I heard this guy say that eating a wild animal's nervous system is dangerous, why is that?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.

It's thought that neural diseases transfer more easily from animals to humans than other kinds of disease. There's also the spectre of the Mad Cow scare. I've eaten brain numerous times, and other than it being really high in cholesterol I can't say I've had any negative experiences.

What wee your favorite school lunches when you were younger? Least favorite?

Best at my school was pic related. The chicken fried steak was good too because we got mashed potatoes and a biscuit. Usually all the sides we got sucked but those were top tier. Another good one was what they called "Crazy Chicken Wrap", which was just chicken fingers in a tortilla with lettuce, ranch, and honey mustard.

The worst is definitely that shitty rectangle pizza.

Chicken rings + buttery mashed potatoes, or chicken fingers + buttery mashed potatoes. My school also had a free salad bar that had delicious croutons

How have you reduced sugar in your diet, /ck/?

What are your daily sources of added or natural sugars?

'Murrican reporting.
I don't add sugar to anything (except for what's mentioned below), but I do eat a lot of fruit, at least one or two pieces of fruit a day, sometimes more.
About once or twice a month, I'll bake some desserts, but I use things like fruit purees, bananas, honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar to sweeten them.
I'm not in any danger of getting the 'beetus, and it doesn't even run in my family, but eating too much sugar is just disastrous for your body.
Now, I can't control how much sugar is used when I go to restaurants, but I just have to accept that, and deal with what I can control at home.
>>
I haven't because sugar is harmless insofar as it does not make you gain weight or cause inadequate nutrient intake (which for me it does not)

Americans consume a lot of calories from sugar because Americans consume a lot of calories in total. Americans are scared shitless of sugar despite having one of the highest fat intakes in the world and dying of heart disease, stroke and diabetes at record rates (none of which are caused by sugar). Americans are brainwashed by meat and dairy industries which have a strong interest in downplaying the harms of fat and exaggerating the harms of sugar and carbohydrates more generally.

My sources of natural sugars are fruits and vegetables as is the case for most people. I prefer bananas, dates, figs, applesauce, tomato products. Sometimes I'll have frozen berries, sometimes grapes, pineapples, whatever.

My sources of added sugars are raw cane sugar that I sprinkle on various dishes as well as adding it to certain vegetables. I also use sugar beet syrup (German) which is simply whole sugar beets with fiber and all cooked down into a syrup. Sometimes I'll have different jams obviously with added sugar, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, good stuff. And also Haribo candy, ginger-lemon is the best.

Americans consume a lot of sugar because it is in everything. Meat, bread, soup, canned food and many other products have tons of added sugar

Don't get me wrong: I'm not a fan, either, but there are a lot of variations. The one with which I'm most familiar is thick and spreadable and not really runny.
Here's how I know it to be made:

Halve a cucumber lengthways.
Using the back of a spoon, scoop out the water seeds, leaving just the solid, fleshy walls.
Cut each half itself in half lengthways yielding quarters.
Slice or roughly chop the quarters and salt generously, then set aside for a while for the salt to leech out as much moisture as possible; meanwhile, grate or pound some garlic into a paste.
Mix strained yogurt (strained more than even "Greek" yogurt is normally) with the pasted garlic, a bit of EVO, some chopped dill and/or parsley (dill is preferred where tzatziki is natively made but in some parts of the former Ottoman Empire, parsley is used instead; in southern Hungary/northern Serbia, tarragon is used sometimes) and a dash of vinegar (red preferred, but any is fine).
Squeeze the cucumber bits of excess liquid then rinse in cold running water to remove excess salt and squeeze dry all over again.
Fold in the cuke bits, adjust salt to taste and serve.

Others variations don't scoop the cukes or salt them and squeeze them or they don't use strained yogurt. That makes a more liquid-y sauce rather than a more spreadable condiment.

Growing up, I never knew pork rinds were actually from pork. I always thought they were made from corn with some seasoning.

I learned this when someone told me the truth after I went through an entire bag and ended up puking it all out.

Looks very nice bro, would you be interested in sharing your recipe and technique please?

Additionally, if anyone is aware of a good vegetarian substitute for parmesan, I'd be much obliged.
