how does one get a business idea?
Are there any processes/techniques to improve getting these ideas?
Does it have to be an area, which you have education/in which you have worked before?
Start with a problem that doesn't have a satisfactory solution to it yet.
Work in an industry and become familiar with all the ins and outs of it. Whatever you find that has you saying, "man, this is taking forever" or "this is more effort than its worth" is an opportunity for a business.
Can you open a successful restaurant if you dont know anything about food ?
Probably not, most restaurants fail.
Ok i need some help guys.
I live in a country where getting a job is literally impossible if you dont have good connections, i am currently studying in college but i really suck at learning astronomical amounts of stuff from books and i think its just not for me. Now how would one go about earning money legally when no job is available and college is a big waste of time? To add even if i finish college finding a job will STILL be a problem, the only solution then would be to leave the country to somewhere where working people are more appreciated.

Spanish? Because the situation is not that bad, succesful people always find a job.
>>1035288
nope, Serbia. Even if you manage to find a job the pay is so bad you can barely get your basic needs met.

CAN'T TIME THE MARKETS THEY SAID
BETTER EARLY THAN LATE THEY SAID
>>1035256
It's always about the time in the market. You'll ride it out or at least DCA your way through the time period you want to be invested in the market.
>>1035283
this guy is right. just double down. you bought those particular stocks for a reason. if you thought it was a good buy then, it's a good buy now.
Yea its always about timing.
People will lie and say its not because they need a sucker to loose for them to win.
They like you being in Early because they know you lose and they win and you being in means they can take from you in the game.
They always want people to be in the game because it makes them feel safe to have others there to scam from.
So a year ago /biz/ told me to download Acorns and let them invest my money. I wasn't seeing any gains at the time so I pulled it out but recently since blue chip prices dipped I figured a moderately aggressive portfolio would have some recent returns in the future.
But now /biz/ is on Robinhood? Should I pull the $50 I have in Acorns out and try to invest it myself in Robinhood? Or is now the right time to let someone else invest my money for safe growth?
god I have to stop drinking in the morning. Half of that post doesn't make sense.
tl;dr: Acorns for safe small returns or Robinhood and try to do it myself?

GET THE FUCK OFF MY BOARD!!!!
>>1035244
I mean that's just from roundups starting December 17th, when I could tell the big indexes were about to dip.
I'm obviously going to invest more.
So we hear a lot about the student loan bubble. But is education itself a bubble? I've got the beginnings of an idea for a long term organization, and I'm not sure about what sort of legal structure is best. A college would probably give more tax breaks in the short term, but I'm worried that a for-profit corporation would be less affected by changing regulations.
TL;DR: does /biz think governments are going to try to get more money from educational institutions in the future? I'm Canuck if it matters.
Nobody? Then I'll give a bit more detail in hopes it will pique some interest...
The basic idea is to have a company that researches best practices for land rehabilitation. It would buy brownfield, clearcut or tax sale land and hold it while remediating it, then sell it for profit. Early investors could donate their land to the organization as a tax shelter in exchange for permanent rights to live on it, or land they've inherited but aren't using in exchange for having someone manage it.
Once a few successful 'flips' are completed, the rehabilitation could become a course that provides an alternative revenue stream.
Like I said, very early stages of an idea. would be good to hear the pitfalls from /biz, I can always count on you guys to be honest.

I stopped using gas years ago to switch to electricity only. The gas company closed and capped the meter for me as well.
Fast forward to 2016 some dude from the gas company says since we havent used it for like 10 years they need to excavate and cap the main pipeline underground for "safety resasons". I found this ridiculous. What if I want gas again in the future or sell the house to someone who does?
Is this a scam? Do they have legal right to do this? Wouldnt this bring my property value down?
Ive posted on here and DIY since these boards are the closest themed boards to my inquiries
>>1035141
IDK but I can guarantee whoever does know is going to ask where you live. Laws tend to vary based on location.
Hey /biz/, first time poster here.
I've been lurking the board for awhile now. I was hoping you all could give me some general financial advice.
After reading for awhile, I understand there is no get rich quick scheme, which I already knew that. And that's not what I'm looking for.
I'm just looking to pad for my retirement mostly. But extra cash would nice too.
My assets :
IT job 40 hours a week with a lot of down time to possibly do other things?
37K in retirement funds
4K spending
House
No kids
No wife or ex wives
No drug habits other than nice coffee :)
I plan on selling my home since it's too big and I dont need the room. And that would be extra couple of hundred a month.
And I'm planning on putting 30% of my income toward retirement (currently 10%)
And I thought on taking another job for extra income. I don't need need it because I'm not living check to check, but thats when a 2nd job would be better....when you dont have to have it. But that's just a thought as well.
Is there anything I can do during the week during down time for extra?
Any general advice you can give for my situation?

