Best programming languages to start learning for future work in quantitative economic analysis?

Assuming you mean quantitative financial analysis as in the stuff that HF traders do probably: C/C#/Java, Scala, Python/R
If you mean economic analysis, then I don't know what the fuck you mean.
Python (pandas, numpy, scipy), R (too many neat libraries to list, but ggplot2 is a must for visualizations)
If you wanna get into machine learning or AI-based analysis, C++ or Java is a good choice.
Thanks!

I hate it when people ask this question. It's like asking what font to use for writing a bestselling novel.

on the sell side, as a quant, you need C++
C# can also be useful
on the buy side there are rather different quant roles relating to trading system development - very different skill set involved and you'll typically use R, matlab, python as a researcher or quant in that area... typically you're not producing production code and another team of software engineers or quant developers would then be doing the actual implimentation

It probably makes a difference.
