How can they even compete...
Wouldn't they have been better off just being original fresh heroes instead of knockoffs for the new generation?

Originality doesn't sell comics. People want heroes they're familiar with, even if it's a shitty SJW-friendly variation of it. No one wants to read about a team of new characters with new abilities they've never heard of before.

>No one wants to read about a team of new characters with new abilities they've never heard of before
Obviously they do or we wouldn't have the heroes we have today
You have to start somewhere. I'd rather have the slow grind instead of just starting on cheat mode.

How does it feel now that D-Man is a C or even B-lister?
I’ve noticed a troubling recurring pattern in modern day comics these days. It feels as though portraying women as tried and true villains these days is becoming more and more rare. That’s not to say this is a general comment regarding women, both men and women are equally capable of being terrible people, but comics used to have a variety of tried and true villainesses along with villains. Usually, you’re not meant to empathize with these characters, they were intended to be selfish, even if their reasons for doing what they do are considered dispensing justice in their own perspective, but I feel no villainess best exemplifies this better than DC’s Poison Ivy.
Growing up, Poison Ivy’s story was not a difficult one to grasp. Ivy empathizes with plants and nature more than she does her fellow human. In fact, she feels greater contempt for humanity than any other life form on the planet. Out of this was born Poison Ivy’s eco-terrorism, her efforts to wipe humanity off the planet in favor of plant life, further fueled by her hatred of humans for slowly wiping out nature. Ivy did not love people, she rejected them, and openly expressed love for plants instead. She was also not above using her sexuality to either manipulate or kill humans, which for all intents and purposes, did symbolize just how dangerous a female’s sexuality can be to others when used to their advantage. That of course is not to deliver some blanketed quote regarding women, as anybody with common sense would hopefully know, but Ivy was very much made to be written as a terrible human being, someone you were not meant to empathize or cheer for. As comics became more openly risqué, Ivy’s love for nature was used as a vehicle for making her a visual bombshell, which often worked well with her eco-based backstory and propelled her to fame as memorable Batman villain.
But this isn’t the Poison Ivy in comics today. Today’s Poison Ivy is much less of a villain, and usually isn’t seen without her ambiguous best friend/semi-ambiguous girlfriend Harley Quinn, who I’ll refrain from ranting about because there are no winners when she’s being discussed. To the average consumer, Ivy is not actively being billed as some big eco terrorist anymore, or some kind of symbol regarding how women can be just as threatening as men can be, which would be foolish to assume otherwise as both are as nothing more than human beings. Today, she’s just a “fun time girl” who occasionally acts in disapproving ways, which, as a comparison to her original self, is such an enormous waste of a character.
I feel nothing exemplifies this better than a commercial I saw today while shopping at Target. I know DC Super Hero Girls is a show, I’ve never watched it, have no interest in it. But now Lego is marketing toys of it.
I actively cringed when I heard a little girl in the commercial yell “Poison Ivy to the rescue!”
Poison Ivy does not “rescue” anybody. Poison Ivy kills you and your family for cutting down a tree to have logs for your fireplace to keep warm in the winter. Poison Ivy lures you into having sex with her and then dissolves your body in a genetically engineered carnivorous plant so said plant can grow as a new sentient species. Poison Ivy destroys factories and landmarks simply because a forest used to stand where they did.
But not anymore, now Poison Ivy is just a girl running around with her girlfriend having those happy sexy adventures while occasionally going out of her way to water a plant.
Everyone with an opinion on poison ivy needs to drink hemlock at this point
jesus christ
Without trying to make this sound like some sort of feminist/anti-feminist rant, what’s wrong with making a woman being an actual villain, someone who’s completely beyond empathy or redemption? I thought equal representation was the ultimate goal across all campaigns in comics today, that’s why we have legacy characters that have existed for decades having their races, genders or sexualities changed just so companies can claim they’re doing their part to keep up with the times, when usually, the only people who care aren’t the ones buying and reading their comics. If a woman is forbidden from being written as despicable as a man can be, how is that equal?
Because it looks like no one's dumped this shit yet
How many more seasons do you think this show will last? Can't blame them for being bad now, no show can stay good forever.

>How many more seasons do you think this show will last?
As long as humanity keeps making content for it to talk about.
South Park was ruined by its overt focus on political satire. Should have kept the surreality and irreverence that the first few seasons had. There's a reasons Fun Times with Weapons and The Losing Edge are such well liked episodes.

If Judge Dredd were Jamaican he'd be Judge Dread
If Judge Dredd was Jewish he'd be Judge Dreidel.
If Judge Dredd had created Beavis and Butthead he'd be Judge Judge
If Judge Dredd were also a doctor he'd be Judge Med
Which is the worst at handling story arcs? Or can you think of another show worse than all three?

Steven Universe is great at it.
SP and Adventure time are ok at it. None of them are bad at it.
