of Arch? It doesn't even provide a minimal installation, no, you have to choose their own bloated DE or MATE.
Both are toys that use Systemd[ick] kill yourself OP
>>57511208
nice shilling. Solus is shit, nobody is using it, except two or three faggots that can't stop making threads.

yep and what you won't remember on purpose is how an entry level workstation cost $5K. I wonder what group of people brought this cost down.
>>57511310
>what you won't remember on purpose is how an entry level workstation cost $5K
I can't remember that because it wasn't true. At least not in the last 26 years it wasn't. I can't speak for the 80s but in 1990 it was far less than $5k to have an "entry level" workstation computer. $1500 would a more reasonable amount, and far less was possible if you knew the right places to look, and had the right hook-ups in industry.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Hello /g/.
So, in case you haven't heard... the Winter ball is coming, and a few boards are looking your way...
So to be considerate... rather then having someone pressure you, I figured that you guys could appreciate being able to discuss who you'd want to take (or be taken by).
And if you can't think of anybody...
/mlp/ is currently available...
>>57507098
What's the winter ball
>>57507103
It's a yearly event where often, board tans or personifications of an entire board, get to interact, and it often spurs a great deal of content.
Depending on the pair match-ups, the content that might follow can be all sorts of things.
It's also a great way for boards to mesh and interact, so it's a bit of a social event as much as it's a prompt for content!

The same things that people on Windows do.
Watch videos, code, play games occasionally, shitpost on here.
Basically whatever the fuck I want because it's a computer and I have that freedom.
break things
record music, fork free software, easily build and develop and don't worry about trying to get some emulator like cygwin to work right
I have a keyboard that works perfectly well. Yet I wish to buy another. I know the enjoyment I will get out of that other keyboard will be fleeting.
I also do not even have very much money. I should save it and enjoy the peace of mind that comes from having money in the bank should an emergency arise.
But still, I am drawn to buy more...
also the pic is a metaphor for consumerism pls no lock

One less bought keyboard - one less gained profit for Chinese.
Does this thought make you comfortable?
>>57504851
I actually don't mind buying off of Chinese ebay vendors. That's just some guy in his workshop taking apart busted laptops he got off a pallet. Rather buy from him than Amazon.
Recommend me a Linux distro. Since Linux is a functional operating system by itself, I don't want any GNU bloat to come bundled with it.

>>57502671
4000mah is pretty much the standard on chink phones these days.
Find a flaw.
Pro tip: you can't.
On a Lenovo laptop?
The screen pretty much always.
Even if the screen isn't just genuinely shit Lenovo have the worst LED backlighting and the PWM is often at like 200hz which is WAY too low and manually upping this comes with its own issues.
Fucking chinkshit idiots

This was my actual setup 4 years ago when I was in high school still
I made it entirely out of dumpster parts. Except the keyboard and mouse, which I bought for 1$ ea
>>57494648
desu I never had a problem with shit stations. I like the creativity that goes into putting together a workspace with budget or free parts.
What I can't stand is the accumulated garbage, useless shit, etc. that always seems to go along with them. I used a Cedar Mill Celeron pre-built all the way up to 2014 but my desk was always organized and I ate in the kitchen where food belongs.
That said, nice shit station.

It was something like a Pentium 4 EE and an 8800gts in there, someone's old gaming rig built on top of a crappy compaq presario
Worked pretty good for shitposting and browsing funny junk
Even played a bit of Arma II
desu i like the smaller screens, I find pixels pretty comfy - larger screens also make me look like i've been awake for weeks
