3d Stereo Lumias

I have two spare lumia 920s with Windows phone on them lying around.
I want to build a stereoscopic camera rig for them.
My question is, has anyone an idea how to start both video recordings in sync?
Are there any USB remote shutters or do you have a really nice diy idea?

I tried starting both by hand an then syncing the frames but even the small phase separation is extremely noticeable and illness inducing

Check if it supports minijack shutter? That would be easy as pie to build, and im sure there is a way to make it work software side.
>>
See if the Os supports a way to customize USB inputs (like buttons). Or rig up a dual jack headphone cable with a button and see if you can make that trigger the shutter.
>>
Buy 2 bluetooth camera buttons for like $2 each. slave 1 to each camera. disassemble and wire a momentary douple pole button to both bluetooth units. Every time you press the button, the cameras will activate.

Hey guys,

So I have wretched sleep Apnea. I'm not obese, I'm 6'5 and 250lbs. I bodybuild and compete in endurance competitions. My 19 inch neck and huge upper palate are to blame.

I avidly hunt, fish and camp and not having a cpap machine SUCKS. I don't want to run a genny all night so I'm confined to a battery at basecamp.

My machine is a Phillips Dreamstation. The power supply box is rated to dish out 80 watts, so I'm assuming this is peak the machine will draw. So this should be around 6 amps and change at 12v.

What kind of battery should I get. Is there even anything that would last 3 nights? I heard Lead-Acid car batteries get fucked if you drain them dry and recharge them. However LiPo or LiFePo are totally fine with this.

Also this is the 12v supply cable for the unit.

I understand I don't need the brick as I will not be stepping 120v down to 12. I'll be going straight to a 12v battery.

On that male end, is the pin inside positive while the cylindrical outside is negative? Or vice versa?
>>
>>1058121
agm deep cycle is probably your best bet but it wont last a super long time at 8 amps. either you can get a solar charging system for the day or get a really cheap low output generator to run a charger for it during the day. the batteries i saw were about 55 amps c20 capacity (can provide 55 amps SPREAD across 20 hours, not for 20 hours) so it would have to be charged daily likely.
>>
>>1058121
As suggested a agm is easy and cheap. Otherwise you could use a laptop battery if the draw is actually under 2-3amps, but capacity may still not be enough.

Pretty basic question for all you folks experienced in electricity.

I know when I use a copper wire in a soldering gun, it gets hot enough to cut foam. In fact it gets too hot if I set it to high power for too long

I want to run that kind of juice into a strung up piece of nichrome wire

I want to get the juice from the wall

I want to be able to control how much electricity is being sent, because I plan on using the setup to cut different materials.

So with all that said, how do I do that? Feels like I'm looking for a 120AC input to a...variable wattage converter? From what I understand it's the watts that create the eat with a low resistance material, and amp has little to do with it so I don't want that.

I'm pretty retarded when it comes to electricity, so talk slowly and shy away from big words plz.

You can go down three routes here

You can spend the next 2 years tinkering with small electrical circuits until you feel confident enough to do this on your own without our help (best choice)

You can do whatever advice is given to you in this thread and burn your house down

Or you can go to harbor freight and just get a hot knife for $19.99

>I want to run 120 VAC into a piece of nichrome wire
>I'm pretty retarded when it comes to electricity, so talk slowly and shy away from big words plz.
A lot here depends on the details that you did not provide. You should say what size nichrome wire you want to use, and how long of a piece you will want to heat.

Also watts = volts x amps; so higher amps does mean more watts. But the nichrome has a resistance of its own, so the current is self-limiting to an extent.

Basically:
One simple way to do this is to get a Harbor Freight Router Speed Controller and use the variable setting on that. It costs $25 and will throttle 120 VAC from about 30% up to about 95%.
If it is too much power even at the low setting then you can add resistors by adding light bulb sockets, and putting regular incandescent 60w bulbs in them ( not CFLs or LED bulbs! ).

The only other things simpler than using a SCR are way more expensive: a variac (a variable transformer) or a BIG rheostat (a BIG wire-wound potentiometer).
Normal small potentiometers are not capable of being used as a throttle for more than a couple of watts of power, and a US wall socket is 1200 - 1800 watts.

If you only want to heat a few inches of nichrome, then you can use a DC motor speed controller, but then you will also need a DC power supply to feed DC power to the motor speed controller (it won't take AC power).
>>
>>1057744
Grab some THICC nichrome wire, buy a dimmer switch from your local home improvement store, connect the nichrome wire to the output (where the light you want to dim is supposed to go) and connect the other side to wall outlet, probably via a plug for safety reasons. Also wall current can kill you. Dont touch any exposed metal including the nichrome wire itself.

