whats the best brand of tv?

i sometimes see people saying that some manufacturers use bad displays or things like that.

if i were to get a 50" 4k UHD vizio (which is a cheap brand from what i hear) and compare it to a 50" 4k UHD sony, samsung, lg, or whatever, would there really be a big difference in the display?

Once Sony throws their OLED tech into the consumer market it'll be the best. Right now their panels aren't the greatest but not bad either. Still their other features tend to make up for the absolute shit that is Korean TVs/monitors.

I used to be excited about what the future would bring.

Now I just imagine how each new thing is going to be a security and privacy nightmare, or a pointless vaporware project raved about by nutcases, like everything Elon Musk does.

You can try that on your own, probably it won't have drivers for your hardware. Also, it's not stable. Do you want to join to beta-testers?

It might not have what you need as an OS, or support your hardware.
>>
>>57520729
disadvantages;
- less software
- less drivers
- not very stable

advantages;
- looks and feels like BeOS
- very fast

if it's got drivers for your machine and has the software you need, then give it a try, i would at least dual boot it with something else as well, though

Is there much benifit in water cooling a 1080? vs the non FE cards?

Getting some mixed info on what stable 24/7 clocks people are getting.
8 posts and 2 images submitted.

Numbers for 1070/1080 are all over the place. Half the review sites claim 1070s cap at like 2050 core clock stable, while I dont know of a single person who was unable to stably run at least 2100, mine even runs on ~2150. Not sure about liquid cooling on them though since the voltage is still capped so you dont really have that much room to go beyond what you can achieve with air. But I guess it would cool better, since the 1080s easily hit 80 degrees.

MSI 1080 EK GTX 1080 owner here.
the block doesnt increase the potential overclock because the Voltage is locked on Pascal.
the smaller chip doesnt like higher voltage.
i hit a wall at 2,120mhz

BUT you will see the MAX potential Boost clock almost 100% of the time.
my 1080 runs 1,987Mhz 99% of the time hovers around 34-37C and that's 100% stock settings.
(will go 2,012mhz when under 30C)

Another thing to look at is the temps.
the VRMS,Core,Vram, and pcb are all 1/3 the temp of an air cooled cards.
it will last WAY longer

EXAMPLE:
MANY HD5970s fried with air cooling, but the watercolor ones were fine 4+ years later

That's actually the exact card I was looking at. You running a single radiator? I was planning on a loop like that also instead of the double radiator. With a 6700k.

The 1080 Ti is looking to be a fail pit for the $900 price people are talking about. Figure the thing to do is get a 1080 and oc.

I don't really know where else to post my story and ask for some advice, so I'm hoping someone can help me out:

I have dealt with medical issues since I was 19, I was in a wheel chair for a couple years. I am now 27 and have recovered from that almost 100%. I still have some physical limitations though, such as not being able to be on my feet for long periods. I completed two years of college during that time and graduated with my associates in network administration (I still feel like this was a huge waste of time). So I am looking at learning Python as a career option.

I have been studying Python for the last couple months and feel I have a basic understanding. I'm here to ask for any kind of advice on the direction I should take for future learning. Should I keep focusing on python or switch to something more marketable? I'm mostly just hoping to find something that can possibly land me some kind of work in the next year.

I appreciate any advice, thanks bros.

The degree might be useless, but knowing about networking is actually really useful. If you can get to a point where you can route anything anywhere you want, you'll be a veritable goldmine for companies.
Python isn't as much of a "beginners" language as people think. Google uses the shit out of it (seriously, Gmail runs off it).
It might not be as prevalent as Java, perhaps, but it's still useful. (Plus you can script the shit out of working.)
Best languages to learn would probably be Java, C# (if you're going into Windows dev work), or something that is used quite commonly in the industry. (Best thing to do in your position is to Google the most used languages in the industry and base your learning off of it.)
Also, don't limit yourself to just programming (unless you absolutely love it. Then pick a language and become a guru).
There's still security that you can look into (metasploit, nmap, breaking into computers halfway around the world), networking (firewalls, packet routing, packet manipulation, etc), machine learning (but that one will probably require you to know a language pretty well), databases (administrating, designing, etc.)
Look around. There's a lot of things you can try picking up in your free time. (That will make yourself even more marketable in the long run.)

KDE vs GNOME?
Honestly I believe Cinnamon, MATE, and XFCE are better. However they are downstream and will be significantly delayed in Wayland support. Cinnamon will likely support it first, but it will be super delayed anyways because Clement Lefebvre will take forever. MATE and XFCE need to have stable gtk3 ports.
So KDE and GNOME are the main two since they are closer to upstream
GNOME
Pros:
>stable
>looks nice
>stable Wayland releases already
>industry standard
>less bloated than KDE (still pretty bloated though)
Cons:
>upstream forces systemd unless you patch it
>GTK+
Neutral:
>Red Hat
KDE:
Pros:
>Qt
>looks nice
>upstream doesn't care if you use systemd
Cons:
>Less stable
>upstream prefers phonon VLC, doesn't force you to use it though, can easily drop in gstreamer instead
>bloated
Neutral:
>Decent Wayland support, not really stable though yet

>inb4 Budgie/Deepin
>inb4 use a WM
Pls no meme

Honestly I'm willing to admit that GNOME and KDE are both not the greatest DE's in the market. But being higher upstream is a significant advantage, and I'm not sure between these two.

Currently on Arch so that means systemd is unavoidable. I am considering Gentoo or Source Mage though. Also for BSD I imagine KDE would undeniably be the only way to go because no systemd.
It's fine to use the patches for GNOME I guess, but I'm uneasy about it, as it is moving away from what upstream prefers and isn't supported by developers as much as pure upstream.
