How come when I plug my headphones into my Windows work computer I can enjoy music at 20% volume but with the same headphones on my Linux laptop at that volume I can't tell an oboe from a fagotto?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Why is PHP so hated? I give that it has stupid things like failing to convert ISO dates or let's you fail for the ==/=== trap but these things are mistakes that are easy to make and not PHP's fault. And the Pajeets that write SQL injections are also not PHP's fault.

It's a pretty comfy language even without any framework. You can create your classes and functions and just make the static pages execute them. So you don't have a mess between HTML and PHP. Python and Ruby are also good for web stuff but PHP 7 is pretty comfy. I rather use that as meme.js on the server side. And websites that don't work without JS are fucking garbage.

because it's clearly written by morons
>all the inconsistencies
>all the redundant functions
e.g. there's random functions and mt_random (mersenne twister) functions which, according to the official PHP documentation, are 'better'
>>
>>59444379
Yeah that's fucking retarded. They need to clean up the language (standardized naming scheme) and remove the useless functions.

Also Pajeets think that real_escape_string will protect them from everything (there's a escape_string that's buggy and instead if fixing it they created a real_escape_string...).

let's try one more time.I'm trying to understand the copy function in C (or maybe it's a particular copy function just for bmp images). There's this bit right here, and I understand what it does, but I don't understand how. Basically, how are these nested loops iterating through everything? the i and j are not used after they are declared, I don't get it. Shouldn't there be something like triple[i][j] somewhere in there?

Btw, RGBTRIPLE is just a typedef struct

// iterate over infile's scanlines
for (int i = 0, biHeight = abs(bi.biHeight); i < biHeight; i++)
{
// iterate over pixels in scanline
for (int j = 0; j < bi.biWidth; j++)
{
// temporary storage
RGBTRIPLE triple;

// read RGB triple from infile
fread(&triple, sizeof(RGBTRIPLE), 1, inptr);

// write RGB triple to outfile
fwrite(&triple, sizeof(RGBTRIPLE), 1, outptr);
}

Nope.

You will spend twice the time vacuuming with half the power resulting in a net energy saving of zero.

I don't remember what PC my dad bought in the 90's, but it came with MS-DOS, and eventually upgraded it to 95 and later 98.
It was crazy mesmerizing for me, probably why I knew more about computers then all my friends.
I learned DOS first.

Hi /g/ how can I sabotage my office mate who does nothing all day. All he does is blasting his pop songs, drumming on his desk, browsing all day long and singing. But when he works it's a different project. I already complain in the HR but they gave the guy 2nd chance. He's close with the other office workers that end up them ganging up on me. I tried doing MTM on his pc but it doesn't do any harm.

I can't resign yet because the project I'm working on is one of my dream to add in my expertise.

How are intels non K cpus core locked? Is it a physical thing in the die or is there like a little microcode or something that prevents overclocking?

>>
>>59443789
I think it's hard-coded into the CPU itself. You can manipulate microcodes and other settings to get a Xeon to run at full turbo speed all the time (think 2699 with 10 of it's cores at 3.6Ghz), and you can also push the BCLK by 5% if you're lucky, but that's it.

The Xeons SKUs that are physically similar to the desktop variants overclock just fine, and possibly even better because of solder/binning; ror instance the 5960X vs the E5 1660 v3, and the even better binned 1680 v3 variant.
