>They like sweet red wine

>wat is port
The true pleb filter is when someone claims sweet = bad
Just because you've only tasted critter wine doesn't give you grounds for spouting off about shit you know nothing about
>yes I'll have a jack and coke
A pleb pretends not to like something that tastes good because he thinks it will impress other snobs.
A true patrician's taste evolves and matures beyond the more basic considerations of simply "tasting good" and desires a more complex and rich experience. If he cares about the opinions of others at all, he would try to enlighten them instead of shame them.
Hey, /ck/,
I'm participating in a potluck with 20-30 other people in a couple weeks and IDK what to make.
My drive to the event is about 1 hour and 10 minutes, which may make transportation of a dish an issue. I have access to a shitty microwave and no oven.
I had the idea of doing a crock pot full of Korean beef, but I floated the idea to a couple other participants and they didn't seem interested. It's probably a bad idea anyway because of the cost, the drive, and the number of people to feed.
Give me your go-to potluck recipes, /ck/. I'm pretty open to things, but I'm especially interested in things that aren't desserts.
Thanks!
Boil some potatoes in the microwave. Make potatosalad with sourcream/mayo, chopped red onions and chives.
Great for sidedish to all those meatballs you're gonna see.
>>8668206
Thanks for the idea.
I should clarify that at my home I have a microwave, and oven, a slow cooker, a toaster. At the venue, there is but a microwave.
I'm thinking about home made salsa, but then I think if I'm gonna do salsa, I could just buy half a gallon and it wouldn't go bad overnight. I don't fuxxing know.
Someone's doing BBQ chicken sandwiches, cheese dip, buffalo dip, and cake so far.
>>8668187
someone explain the potluck thing to someone not from the US?
My understanding is its a cummunity/church-organised get together where everyone brings a dish, why would you be on a 1hour drive for that? Is there anything to win?
Or is potluck just a general theme for a party/meeting?

Well /ck/?

Ask Sylvia Plath
Electric heats up more evenly and provides a dry cooking environment.
Gas heats up more quickly, but can be less even (especially on cheaper gas ovens), and will provide a wetter cooking environment (food will dry out less quickly).
The Dry vs wet argument has merits on both sides, it's a preference thing.
Due to the range on top, gas is the top choice. It simply provides way more BTUs and finer cooking control. Not to mention the heat energy in the form of natural gas is something like ten times less expensive than the cost of electricity. A gas flame also can never really wear out, but electric elements do wear out, break, and get dirty with burned on shit.
You got an onion and you got the tomato
What are you gonna do with it?
>>8667592
Use them as toppings on pizza
i guess bake the onion and just eat the tomato while i'm waiting
Blend them to use as a sauce for curry.
School food was the best food, I never got over that
Never had a burger as good as these types
>>8666756
>i've literally never eaten a burger outside of school or fastfood
I was extremely poor growing up and my parents wasted food stampsby themslves and left bare staples (saltine crackers, milk, bread, butter, and lunch meat if lucky).
The school burgers, spaghetti, nachos, and pizza were some of ths best tasting foods in my childhood.
>>8666756
Your taste is so offensively bad I sincerely want you to die.
Can I sue olive garden for breaking my microwave?
I got bread sticks to go. the outside of the bag had no appearance that metal would be inside. So i reheated them late at night and boom my microwave went bye bye in sparks.
I bet they would settle if you got a lawyer who agreed to take the case
>>8665728
you just put the bag in the microwave without checking what was inside?
>>8665728
> how do I blame someone else for my incompetence

Could you fämälämäzoids blow someone away with your cooking?
As a side topic, how is truffel oil and how do you use it?
>>8668851
1) Yes. I've done so many times.
2) 99% of the time "truffle oil" is a cheap vegetable oil that has an artificial truffle flavoring added to it. You use it by throwing it in the garbage can. Real truffle oil does exist, and it's expensive as fuck. That would be a base oil that has pieces of truffle in it. It's used as a dressing--drizzled onto food--in very small quantities because the flavor is strong.
Of course. Pasta is a good dish for that. Also simple things like perfectly cooked vegetables and meat. Sauces are what really tend to blow people away IMO.
Anyway, I would suggest actually purchasing fresh truffles instead of truffle-flavored products. They really aren't that crazy of a purchase if you have a bit of disposable income. Truffles are cheaper than marijuana in some places.
>>8668889
>Pasta is a good dish for that.
I mean, cooking a great ragu for gnocchi or stuffed pasta like ravioli. Also, a really simple pasta done right can blow people away. Something like amatriciana or carbonara.
