Why is the font rendering so SHIT on windows?
Same font (fira mono) and software (atom) in both pics.
Nevermind the color and font size (it scales horribly on windows anyway).

Because the font rendering on Windows is garbage and nothing can change that.

By the by, Fira mono looks like shit on Ubuntu because it's weirdly tall. The line spacing is mental. For some reason it isn't on Windows and Mac. Maybe I'm missing something.
Recommend an ereader, /g/. Doesn't have to browse web or play vids. If it's more than $120, I might as well get a Lenovo Tab 2.

What distro would you guys recommend installing on my Acer Chromebook 15. It only has 2 gb ram so its pretty worthless. Im looking for a lightweight yet good looking one, so I at least have a smooth experience. Im currently using gallium os but the support is shit and its pretty slow desu.
Any tips are welcome!

Lubuntu if you want a lightweight DE. Or any recent distro (Fedora, Manjaro) with i3/awesome

Friendly reminder to be civil. I am currently installing a fresh Arch Linux to meet some needs that just came up in my home lab.

They can do what they, and every other government, has been doing anyway.
Nothing, really. It's just legalising what they were already doing.
If anything it might make things better in the long run, since legal spying is more transparent and easier to keep an eye on than illegal spying.

Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.
Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Should i keep my FX 8320 and buy a new mobo to overclock it or should i get skylake or something?
I also have a Radeon HD 7870 2gb and want to upgrade to an rx 480 8gb or should i wait for vega?
Finished my build, yesterday.
A few questions:
>Is there any way to have speccy recognize the "Unknown"?
>Is it wise to OC my CPU if XMP is enabled?
I heard having XMP enabled strains the CPU and OCing will just add to it.
Thanks a bunch. And thanks to /pcbg/ for helping me out with my build, even though I didn't budge on a few components.

Hello
I recently upgraded my pc with a better GPU because my games were running like shit, but now they run like shit and in some isolated instances even worse.
I've been told online that it's my CPU that's incapable of keeping up, which makes sense as I had to fall back on some low-budget parts because I couldn't boot my pc earlier this year and my performance problems had started at that point.
Now I can't afford a new cpu at the moment because I have no spare money, my dad suggested I look into possible bugs in the individual parts not communicating properly but I don't know where to start looking.
My setup is:
>Asus A88x-Plus Main
>AMD A6-6400k CPU
>4x Corsair XMS3 8 GB ram
>Palit GTX1060 GPU
>Samsung SSD 850 Pro
Can you help me or will it be the good old throwing money at it until it goes away?
>>57632208
Unfortunately, all you can do at this point is turn off or down CPU heavy graphics settings, like shadows, lighting or physics.
Your CPU is definitely the weak point. OCing it might help a little, but that's probably out of your league.
Your dad's suggestion is really out of date, that might have happened in 90's systems, but is unlikely to be the cause for anything nowadays.

works for me
I want to publish all my projects (mostly small utility software) on github (yes I know) under my real name.
Should I go with GPL, MIT or BSD?
I mean, I'd want other people to work on/fork it if they want, but rather not have other people make money off my work. On the other hand I don't wanna seem like a st4llman basement dweller.
What should I do?
The GPL specifically allows others to make money with your program, they just have to give all users the freedom you gave them.
MIT and BSD are great if you get funded by some enterprise that will use your work in proprietary form.
You don't, so only GPL resides as non-stupid choice.
you can release it under multiple ones, a dual license. you won't seem like a basement dweller with the gpl considering that 90% of networking hardware you buy nowadays comes with a gpl insert. gpl has won, like it or not, and the rest is mainly vocal contrarian dropouts angry with everyone because they are angry with themselves because they couldn't let the contrarian shit go and their career never even started.

Too lazy to find a picture, but the button on the iBook trackpad. Its nearly as big as the trackpad and special snowflake as fuck because no right click. The keyboard is shit because besides a command key it doesnt have any other meta keys over on the right side. Also it has 2 enter keys and home/end/pgup/pgdwn are on a fn layer, which would be ok if you didnt need 2 hands to operate it.

Hey lads,
I'm a graphic designer/illustrator and until now, I have been working exclusively on Windows systems with absolutely no problem at all.
Now, I've been hired by a new company and this is just great, except my boss is the biggest Mac fanboy I've ever seen, and he's deciden of his own initiative to fit my office with an iMac.
He kept going on about
>how faster
>simply better
>muh shortcuts
>you'll never go back to PC ever again
it is gonna be. How much of this is actually true? I do know Macs were a step above PC when it comes to graphic design quite some years ago, but I'm not sure this is no longer the case.
How fucked am I?
Not at all. Your programs are exactly the same. You can drop files on the app icon on the dock and it will open. LIKE MAGIC. Finder is nicer than Explorer, when it doesn't shit the bed on a network drive.
It's fine. Use the tools you're given. Or just install Windows on it. Get back to work.
>>57631864
A job is a job. You will be fine. There should be no problem using a mac, because the os was designed to be used by unskilled people.
in general os x is a nicer OS for graphic design. actually, in general too. 4 years ago when i started work, i only used windows, and was surprised by how nice it was. it, as they say, just werks.
you could either learn the mac keyboard and all the shortcuts again, or use a windows keyboard and map the windows key to cmd.
as far as never going back, well...the only reason i still use my win7 desktop is for games/general browsing. i use my mbp for work/side projects and all that.
