I just built a shaving horse. It's made out of PT pine, deck screws, and a fence hinge because it has to live outside on the porch.

I just need to get a 3/4" dowel for the main hinge and make myself a seat of some sort. How can I into comfortable butt design? Sitting right on the planks for ten seconds made my ass sore.

Also what should I finish it with so that it expands and contracts as little as possible? I plan to gloop on some epoxy onto all the end grain surfaces so they don't wick up too much moisture.

Check the oops pile in your home improvement store for any outdoor based paints. Try for oil based. You only need a gallon and should be fairly cheap. You just wont get ur choice in color. If its light enough you can have them add a darker dye tho. I sometimes just ask for them to make it black or a dark brown.

You can also get deck stain from the oops pile too. That will work great too. Again no choice in color really ...

Ok

Any other anons built a shavehorse here? The variations on design were bewildering at first, but this one I made is pretty much the most popular type. But instead of having a chunk of wood to adjust the bench I use a dowel and a 2x4 for better adjustability. I haven't seen one like it any pictures I've seen of them. Maybe I invented it lol

So, several years ago I purchased a very nice cow-leather motorcycle jacket at a store that has since gone out of business. I fucking love this thing. It's been through several years of concerts, it's had beer spilled on it, it's fantastic at dispersing impact, so on and so forth. Though the lining has worn through in several places, the leather is largely unmarred except where I've taken a knife to it to put in some cone studs and a few pins on the lapels. This thing is incredible. However, I want to make my own jacket or vest, starting from scratch. What I'm wondering is if anyone has some resources to link me to that detail for a layman like myself how to treat leather so that it is both waterproof and heavily durable. None of that supple shit they usually have. I really don't even like the feel of that kind of leather.

Might anyone be able to help me out?

Bumping. Pretty sure the leather my jacket is made of is full grain leather, if that helps narrow the treatment process down any. It's some pretty stiff stuff, a centimeter or so thick. It once had a stool broken over it and I got shoved up against a concrete pillar. Didn't feel a fuckin thing. It's the best shit ever for punk shows.

If youve got sewing experince.. Great. But if not. I wouldn't... Id get sewing experince first. Also a sewing machine that has some balls for leather working cause fuck doing a whole jacket by hand...

If you want it to be an effective motorcycle jacket, and be even more comfy then shitty course grain cow leather.. You want to start saving up for kangaroo leather... Shits the best you can get! Stronger then cow, half as thick, for better strength and more breathable...

Now if you just want a leather jacket. Goat skin is super good because its super thin and pliable. And takes dyes and stains well.

I have some sewing experience, yes, but not a hell of a lot. I was actually planning on making embellishments out of cast aluminum for it. I have more or less of a design in mind, but I'm mostly just concerned with it being durable as fuck. It isn't really going to be meant for motorcycling, since I can use my existing jacket for that. I also don't have an issue with the leather being a bit on the rough side since that's what I'm both used to and prefer. The jacket itself is apparently quite heavy but I've gotten so used to it that I don't notice. It's likely that the design I'm planning will end up being more of a leather vest than a jacket.

hi, /diy/

I grew a pineapple and it has a lot of sentimental value to me. I just picked it this week after 3 years of growing. I ate it and it was delicious. I used one of those pineapple-corer things that keeps the outside entirely intact and in good shape.

I would like to make a cast of this, either in concrete or plaster or anything else recommended. I have seen it done before, so i know it is possible but i want to make sure i go about this the best way possible. I have some familiarity with concrete and plaster but it was more sculptural than casting.

Whats the best way to go about doing this?
Multiple part mold?
Will it be possible to make more than one copy?

Thanks a lot, found this photo as a reference for what i would like the end result to be.

Make a pineapple mold for the pattern, put some plaster inside the mold, and use a concave object to reproduce the hole.
>>
>>1054906
I forget to say, use silicon for the mold.

ya, thats what i figured to. Im going to put it upside down so the open end down, use some clay/hot glue around where the opening touches the bottom.

Any recommendation on what to use as the material for the mold? Can i use rubber to recast? i am also worried about all the contours and undercuts ect in the fruit. i dont know much about using rubber to cast molds either.

Here is my little pride and joy this morning.

With the money needed to buy the basic equipment, which you would use to diy the tools you'd need to make these, you could buy several thousand of them. That is before including the worth of your labor.

So my shop told me my powered steering pump is leaking. So i changed it. But i don't know what the copper peice is. Will electrical tap keep it from leaking at the seem?

>>
>>1054762
it's the high pressure line, and that is a crimped fitting on a hydraulic hose.

Tape will not stop it from leaking., either replace the whole hose, or get a hydraulic hose shop to recrimp it.
>>
>>1054764
it will cost more to recrimp it than to just replace it

Couldn't find a questions thread or anything of the sort here so I hope this isn't a waste of space
I was messing around with something, a bit of superglue splashed up on my monitor and I didn't notice it until later
Googled for a bit but I couldn't find any decisive answers
Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? Is it possible to get it off without damaging the monitor? If not, how to minimize the damage?

