What's the best Linux distro for videogames?
Looking for a Windows (visual) experience, minus all the bloatware thereof.
>>61043322
>Linux
>videogames
Pick one.
>>61043375
No, there are a lot of great games out there for Linux, I just need a stable distro not written by complete amateurs.
>>61043375
I'll pick 2 thousand
What are your experiences with them?
Should they be trusted?
kingdian, now go ask csg
>chinese anything
>trusted ever

KingDian SSD's are trusted
Now I know it's 2017, and you are either smart enough to not get a virus or the virus you get will ransom your computer and a reformat is essentially your only option.
But I have been asked by normies to recommend a good antivirus client. My usual advice is "avoid viruses".
But if pressed I don't really know what amswer to give and I was wondering what /g/ thought on the matter?

>>61043242
This is basically like saying "I'm going to go walking around at night in gang territory and don't want to get killed, what's the best bullet proof vest to wear?" An antivirus isn't like a condom, you can't just wear it before going on a dirty site to protect yourself.
>>61043276
>/threading yourself
On topic OP. It's pretty much as you suspect. Either you avoid viruses and you're never infected or you get a virus because you're an idiot and you need to reformat to clear it out.
Antiviruses only exist so that low level techies have something to blame.
it's going to $15.00 lol.
>>61043225
Resistance at $14.5, I expect it won't go much further before ER.
Intel is shitting the bed again on the other side though.

when we got back from vacation he rounded it up to 500 total shares yesterday.
Is it normal that mounting a fan on the side windows makes more noise than a jet taking off? I think it's the honeycomb-like grid's fault, but if that's the case, why putting it there in the first place?
>>61043080
Use front + bottom + back biggest size possible
>>61043112
I already have a front intake + back exhaust, both 140mm, and I bought another one (Noctua NF-A14, 140mm). Everyone praised it for its quietness, but as soon as I popped it in, it seemed to be ina fucking airport. I tried unscrewing it from the side panel, and it was in fact quieter. Do these case designers know what the fuck they're doing? Also, I tried placing it on the bottom of the case, but it seems to be doing jackshit
>>61043080
I think what's happening is the side panel isn't as rigid as the rest of the fan mounting areas, so the fan is probably causing a vibration. It would have been smart for the case maker to add some ribs to reinforce the panel with the fan mount.
AMD Ryzen 1700 vs. Intel Kaby Lakei7 7700k
I want to know pros and cons between the two, please no fanboy shitposting here, lets keep it civil and informative.

Get ready.
ITS OVER AMD IS FINISHED
>>61043003
1700 much better at multithreaded performance
7700K slightly better at single threaded performance
1700 $50 cheaper, doesn't require OC capable motherboard to overclock
7700K has toothpaste under the lid which can lead to temp issues when OCing
That's about it

Obviously, because you're a blub who can't understand anything higher than C.
Protip: templates.
Go learn how they work, unintelligent monkey.
>Irrelevant to the topic, he was talking about qsort being inlined. Stop trying to change the goalpost.
You are so fucking stupid if you cannot even follow a conversation properly.
You must have an IQ below 90.
You make all other C programmers look bad, just do all other C programmers a favor and kill yourself.
>For retards maybe. It's still wrong.
The facts, benchmarks, and assembly output disagree with you.

>What I'm implying is that you should be writing your own.
Ctards have to write their own version of the standard library to make it go fast because their language is so shit.
Have fun not being productive at all.
C++ doesn't have this problem, you don't have to reimplement the standard library to make it go fast, it can be inlined by design.
Why is everyone concerned about ekansovi possibly collecting userdata if reCAPTCHA has likely been doing it already? Unless you can tell me what the Secret Variables are, you cannot say that other things are more threatening than reCAPTCHA.

If you want help:
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA).
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU
>R5 1500x - All you really need for 60fps with power to spare; Don’t get an i5.
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; Get a 1600x if you don't OC
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming.
GPUs:
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>RX 560 and GTX 1050Ti - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games
>RX570 - 1080p@60hz at high, running most maxed older games at 144+hz.
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@60hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; Go for the RX580 if you can.
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@144hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p.
>GTX 1080 Ti - 1440p@144 hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games; You're kind of going overboard with this one.

General:
>ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
>Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
>NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
>The Ryzen lineup comes with exceptionally good stock coolers. (with the exception of the 1600X) consider using them over any sub 35USD cooler.
Why dont they make nice big monitors? A 40in is perfect size. Can they just not keep input lag down? Why does everyone want to play on a 24in monitor?
I think my GPU just died, a Vapor-X HD 7970 6G. When it's connected my pc won't start, and the mother board gives me error b2, Legacy Option ROM Initialization.any way too fix this, or do I have to buy a new one?

That's literally the difference anon.
What the fuck did you expect if not wider soundstage and more clarity and seperation? Unless you're specifically buying nigger bass headphones you got exactly what you should expect.

After you leave the £100 mark you are getting not much in return for casual (non-pro) use.
>want to start up a site

how can someone, like me, get a (good) start?
It's pretty cheap actually, there's domains as cheap as 80 cents, and you can get a low-end VPS for 5$/month.
Anyway if you want a blog, just use blogger. It's the most costumizable.
>>61042343
Just use Openshift

if you have a credit card buy a .edu account which is like 3$, you can get a domain for free and 50$ on digitalocean
What features are there that differentiate AM4 motherboards? I know with intel boards the main difference is whether certain features are "unlocked" and whether or not your CPU "supports" said features. But with AMD all the features work with all the chips and nothing is locked/restricted to expensive boards and chips right?
>>61042333
Like in all cases, motherboards only differ with chipset(irrelevant for AMD), number of ports/slots, (official)memory support, VRMs/caps/mosfets and component cooling and audio/NIC quality.
tl;dr mostly build quality, the first thing I look for in a mobo is the NIC.
>>61042333
X370 has more IO, SLI/Crossfire support vs B350. Thats in the chipset, outside of that X370 boards usually have extras like better VRMs, more cooling, RGB and such. I really applaud AMD for not going the Jewtel route by gimping your CPU and forcing to spend more money just to overclock.
>>61042333
>>61042792
Not OP but which X370 motherboard is the best for overclocking?
