Going to be spending a few days in NYC soon, any specific restaurants or food unique to the city that I should try? Already know about the meme stuff like cronuts and giant pastrami sandwiches.

I'm thinking about bringing some food to grill to my parents on Saturday for the holiday and I'm trying to decide what to bring with me. I'm thinking I might do pork belly with a balsamic black pepper BBQ sauce. Not sure how it will mesh since I've never used it with pork before but I imagine all that fat would suck up the flavor nicely. Also going to do KBBQ short ribs. I am open to suggestions for preparation of the pork belly cut. sauce/mariande, etc but I will be grilling it so keep that in mind.
>>9104546
Don't try a recipe you haven't made before. Not in this instance. Prepare something you know will be killer.
>>9104564
Well I want to do BBQ something with the pork belly. I've made the sauce before and the sauce is outstanding. Just never used it on pork. Only beef and chicken.
>>9104546
Your parents already know you're a failure. Whatever you grill won't change any opinions.
Which fast food restaurant makes the best chili?
wendy's
>>9104505
Grains of Montana
>>9104505
I would say TooJay's but it's not really fast food except you can grab and go on the soups.
It's Jew food but they make a solid chili.
I like to pour freshly ground coffee beans into my french press, steep these dark grounds for 3 minutes, and then I put it in a pre-hot glass, after that I hold a spoons tip into the coffee and pour creamer on top of the spoon so the creamer is between the coffee. Take a skewer or something similar and do half a rotation and a sharp pull upwards.

Is there any science or skill that goes into making potato chips?
Seems to me that all your have to do is slice up a bunch of taters and pop them in the deep fryer.
>>9104371
yeah, it really is that simple.
Beyond normal common sense stuff like using the correct frying temperature and not overloading the fryer, yeah, that's all there is to it.
French fries has that "boil them at low temp once, take out, then boil 2nd time at higher temp". I dont think it matters much for chips since theyre so thin.
>>9104371
You don't want a waxy potato. Salt them while they're still hot.

Makes a good cup, but they're a pain in the ass to clean. How often are you supposed to clean them?
Got 4 huge ones of these for free but I only know one recipe for a dish that I've already used yesterday.
Besides eating raw, how do you eat your kohlrabies?
Usually stir fry or make a soup with pork ribs. Also put in salad.

I sometimes cut into french fries and coat with oil and roast on a cookie sheet similar to oven fried potatoes. Add them to soups or stews; they are great in a borscht, for example. Pickle them in a vinegar brine.

i used it to make a puree with a little bit of cream and butter to pair with a nicely seasoned steak.

Looks pretty good, though I don't know how to feel about the onion soup mix, I'm tempted to try something like that since I like oniony burgers.
In any case, obligatory

Hey /ck/ first post, made this for breakfast. rate 1-10?
I seasoned the eggs with S&P, italian herb mix, lemon pepper, and tobasco. For the toast i put grape and Raspberry jam
eggs need some ketchup otherwise looks amazeballs
>>9103407
Your toasts look like a muffin cross section.
There is literally nothing wrong with putting ketchup on steak.
With steak, you want to make every bite count. That's why we use A-1 Steak Sauce. A-1 brings out every single bite of steak or even hamburger. Mmmmm, delicious. For me, there's only one steak sauce, A-1. Because A-1 has all the taste that makes every bite count.

Hey /ck/, I'm craving a frozen corn dog right now, but my mom is sleeping and I don't want to wake her up with the microwave, what do? Pic unrelated.
>>9103235
1. unplug microwave and take it outside, bring a generator or use outdoor power socket if you have one
2. microwave some frozen corn dogs while enjoying the outdoors
>>9103258
Hey, that's actually a good idea. I happen to have generator with me at the moment too. Thanks anon.
>>9103235
You don't need a microwave if you're craving a frozen corndog.
going grocery shopping tomorrow.

Why waste money on food then
I want to make some rice and beans but this is a dish with infinite possibilities and I find myself indecisive as to how to go about making it. Cook rice and beans together? Cook beans in a separate sauce? Refried beans? Meats? Preferably some kind of Latino recipe.
So what is the ABSOLUTE GOAT way to make rice and beans?
>>9102791

>>9102806
This is a thread for discussing all things having to do with rice and beans.
>>9102791
>pinto beans
>cumin
>chili powder
>salt and pepper
>a diced onion
>some jalapeno
>olive oil optional
Put all this in an electric pressure cooker and set it for 55 minutes. Walk away, come back in an hour, and have dinner with this over brown rice.