>>
Assuming it's not a glass surface: You could try scraping most of it off gently with a fresh sharp razorblade, then applying minimum amounts of heat at a time to dissolve the cyanoacrylate. Might (read:should) protect the surrounding area with things like tape and cardboard (or something equal) before you start applying heat.

If it's an older monitor with a matte screen, use this as an excuse to buy a new one
>>
>>1054482
Most superglues are solvent and melts and bonds with the plastic in contact, so unless it is a specifically solvent free glue, your screen is kill. At least you won't remove it without taking a bit of its skin off.
>>
Superglue remover is what you want mate. 3 bucks on amazon.

But be careful if your screen is plastic as I think it's a solvent.

I am selling my house and the buyer that I am in contract with is being a complete pain in the ass. During their inspection, they asked that I hire an electrician to fix my grounding electrode. I said fuck that and did it myself (6 gauge continuous solid copper wire running to the copper water supply line within 5 feet of entry to the house). I did more than they asked. It's up to code. They still want an electrician to look at it and tell me what I did was exactly what he would do. How much can I expect to pay to call up an electrician to come look at it and give me a piece of paper saying it's right?

>tfw this isn't allows for meter boxes where I live and I have to buy and hammer into the ground SIX 8-feet long copper-jacketed steel rods and wire them up using 4AWG.

I had to angle them kinda sharply because the ground is uber compacted clay and nothing wants to go further than 4 feet down.
>>
>>1054209
Are they yanking your chain? That is petty stuff to be worrying about when buying a house. If it was a foundation problem then yeah I'd ask the owner about getting it fixed professionally before buying it. But, grounding wires to the box? Ha!

All those little hot wheel cars use expensive plastic gears that break easily. They have a high center of gravity and plastic wheels. You can make them faster. But it is a pretty shitty platform. Try the razor electric go carts.since they have Better wheels, most are chain driven so you can actually transfer the the power to speed. The frames are also metal and they don't break with me on it at about 170 pounds. Much better platform and can be picked up on Craigslist cheap when they neglect the batteries. Which you can replace pretty cheaply online.
>>
^ This.

Having had a Razor 4-wheeler, it was able to zip my 250 lb ass across a large apartment complex to the convenience store across the street pretty quickly and regularly. The drive wheel tire wore out a lot but seriously you can't pull the speed and terrain off with a Powerwheels that you can in a Razor, especially if you weigh more than like 100 lbs.

What's the best way to glue polypropylene to itself? I know that this shit is really hard to glue to, but this is a low stress application.

Intent: I have a bunch of VHS cassette cases that I use for storing screws and shit. I want to glue the back part so shit won't spill out.

Hot melt glue
or
soldering iron in corner to melt and 'weld' it together
>>
I've used hot glue (High temperature stuff, low temp stuff just cracks off) with a lot of success (was using an old VHS cassette case to make an arduino case), I needed a lot of force to take it apart again later.

What would be the best way to do it? Atm I blacked them out with foil but did a shitty job with taping them and its quite hard t b h. I still have more than enough foil but don't know how to "glue" them and still be able to remove them few months later. And don't have money for proper blinds.

Blu-tack.

I did that in 2010 or so and my alfoil is still there.
>>
>>1053980
You can remove it right?
>>
>>1053976
You could white out your windows with windowlene. Benefits of that is that will clean it when you remove it.

As to black out just add some curtain liner to your curtains, by sewing, pinning, gluing or tape (depending on your skill level).
If you haven't got any curtains then put some up.

My neighbor has a former rental property he wants to unload but it's in rough shape

It is 1900 Sq Ft, 5 bed, 1 bath, two levels, dirt floor basement+ crawl space on .37 Acres of land with an unpowered 2 car garage and a barn.

It needs a lot of work. How much can I expect to pay to fix this stuff.

Needs a new roof (it leaks)
One of the bedrooms has a bad ceiling because of leaky roof
Kitchen floor needs jacked up
safe to assume that the cabinets and appliances need replaced.
May need new electrical (still uses a fuse box instead of a breaker)
Re-insulated
new windows
redo the plumbing

I can do this stuff myself so I won't have to deal with contractors.

Also how much should I offer him, he just wants to get rid of it.

shit you would be better off tearing down the house and starting new
>>
>>1053648
So, not worth it? Buy the land and put a modular on it?
>>
If the roof has been leaking that badly and that long, the whole fucking house is rotting now. Adding to that fact, virtually nothing about the house is modern or usable. You're looking at 0.37 acres with a garage, a barn, and a building that needs to be torn down. Price it as such and you won't get a bad deal.
