Is it just me, or has MacOS come a long way from the steaming pile of shit it used to be?

>Dropped PowerPC
>Can be run on a custom PC using off the shelf parts
>Much more stable than in the past
>Actually decent selection of applications compared to a few years back
>HFS+ is finally being replaced
>Desktop actually looks decent

I know the hardware still has a lot of catching up to do, but is anyone else excited that Macs might actually be becoming usable? Finally we have an option besides Windows and Linux that doesn't make you want to shove your dick in a blender

What are those two yellow lines in the upper left?

I can see the memory controllers in the top right and bottom left, the SB at the bottom right.

There seems to be some SRAM cells on the upper left just above the CCX, I guess it's cache for whatever the yellow links are, but I can't be sure.

Those are the memory PHY.

I can see the memory controllers in the top right and bottom left,
There is only a single memory controller, and you can't see it. Those are PCI-E links, and you can physically count every one.
>>
>>59450509
Are PCIe links really that huge? Wouldn't the Broadwell-E be die half filled with I/O then?

You can only post in this thread if you have written your own scripts to do daily, weekly, monthly encrypted backups to external media.

If you post in this thread without being graciously done so your girlfriend will leave you. If you don't have a girlfriend you will never have one. If you are gay you will get raped. If you have a rape fetish you will never be touched. If you are otherkin then I feel so bad for you are allowed to post.

Well, I have written scripts to do periodic backups -- except that I don't bother encrypting them.

If I encrypt it on the external media, then it still remains unencrypted on my primary machine. So if a thief breaks in and steals my primary machine, then having the backups encrypted won't do anything to prevent the thief from seeing my data. Hence, no need for encryption.

> If you are otherkin then I feel so bad for you are allowed to post.

It is under this category that I am qualified to post.

Why would I encrypt it? The only stuff I care about backing up is stuff I personally made, none of which is financially valuable, but has sentimental value to me. I'm not a sick fuck pedo, so what should I worry about?

No joke, I tried installing W10 after using Ubuntu for 10 months because

I was really looking forward to just werks.

Instead I got that stupid "Something Happened :( " about 3 times after install. I don't understand how I fucked up. It's literally unusable because I keep getting that same bluescreen. I don't understand how everyone has such wildly different experiences with the same operating systems. Is this just hardware dependent?

/g/ I need some help guys

I need to be able to apply a band pass filter to a live audio signal using my Laptop so I can hear the filtered audio in real time.
I have Audacity, but I'm sure it only apples filters to recorded signals, which is no use for my application.

There's gotta be some free software out there.

I used puredata for something similar on a rpi or pandaboard.

Maybe not the optimal solution, but bandpass filter VST in a DAW would work.

I'm a steampunk fan building a replica of a laser cannon from Bioshock2.

The back of the gun contains a small round oscilloscope. With the compact design, there's no way to fit an actual oscilloscope into the real structure and still have room for lights batteries, switches and such.

Is there a cheap descent fake equivalent to a round oscilloscope?
how could I fake one?

thanks for your time, please excuse me if I posted this wrong. (first 4chan thread ever. lol)

If you actually want the oscope to move around, Im not sure its possible without modding an actual round oscope into your prop, which you say has not enough room.

Rounb displays aren't common at all. I'd think you could make a decent looking half-assed version that doesn't move with fluorescent paint on a glass lens with a UV led back light to glow the paint

I have a Vista Home Basic Dell DVD. As a VMfag/nostalgiafag (I know Vista's EOL is next month), I'm planning to use it for a VM. Question is, can and how do I upgrade the Home Basic version to another version (e.g. Home Premium or Ultimate?)
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>59450033
Pretty sure there's Anytime Upgrade on Vista, you could find a key on some site
>>
>>59450050
To install, I need to use a Home Basic key first. Since I'm not willing to use my actual Dell key (will probably be marked as in use anyway), can I use a deployment key to install? For Home Basic, it is RCG7P-TX42D-HM8FM-TCFCW-3V4VD (Note: this key cannot be activated).
>>
>>59450033

does it have to be a retail edition of vista or would you be willing to use a volume licence edition?