So I brought my first power tool, a circular saw for a chicken shed project I'm working on. The bore hole is 20mm on the circular saw blade I have atm but I needed a different blade for a finer cut so brought one with a 30mm bore hole that comes with reduction rings to 20mm... is there anyone here that knows about this sort of stuff? Do I just place the reduction ring inside the bore hole and its all good? There seems to be no information on the internet at all about reduction rings and how I fit them.

Start by repairing close you have that have issues. Blown seams are a good place to start. Another thing to do is copy clothes you already have. Take apart something you like that is worn out and use its pieces as a template to make new pieces, then assemble the new pieces into a finished work.

I meant actual fabric like down to the material the VERY FIRST steps i want something meaningful
>>
>>1057589
What material do you wish to start with? If it is plant based like cotton or linen you will need the plant fibers. Cotton and flax respectively. If it's animal-based like wool or leather you will need their by-products. raw wool and skins. They all have very different methods of producing a usable material. Pick one and google it.

I want to move, but can't for another 3 years because of my work.

My landlord won't let me change the locks on the condo I'm renting and to be honest I really don't trust the guy.

Are they any /diy/ methods to know if someone has been in my house besides installing security cameras?

Is it a one house town? Is your boss you landlords brother? Also why such an arbitrary time of three years sounds like you've enlisted or are on a visa?

Hair in the door, chalk dust for footprints, sound recorder, ask him if he has, ask your neighbours, one of those alarms that will message your phone.

Change the locks anyway, as long as there is no visible way to tell that you've changed them the only way he could tell is if he tried to enter the house while you were not there, which I'm pretty sure is illegal without you being there or giving written consent for it to happen while you are not present, I don't know about where you are but where I am if the landlord wishes to conduct an inspection of the property he has to give you a certain amount of notice beforehand, he/she can't just rock up any time of day or night unexpected and demand entry.

If you choose to change the locks make sure you hold onto the originals and replace them before you leave, I personally always change the locks when I move into a new place, I do this because a friend of mine once came home to find a total stranger sitting in his living room drinking one of his beers, the guy was a friend of the guy who had lived there before and had been out of the country for a while and did not know his friend had moved away, but he did know where the spare key was hidden in the front garden!, it was all just a big mistake but it could have been very nasty indeed, you better believe my friend changed every fucking door and window lock in the place after that!!

I need a 12 conductor cable for light power delivery (up to 30v ~1000mA each pair), which I've been having trouble finding, so I figured I could just use a usb-c 3.1 cable which is 24 conductor and I could just double up for 12 lines. I remember that to be in spec there must be a resistor inline on at least one of the pins, would this, or any other added hardware, be a problem for me using it just as 'dumb' copper for power?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
reminder that some of these cables are rated up to 20V 5A (your chink one probably isn't)

Who cares what you do with it, the real problem is: what if someone plugs in an actual USB device and fries their shit with 30V 1A?
>>
>>1057300
20v 5a over the power delivery conductors. I need to have 6 independent voltages each with their own independent ground. I don't think the data conductors will handle that without more significant losses and heat.

They won't, and if they do they're retarded, in the final design it would be very clear that this is not a phone charger.
>>
Well looking through official standards shows that while the ports have 24 pins, the cables do not have 24 conductors.

Also, will I experience inductive problems bundling 12 power wires together?

Hi /diy/, I'm Planning on building an Arduino power inverter that is modular and doable, I want it to be able to deliver true sine wave 240VAC from 12/24 VDC, in the range of 300-1000 Watts, Anyone experienced enough with electronics can tell me about the flaw in my very crude design ?
so it basically should go like this :
1) 12/24 VDC goes through a boost converter that is PWM regulated by arduino to generate 300VDC.
now here's where I need help..
2) 300VDC is then converted to 230-240 AC by using an (a high power BJT ?) amplifier transistor that will convert the 50Hz sine wave (analog signal ) coming from arduino to the 240V AC.
now coding isn't a problem for me, however, I'm not sure about the component that I should use to convert 300VDC to 230VAC, my arduino has an 2 external DACs that are capable of producing 50Hz Sine wave. but I don't know how to convert (using what ?) the 300VDC into 230VAC. any suggestions ?
I want to be able to make a UPS out of it and want it to be able to be connected in parallel with a twin device to produce twice (or 1.8X ?) the power if needed. In the future, I want to make it smart and IoT - able so that I can monitor energy usage and such.
