Proper tools for the job, measure twice, cut once.

Blocks are an ass pain, it's a real work out. I eye balled the rough block layout to get my rebar holes drilled and almost fucked up by spacing my rebar to close to where the block sits. Had a half inch to spare but I just bent the rebar inward.

Mortar mixing is more art than science. Buy the big black tub at HomeDepot or Lowe's to set in your wheel barrow,I have a mixer but only work 3or 4hours a day on it so the wheel barrow method is more efficient. Play with the mortar before you mix it for serious. Not enough water and it balls up and won't stick, too much water is sloppy and squashes out. Buy some extra blocks and make something small, like a 4long 3block high wall. Helps you figure out how to butter the blocks, how much mortar, how to level, align, and straighten them. Mike Hadduck I think on YouTube is pretty good to watch before hand and get an idea.

A proper masonry die grinder wheel helps to cut half blocks.

I'll be finished with the blocks this weekend I think and my lumber gets delivered Monday.

I'll post some more pics tomorrow, I'm phone posting right now.

Overall the only tools you need are patience and dedication to do it right-ish.

Here's a scorpion from after I finished the other afternoon

Is there a way to convert an air compressor to a vacuum pump without it being a permanent conversion?
9 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>

you made a thread about this already asking if it would work for your job, we said there were better ways, and now you are asking how to do your original idea?

http://www.exair.com/en-US/Primary%20Navigation/Products/Vacuum%20Generators/Pages/E-Vac%20Vacuum%20Generators.aspx

get a compressor driven vacuum generator, not expensive at all
>>
Usually yes but would depend on the pump's head design. It won't be a very high vacuum though. How much vacuum do you need? You can DIY probably to around -15 maybe -25 inHg with a oil compressor. Though, if you have a compressor, you'd be better off buying a venturi style pump for 20 bucks at harbor freight.

Hello /diy/
This is my first post in this board, since i'm more regular to /g/, but i'm thinking this is more up your alley:

I own Panasonic HXD3 Headphones http://headphones.specout.com/l/3425/Panasonic-RP-HXD3 which I plan to mod as follows (horribly made pic related).

I wanted to know what are the basics of what I should know to perform such a task, and if anyone else here has donde anything similar.

I don't know what the fuck this is. You want to add 3.5mm jacks to them?
>>
>>1066590
Yeah, either 1/8 or 1/4, i would prefer 1/4 jacks tho.
>>
>>1066595
That seems like a strange mod. Is each jack going to be a mono independent input for the left and right ear?

Ha. You're kidding.
I have a customer with one of these. The guy paid a ton of money for this overpriced combi, and it's so fucking complicated that no repair company will touch it. I tried working on it once, the thing is rediculous.

What kind of problem are you having? Did you clean the filter under the control panel? Is your cooling fan running?
>>
>>1066207
I work with a friend and even though i haven't had any problems, he's ran into some trouble. Most of the times people just don't know how to use the oven, so i download its info into a pendrive and figure out what they've been doing with it. But my friend says that he had trouble with some thermocouple. Anyway, at least i know that i'm not the only one who think these are quite complicated.

I repair commercial equipment for a living and turn these things down. Problem is that usually the customer is a small local restaurant that won't pay for more than an hour of diagnostics, and this unit needs a few hours at minimum. My suggestion to you if you need manuals and whatnot is to visit 3wire.com or partstown.com, and if you need to know how to use it, call the manufacturer. I remember seeing that they have a number for chefs to learn how to use it. For repairs, spend a day taking it apart and learning how it works before it actually breaks, and when it starts boot cycling like I've seen them do, you'll hopefully be a few steps ahead of me with it.

BTW, the main board that goes bad when it overheats is like 600-700 IRC. Don't let that fan stop or get blocked.

Everything else* is really expensive and requires me to go to a different city. I don't have a car so glued laminated timber is the only material I can really access because a hardware store literally next to my house stocks it.

Is building something 'simple' like a computer case or an arcade cabinet viable from it? The typical set is a 1000 x 400 x 18 mm (pine, oak or bamboo.)

Is it durable? Is there something I should know about painting and varnishing it?

You can do a lot with that much trash. I would recommend finding some sort of lubricant and soaking them in it. Afterwards they should be significantly slippery enough to shove up your ass.

Hi OP. You can make a non-rechargeable cell with aluminum scraps and common household materials which holds an energy density by volume on the same order as gasoline, which blows lithium-ion the fuck out. Here's an instructive video:

The hell is a ying yang hold up?
Anyway, I think that design wouldn't stand too much horizontal movement. Also, you need a strong frame. I've seen many wood ones that were shit.

