It occurs to me that my basic goals are "retirement" goals. What I want is an inflation-proof private income.

If I'm investing conservatively, what returns can I reasonably expect, in terms of dividends and interest?
I'm thinking 5%, of which three fifths are re-invested.
So €100 capital would give me €2 spending money per annum, the value of which would rise to match or beat normal inflation levels.
(Naturally the real figures will have a few more zeroes.)

The optimist in me wants to get a 6% return and have half of that for spending money, but optimism is a good way to get burned. My motto is "Round expenses up, and round profit down."

I like very old businesses with government contacts rather than startups, and am willing to invest in the USA, UK, and Europe.

So, optimism and pessimism aside, what's the reality of the rates I can expect?

i dont think you understand that it has been proven to work, people who arent salesman dont know about that kind of stuff and it's also heavily based on your tone. If they've seen the wolf of wall street or some other bullshit similar they'd just think "wow this guy is a good salesman"

Do you even have a sales job?

how do you profit from it? also i was wondering, can you use tools like google trends or trending twitter hashtags etc, to determine what content to publish on your site and then just scrape portions of already published articles off news sites to use as your own content (kinda like a preview) and just link to the original article?
>>
>>1036775
That's literally exactly what Facebook does
>>
>>1036777
right. now im wondering, will your site even show up as a relevant result on google? the content may very well be relevant to the search term but i guess google will rank the site low because the content isnt original?

I get 1'600.- CHF every 25th every month. I have some bills, probably around 300.- CHF every month. Also want to save some cash, and i need cash for food and stuff. So i have around 500.- CHF left to trade. Is daytrade somezhing for me? Im reading 2 book for beginners atm.

Start with swing trading, easier, profitable and requires little time. Ideal to make money while building experience.
Demo until you have a profitable quarter. Which is going to take around 2 years or more, until you figure out a decent trading system

The only profitable form of daytrading i'm aware of is scalping futures and fixed income. Almost impossible on FX because of the randomness of price over the lower timeframes, stick to swing trading in that case.

Ideally you may want to start with 1000 CHF or so, so you don't have the pressure of losing a lot of money. Oh and it will be hard. Don't take paid courses, just get a shitload of books and try to follow profitable traders on Stocktwits

Thanks for the advice

I started buying facebook likes for my company, and so far it's 30 cents per like. Is this good? Should I just keep it running? Is it a scam though and all these people are fake?

Lel, stop it. There are marketing companies, whose do shitfull of fake accounts and sell likes. They watch out for every little detail so the fake accs are like the true ones.

Forget this and use some gift what u give to the likers on a sweepstake
>>
>>1036653
What do you do?
>>
>>1036653
Yeah stop it. Because the fake likes wont interact with your shit, it's going to cause other people to not view your shit.

Education related. I'm an American college student majoring in Finance with admittedly low knowledge of the field outside of what I've learned in class.

I'm interested in a few things offered by my Uni, but can probably only choose one, due to excess credit hour restrictions. Choices are a minor in International Business, or a certificate in either Banking, Investments, or Corporate Finance.

I'm most interested in Int'l Business, but I really don't know much about the areas that the certificates are in. Basically if you guys could offer advice on which to pursue, or at least some education on what these areas involve, it would be much appreciated.

Oh, yeah, and I don't care which looks best to employers, I really just want to know which is the most important topic to learn and know well.

>>1036610
What makes it an important topic for you to learn if it is not what looks good to employers? Interest? If it will make you happy?

Overall I would go with a certificate. I am currently doing my masters in Financial Engineering and Management and can tell you that if you do not like to work at a bank, don't go with the banking certificate. Corporate Finance or investments would be nice though. I would probably go for Investments, because that is where I want to go. What kind of job are you pursuing?

Say I start a small corporation (making under $5,000,000) but I want to purchase real estate through the corporation, should I be forming a C corporation or S corporation?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.

I would form the better Corp for taxes and for every major real estate purchase you create a lp subsidiary that represents the land
>>
>>1036602
My accountant has advised me that buying real estate should always be done with an LLC. Tax reasons. I live in Wisconsin.

Ask a college senior with an investment banking job lined up next year anything.

I know a lot of you guys are rather discouraged that you can land an IBD role but you totally can if you do everything right.

Asked elsewhere but didn't get any responses, so what's /biz/ opinion on urban planning as a career?

I did a business degree, with a major in business law (Ireland, so not actually qualified to practice law without further study and an apprenticeship) and a minor in management. I'm thinking of doing a masters in planning & development for a career as an urban planner, as law is apparently somewhat relevant and I'm not really interested in being a lawyer.

Thoughts?

Also, career advice general, I suppose.

bump. been thinking along these lines also.
>>
I was very interested in this as well but after I researched it I got a bit discouraged. Seems like most schools are just theory so a lot of programs don't give you any real skills. Those skills are needless to say, important.
>>
The jobs i've seen posted (AUS) seem pretty open, like not requiring actual qual in the field but able to adjust to the field with experience in law being important.

Sup biz.
Do you want to get money for nothing? I have an idea for you.
You live in USA. I'm living in a third world country.
Minimum rate in USA is $8 per hour. Minimum rate in my country is $82 per month.
There are a lot of remote jobs for americans with high rates in States.
I would like to work instead of you. We would like to work instead of you.
I can find skilled specialists in every sector of business.
Just get the job and give it to me.
You will have money, insurance and retirement savings for one job interview.
Need more money? Get another job. And give it to me. Get more jobs and get more money.
One interview and someone will work for you until fired.
What do you think about it?

A permabear is no smarter than a permabull.
>>
Although I am a libertarian, hold money in gold, and listen to Schiff consistently, I am reluctant to say he's right. I don't see where the industry bubble is and I'm not convinced the so-called dollar bubble exists or is even relevant. Unless I see negative growth in GDP in the next six months, I'm not giving any credit to Schiff. Even if there is a recession, there's no guarantee it will be worse than 2008. I am 90% sure it will be though, but it's still too early to say for certain.

I must also remind you that the DJIA fell by almost 600 points in one day back in August before rebounding. It's tough to tell with these kinds of things. We may just be headed towards a bear market, not necessarily a crash.

Best programming languages to start learning for future work in quantitative economic analysis?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1036498
Assuming you mean quantitative financial analysis as in the stuff that HF traders do probably: C/C#/Java, Scala, Python/R

If you mean economic analysis, then I don't know what the fuck you mean.
>>
Python (pandas, numpy, scipy), R (too many neat libraries to list, but ggplot2 is a must for visualizations)

If you wanna get into machine learning or AI-based analysis, C++ or Java is a good choice.
