Hola /g/
I'm looking to buy a new laptop, but I'd like to purchase the correct thing this time around. I don't have a terrible amount of knowledge on hardware.
I'm a front end web developer, and I've been doing dev off a thinkpad running ubuntu.
Any suggestions of what I should upgrade to?
New thinkpad
a desktop

That's a nice organ, OP. Where is it?

Somewhere in Switzerland. Pays de Vaud if my eyes are not deceiving me.
Nightly reminder to install FreeBSD.
Running Gnome 3 atm
i had a network issue while installing. tried trueOS after the botched bsd install and what a pile of fuck that was. so i did a net install of debian with mate and it is straight ass so it needs to go.
>using OS licensed under a cuck license
I made the switch after using Debian as my go-to Linux distribution for years. I just jumped right into it and installed FreeBSD a few hours ago. Not sure what direction to head off towards but I hope I'll enjoy the experience.
Installed on Thinkpad X220.
AMD, except that one time when they made a good 64 bit chip, has been the cheap knock-off choice for teenagers first gaming PC and people on SNAP.
>>59442328
What's it like being this insecure in your spending habits?
AMD is good.
Are you telling me you don't want to do what Homer wants to do .
I want to do what Homer wants to do .
I have a AMD Radeon graphics card which may be not supported by Ubuntu 16.04.
What should I do? Will upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10 or downgrading to 14.04 solve the issue? If yes, will it work as good as the graphics card works on Windows? Also will have to configure my computer or will the system work perfectly after upgrading or downgrading?
Am I damaging my computer by not using a OS supporting the graphics card?
Also my laptop takes like ~50 seconds to boot? Is that because of the incompatible graphics card?
Also I consider Win10 to be badly coded bloated shit.

is it possible to install OSX on a computer that isn't a mac, without an already existing mac?
is there any point? i ask only out of curiousity because i feel like it's odd to try and use only windows and linux without much experience on osx other than what i've touched in retail outlets.
>>59442305
Yes it is possible.
Yes there is a point.
>>59442384
how? everywhere i go ppl say you need a mac in order to get the necessary "credentials". otherwise you're out of luck and will get a bunch of errors.

/g/ my hard drive died in my laptop last night so I replaced it today and did a clean install of windows using some recovery media.
Problem is, the drivers didn't auto install(or at least the network driver) so I used my desktop to download all the network drivers for my laptop and installed them but to no avail...I still have no ability to search for any wireless networks or anything.
I've obviously tried extensive amounts of googling but had to come here after exhausting resources
Wat do /g/?
(Other than install gentoo)
you didnt download the right drivers then
go back to the manufacturer's webpage
i dont understand why you think we're going to have some magic answer for you
>>59442131
Use an adaped Gentoo like Sysrescd or Sabayon to inspect your hardware and download appropriate drivers to windows.
Or use a wlan usb stick ob windows.
Did you try the Fn + whatever F key the wireless one is ?
How the hell do you download from mega on phones? this is infuriating why the hell does mega have to be so shit?
>Firefox and browsers based on it give an unsafe SSL negotiation error (Firefox just says unable to connect)
>Chrome doesn't download the file or save it to your phone it just lets you open the file
>Dolphin doesn't save it either
>Lightning seems to work but the file never gets to download
>puffin just gives out an error saying "download unsuccessful"
>the only app to download from mega is bugged and doesn't download shit
I tried out more browsers and still nothing
>uc browser gets stuck loading the folder list
>opera does the same crap as Google chrome
>yandex browser seems to be the only one who could download it but cant find the file/it never actually downloaded it
Any help? my PC broke so I cant download it there

Not spending our money on garbage memes
Friday afternoon, I am taking delivery of all the components I need to build a new pc. I read some posts in other forums where people mentioned that components weren't performing as expected because it was in the wrong slot or whatever reason. Once I get this pc built, I'd like to make sure that the components are running at peak efficiency.
What are some things I should do on day 1 of a new build? Stress test it? Benchmark it? If so, what programs do you recommend? I remember using a program many, many years ago called SiSoft Sandra that gave me an enormous amount of detailed info about my pc. Is that still a solid program? I built a new pc. Now what?
>>59441856
Excellent choice in cases, anon.
As far as testing, go ahead and benchmark it if you want, but basically you just want to use it and see if there are any issues. Monitor your temp and CPU/RAM/HDD/SDD usage periodically for the first few weeks. If everything looks good, you're good to go.
>>59441897
Nice! Hey, is that yours? If so, I have a question for you. Do you have HDDs in the cage below your two fans? If so, do they ever run hot? I am concerned about the hard drive cage getting no air flow. I plan to remove that plate below your two fans in the front so that I can add a third fan down below and along-side the hard drives. I know the HDD cage slides towards the PSU. I know I can fit a 120mm fan in that space. I am going to use the fan that came with the case as the fan for the HDD cage, and I'm going with two Noctua NF-F12's where you have your two front fans.

>>59441957
It is mine, but I don't have any HDDs in there. I have a separate home server with 8TB of storage that I use for actual file storage. On this pc, everything's on SSDs on the detachable mount behind the m/b.
In general though I wouldn't worry *too* much about HDDs getting too hot, but certainly adding another fan would help them. I imagine just removing the shroud without adding an additional fan would get the job done too though.
I told ffmpeg to convert an h264 video to vp9. Everything seemed normal at first, but then this started happening. Is this normal?
>linux
Well there's your problem. Stop trying to use linux outside of getting internet points in desktop threads. There's a reason it has like 0.2% market share.
>>59441946
You retarded cuck FFMPEG is an industry standard. Go look in the "Open source licenses" section of any phone or windows app that uses video. THEY USE FFMPEG YOU DUMB BEANER.

I recently installed Ubuntu to get my feet wet with Linux.
I have no sound. Sound only plays from the headphones I have, and not the monitor itself through HDMI.
I have my monitor connected to an RX480
Any suggestions?
I've already tried killing myself
>>59441819
Really? So you didn't bother to even look at the sound options? Go back to Windows and stay there dumb fuck.
>>59441895
I did, nigger. Audio levels show up, but no sound plays.
