Why do you open a thread like an ESL attempting a Google search?
Holy shit. The attention to detail is fucking crazy. My sous chef got me this book as a birthday present and my mind is fucking blown. Have any of you read this shit or tried to recreate any of the dishes in it?

So today I bought a pound of shrimp, but it didn't even occur to me that I might need to to research on the subject. If I buy anymore it will be from a local source to ensure quality. These are imported, I did some reading about it earlier and the quality for imported shrimp in the U.S. is terrible. Only 2% is actually even inspected. What do you think, should I try to still eat them? Because I am thinking about just throwing them out and eating the loss. I checked them out a little while ago and they look okay but what can you tell just by looking? I really don't care to get sick or eat any junk.
>>9114174
wow that was helpful
Your only yardstick of quality here is the way the shrimp looks, feels, and smells. You're going to cook the shrimp-- if it's not spoiled, stop worrying. I feel ridiculous explaining this
So did they discontinue this? I'm not seeing it in stores anymore.

Describe to me what clam chowder tastes like please
I find it very hard to believe there is a common product that features the clam, such a sea oddity, surely this must taste of rancid fish and sea water, or not really using clams at all? There is a reason only fried breaded fish sticks are common seafood sold in stores
>>9113831
homemade it tastes great
Cream mostly.
>>9113831
The stuff that comes in the can barely tastes different than potato soup. It's creamy and savory. Not fishy at all.
When was the last time you and a close group of friends and family sat down to have a good old fashioned porgy? they say it taste like lobster.

Why are McDonald's fries so small/skinny? They look like deep fried potato sticks. NO ONE ELSE DOES THIS!
Is it true that if you stand within 3 feet of a running microwave your brain will get cancer and explode?

How to reheat food then
where do I get cheap meat? I try to eat 1/4 - 1/2 lb of meat every day, but it ends up being 70-80% of my food budget. everyone says chicken breast is supposed to be cheap, but it's usally $6/lb for boneless. I thought beef chuck was supposed to be cheap, but it's almost as much as sirloin. even ground beef is expensive.
>>9113600
Chicken breast isn't cheap, but sometimes you can find chicken legs for $1/lb or less. If you buy a whole chicken and cut it up yourself it's cheaper that way too. Tougher cuts of pork are cheap, except for the ribs. Beef is going to be more expensive unless you get really low quality ground beef full of gristle.
Do you really need that much meat though? It would probably be better to eat less but higher quality meat once in a while, have more eggs and dairy products for protein.

I don't think it's a lot. 1/2lb is one chicken breast or 1 pork chop.
Anyone brew Small Beer? I'm thinking about it from a lifestyle perspective. If I can get my base calories throughout the day with a .75% alcohol kicker then I see no downside. Live that medieval life
"It was common for workers (including sailors) who engaged in heavy physical labor to drink more than 10 imperial pints (5.7 litres) of small beer during a workday to quench their thirst. Small beer was also drunk because it contained precious calories, and might even have bits of wheat or bread suspended in the drink.
Small beer and small ale can also refer to a beer made of the "second runnings" from a very strong beer (e.g., scotch ale) mash. These beers can be as strong as a mild ale, depending on the strength of the original mash. (Drake's 24th Anniversary Imperial Small Beer was expected to reach above 9.5% abv.[2]) This was done as an economy measure in household brewing in England up to the 18th century and is still done by some homebrewers. One commercial brewery, San Francisco's Anchor Brewing Company, also produces their Anchor Small Beer using the second runnings from their Old Foghorn Barleywine. The term is also used derisively for commercially produced beers which are thought to taste too weak."
why wouldn't they drink tall boys if they were working all day?
that's how I roll and it works pretty good
>>9113586
I've done a small beer in the past when brewing a barleywine.. It's double the work and time of a normal brew day. Easier to just brew 10 gallons at a time instead of 5.
It is nice to have two fermenters full instead of one.
Sober Sally's Sober Friday