Mm, thinking about it.. a telescopic bar you can lock, is thick and strong enough and has large soft blocks at the side but it would be a problem to keep it up without falling, and certainly a pain to make. My two cents.

>The hell is a ying yang hold up?

I don't really know. I just thought that it would work like a wedge and work like a clam cleat, pic related.

My body weight would wedge the bar, because of the shape of the ying yang hold up things. Idk what I should call them. They were my solution to the telescopic bar.
>>
your yin tang thingies should work IF you put some good grippy stuff on the side that sits against the door frame. maybe use those no-slip rubber mats they sell for putting on car dashboards? I think you don't even need the yin yangyness, just a couple of wedges. Might have to experiment with the angle of the wedge.

WACKY WAIVING FLAILING ARM INFLATEABLE TUBE MAN!!! ETC...

Not sure if this is really. That funny or if i am autistic. Probably both. Looking like this is my costume this year. Gonna sew it good and get giang google eys from walmart.

Thing is tho, i am a fat neckbeard fuck. Somewhere around 260.

Do they make hampers or similar that i can fit in without looking life sized...?

If not maybe just cheap netting or something and wire loops to keep the fabric shaped right?

Any thaughts.

>nb4 loose weight faggot.

Down to ~1,000 calories a day from about 5,000. And quit pop and beer daily. I'm over the hard part and it's smooth sailing to summer bod by summer. Lost a negliable 20 pounds or so, but today i get to punch a new hole in my belt!

an alternative to the hampers would be making hoops and sewing them into the fabric like ribs.

These hoops could be anything form wire to card circles.
>>
>>1065729
I don't think hampers would smooth out well- not sure if OP can find round ones that aren't tapered.
Hula hoops might work out.
>>
>>1065729
I thought about wire or mayne small hoola hoops and netting? Hamper os perfect if i dont hulk out though. Kinda want a skelitan frame so i can detatch the costume and clean it.

Apparently 3 ft of dirt can offset a lot of Gamma radiation etc., but I want to know about ventilation, if I should use a shipping container for the innards of the the dirt hole, etc.
It'd only need to last two weeks.

I want to build pic related basically, 30'x40' on both floors. Every calculator I've tried says to budget $250k (around $100/sq ft). How is this accurate when a house is mostly just concrete, wood, drywall, shingles, and siding (all very cheap) and similar older houses in the area (upstate New York) are going for $50k? Am I totally missing something here?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1065532
And windows, insulation, wiring, plumbing, heating, drywall...
Good building supplies cost good money, and it's not like one man can put a complete house together that can pass code in a reasonable span of time.
>>
>>1065532
You're right, new house construction with two floors should be about $600/sq ft, not counting the foundation, or permitting soft costs.
>>
>>1065542
Nah, depends on area but $250/sq ft for average grade quality materials is about industry standard. This price is climbing as trends and design change. In CA $300 /ftis normal, but i've seen $425 in nicer houses. Others in my field have seen $600 in high end places.

$100/sq foot is dirt fucking cheap. Yeah an individual 2x4, sheet of drywall, square of shingles, gallon of paint, board foot of trim, or outlet is kinda cheap. But multiply all those out to however much is needed. Then consider the most expensive rooms in the house: kitchen and bathrooms. These have cabinets, and cabinets are fuckin expensive at $250+ per linear foot, most average houses have a couple dozen or more lineal feet of cabinetry. It all adds up.

Then you have to account for the labor of skilled craftsman to build the fuckin thing without being a total shitbox 20 years from now.

If you're finding very similar houses for $50k, that means they're likely very old, inferior construction not up to modern code, needs repair, or something you're just not reading correctly. What calculator are you using, and how are you finding houses that cheap for sale? I don't think you could find a 2000 sq foot house for $50k. Even modular houses and trailers cost more than that.

I want to build some LED decorations for my room by illuminating acrylic sheets. I have seen ways of displaying neat patterns and images by engraving the surface. Now my question: is it possible to do the engraving by hand, without any tools whatsoever? All videos and blogs use special engraving tools and while they are quite cheap, I want to do it by hand if possible. Can I just take a sharp object and scratch the surface to do my engraving?

Well, I don't plan on making complex figures, so precision is not key here. That's why I would like to know whether it can be done with a screwdriver or so. Sounds stupid, but I don't know why it shouldn't work.
