The last Mars thread was pretty good.

We need to continue the last thread. Can Mars survive on just solar or do they need nuclear power? Keep in mind Musk wants to get to 100 people quickly and solar is only like 2/3 as effective on Mars.

You could manage with solar, but you'd want nuclear if it were available, that excess heat would have plenty of uses

Linux on the desktop will still have a single digit market share in 2020.

The majority of Linux distros will still not have a file picker with working thumbnails in 2020.

Lincucks will still keep telling you to keep a file explorer window open in 2020.

When will they release superior CLOSEDSUSE?
>>
>>59451649
I tried, I really tried.

It was either Fedora or OpenSuse, because I wanted to use something I might encounter on the job.

OpenSuse install was unbearably slow and didn't finish successfully, so back to Fedora I went. It's a pity, because I really like the idea of Tumbleweed (automatically tested with OpenQA! Take that, Arch!)

Give me a straight forward answer to when I should use try and catch?

Should I wrap every SQL query in try and catch? Or should I only use try and catch where I can do something?
Ex: server timed out, try reconnecting

Isn't the pic self explanatory? You put try catch blocks where an exception may be thrown and you want to handle it differently than the default way (usually stopping operation).

>should I wrap every SQL query in try and catch?
You should probably use some sort of handling object/API for queries. Said object/API should have a try catch block.

math major pretending to be a programmer here. I wanted to use a math library eigen (http://eigen.tuxfamily.org/index.php?title=Main_Page) and I'm running into some problems (with #include <Eigen/Dense>). Hoping I can solve this without going to the stack and getting downvotes

Most files don't have to be built, I think and should just work straight from download

I followed these pages:

http://eigen.tuxfamily.org/dox/GettingStarted.html

https://github.com/Microsoft/AirSim/blob/master/docs/install_eigen.md

http://askubuntu.com/questions/491067/eigen-installation-seemed-to-work-but-i-still-cant-make-eigen-work

and still getting the g++ error: Eigen/Dense No such file or directory. For the time being, I'm using a windows vista. I created test.cpp which is exactly the same as the getting started example. I created the environment variable EIGEN_ROOT pointing to: C:\Users\zachary\Desktop\eigen. Inside this folder is eigen3 where all the files are

I used the command:

C:\Users\zachary\Desktop\eigen>g++ -I/eigen3/ test.cpp -o test.exe

test.cpp:2:23: fatal error: Eigen/Dense: No such file or directory
#include <Eigen/Dense>
^
compilation terminated.

Bet there's something really simple I'm missing right?

>g++ -I/eigen3/test.cpp -o test.exe

I think it should be

g++ -I <folder to search for header files> -o test.exe <path to test.cpp>

YES, it worked! Thank you! been scratching my head for an hour :)

odd how there's no compiler output.. don't care it worked

Hello /g/,
I've always had a problem with headsets, earphones etc. Etc.

Over the course of a month or two i'd just lose the bass or sound from either left or right ear.
Obviously it's a jack problem.
While with cheaper ones i didin't see that as much of a problem since i pay for what i get, but i finally got around to some Sennhaisers and Sony's but same happend to both.

How can i prevent/fix this?

>>
>>59450733
it's not a jack problem. it's the wire/cord problem. you see, cheap chink shit IEMs/earbuds use wires that are very thin and don't have much copper in them.

solution is to buy good shit and NOT TO TUG OR STRETCH the cord!
>>
>>59450778
Didin't you read the Sennheiser part? I don't want to spend 80 bucks every month just because.

Can i fix this somehow?

Do you still use a swap partition?

If so, how big? And why?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>59450669
Yes. A handful of gigs. It's there because my distro's installer put it there and I was too lazy to fight it.

Also my only experience with swapless running was a bad one. A few years ago I put together an old C2Q system and ran a terraria server on it, and I didn't give it a swap partition. Then I wondered why my server crashed at random times. when I looked into it it was using more memory than I though it did and running into the OOM killer.

I solved that buy buying $20 of DDR2 from ebay, but it made me more willing to just let there be a swap partition just in case.
>>
Yes on my laptop. 5GiB (same as my RAM amount) for hibernation.
>>
My swap partition is equal to the amount of RAM.
