I'm heading to Philly next week. What's the most authentic way to have a cheesesteak, and what's the best place to have one?

I've heard Pat's & Geno's are both touristy and not really that great unless you're drunk.

Also, open to good eats in Philly if there's any recommendations.

Dalessandro's Steaks is also god-tier. If you're a fat I'd go to both.
Get with onions, jalapenos and mushrooms
or go ham and get it loaded as fuck.

>I've heard Pat's & Geno's are both touristy and not really that great

I can confirm that. I visited both of them during a business trip and frankly they both suck.

The best philliys I had were based on recommendations from the locals. I don't remember the name of the places, they were all little hole-in-the-wall places.

Just ask your friends who live there, business contacts, the people at your hotel, or whomever else it is you're meeting in Philly and they'll set you up with a good place.

Hi, pizzafag here.
I always only used olive oil (my father has some olive trees) for everithing aside deep frying, so i'd like to learn in what cases another oil is better.

>>
>>8661152
Peanut is the only other oil I use. It's good for deep frying and high heat situations like wok cooking.
>>
>>8661187
I use that too. So the answer is stick with olives?
>>
I like the flavors of sesame, pumpkinseed and walnut oils. Try those for dressings instead of olive oil for a different taste.

Is Chicago a meme now? Or is it just a couple of fatass Chicago cunts that keep making threads

Chicago is a weird place. The city is full of good places to eat, but the locals tell you you HAVE to get awful shit like hot dogs, Italian Beef sandwiches and the local takes on pizza. Avoid that shit and just go to one of the city's many good restaurants and you'll eat well there.
>>
>>8661118
This. I live in Indiana about an hour and a half from Chicago so I go there all the time when I want to treat the gf to a nice date. Everyone there tells me these places to get the "best" Italian food or pizza but when I get there it's just a disgusting slab of grease and shit.

People from Chicago act like they're so much more cultured than simple country yokels but then they eat the same garbage I eat back in rural Indiana, but greasier. So I stopped listening to them and just started looking at Yelp before I go there.
>>
>>8661229
I get it though. Hot dogs and big greasy beef sandwiches were exciting to people who lived through the Great Depression. Pizza with as much cheese piled on it as humanly possible was exciting to someone who lived through war rationing. But that shit was well over half a century ago. There are much better things to eat in Chicago now. But these mediocre at best dishes hang on as part of the city's identity, dragging down the reputation of an otherwise good food town.

To a lesser degree Cincinnati has the same problem. It's actually become an OK place to eat over the last decade or so, but the town's association with a Skyline 3-way still makes it a joke.

I like to put jello into the side of my cheeks and leave it there for as long as I can. It feels good.

As a kid I'd swish it through my teeth. It bursting into smaller bits in my mouth felt cool
>>
>>8660598
Yes, I do this. I'll put pressure on the jello pocket until it bursts into another side of my mouth. Feels good. I should get some jello.

Does anyone really eat thia many pancakes in one setting? is it an American thing?

Nobody likes pancakes that much, they make you sick of them as a survival technique
it has to be a breakfast gathering
>>
I only eat stacks of three or four. I think the "tower of pancakes" thing was popularized by cartoons
>>
>>8660525
There's only about 500 calories in that stack.

Alright, cu/ck/s, I finally moved in to a place of my own and got myself a fridge.
It's empty now.

I'm new to this cooking thing, so..
What ingredients should I stock in it to cook with? (Excluding expensive shit like truffles and foie gras).

Eggs and beets, that way you've got breakfast, lunch and dinner covered.

Dijon mustard, sauerkraut, hot dogs, hot dog buns.
>>

OP here, you store bread in the fridge?
I normally keep it outside, at room temp.

Do Denny's chefs have a harder job then a fine dining chef? A fine dining chef has to do 3-4 dishes perfect.

A Denny's chef has to make 30+ VARIOUS dishes ranging from wings to steak and everything in between

What are some good recipes that don't use these ingredients?

What is your routine when you buy groceries?

I make sure to eat a meal first because I spend a lot more when I shop hungry. I make my way from the fruits/vegetables, to the canned/bottled, then to the bakery, and finally to the cold/frozen section. I then choose whichever line has the least amount of carts. Most people choose the shortest line, but short lines can have people with full carts, thereby taking longer.

> smoke a bowl
> spend 20 minutes trying to find parking at trader Joe's

>>
Routines are for businesses and large families. Just buy what you need and get the fuck out.
>>
It involves a lot of standing dead still, staring into empty air, as I obviously and stoically wait for asshats to hurry up and move out of my way, whether through an aisle or away from a shelf.

Trying to navigate a grocery store is fucking excruciating, especially all the time spent waiting near the end with a week's worth of food hanging off your wrist