How much do you have in your emergency fund?
Do you have any outstanding debts?
Does everyone in your family have health insurance? Life?
Is your retirement in taxable/non-taxed funds? Do you have both a personal IRA and 401k for example? HSAs?
How much discretionary income do you have?
>>1035162
>How much do you have in your emergency fund?
I dont have one yet. One of the goals I plan to fix this year.
>Do you have any outstanding debts?
My home, which is why I'm going to sell it.
Does everyone in your family have health insurance? Life?
I have no family. I have health and life insurance. My mom/dad/sibling all have insurance.
>Is your retirement in taxable/non-taxed funds?
In both, but the overwhelming part is in a traditional account. But I have been building a roth account.
>Do you have both a personal IRA and 401k for example? HSAs?
Personal IRA. No HSA or 401k
How much discretionary income do you have?
Good question, I haven't really done a budget. My home payment is 20% of my monthly income. Other than utilities, I don't pay anything.
I would say 300-400 a month, but I plan on increasing the percentage I contribute a month.
>>1035175
As far as getting an extra job, that is based on your work life balance, so however you want to do that.
Your investment goals right now:
Priority #1: Creating an emergency fund. An online high-interest savings account would be pretty decent. You can get up to 1% interest which is low, but these are times we're living in.
Most people would recommend you keep a minimum of 3-6 months of total living expenses. Being solo however, you might want more.
I have enough in my emergency fund for one full year of living expenses plus the full amount of my health insurance out-of-pocket maximum. That way if anything went sideways, I'd be covered. You can always put some of your money in short-term CDs, but it isn't really worth it right now due to their low rates.
If you are selling your home, then I'd recommend renting. Yeah, you don't grow home equity, but you also aren't tied down. You also don't have recurring taxes, repairs, etc. which you are always on the hook for. This also depends on you as a person, as having been in college loan debt before, I won't buy anything on credit, even vehicles or housing.
Really, it seems like you are on the right path. Just do the match for any business IRA, fill your emergency fund, then determine what kind of investor you are.
I'm quite conservative, so I split money between stock/bond indexes and secure investments like CDs/interest-annuities etc., so that I'll have a million to retire regardless, stocks being gravy
How to find a partner for a business? We're talking about 50% share each type of business.
Obviously, I can't just go to social networking sites for that. For someone to be a good partner, you have to establish a sense of friendship and trust with them, before any venture could even be considered. You have to have common values, interests and goals.
Should I be looking for someone from my past and attempt to contact them, or instead search for partners in the present and in the future? This kind of business requires knowledge of programming, so I can't just let random friends (even the good ones) to be my partners.
>>1035125
University friends that you made in class or through relevant elective classes, or they can point you acquaintances they know who have similar personalitys.
Stop being such an anti social faggot OP you already made potential business partners in college or at least created the makings of a social web if you didn't squander your time.
The degree isn't the most important thing friends its all the contacts you make.
>>1035125
> business partner
not a good idea. things work best with a sole owner and employees.
If you have a good idea, work it, own it, and then hire someone to work for you.
No reason to fracture power unneccesarily in business.
Only when the business really takes off and large sums of money are shoved under your nose, then maybe you can let people buy into ownership of it. but even then, hold 51% or more.

Is getting your CDL one of the only fields that is not oversaturated. I see ads on craigslist very often for NEW CDL drivers wanted. Some jobs even offer to pay for your CDL.
>>1035120
I just obtained my CDL last June. I drove a flatbed for two months until I could not take it anymore. It's a dirty, backbreaking job, and you give up your whole life to be a trucker.
But to answer your question, yes it is extremely easy to get a trucking job. Pay has risen the past few years, so a new driver could make around 55K. But you have to consider why there are so many trucking jobs, because most people are not will to give up the semblance of a normal life, away from the friends and family, for a paycheck.
To me it was not worth the sacrifice. I get payed much less now but, I'm home every night, I get weekends off, and actually have a life. Maybe if I was 50 I would think about trying it again. But I could never trade my youth for such a meager salary.
>>1035213
My friend who is a high school drop out was making $80k a year working for a Budweiser distributor. Worked 8-10 hour days, home every night.
>>1035120
Being a trucker fucking sucks, though.
Why would you want to do that to yourself?
sup /biz/,
I'm an IT engineer, and in IT field wearing shirt with jeans and shoes classes as business wear.
Therefore I decided to switch my career and applied for an internship program, that delivers me university up to masters and work in software engineering for business.
The company is big, and they say dress code is business smart.
They only called me yesterday saying that I will skip all interview procedures and go from level 1 to level 8(assessment center) on Monday.
So my combinations are:
Dark navy suit, well fitted, because old and I grew up in size(think fitted suit is not acceptable, even that it looks good, it's tight)
Light navy suit (like travel or autumn suit), that fits me perfectly,
black suit, but jacket is too small now, as I grew up in my last program, so I could wear like black shoes black trousers and a knit jumper dark blue navy jumper on top of white shirt?
which would you go for?

How to get a "big picture" of the market you're trying to enter?
I would be more concerned about your own big picture first.
If you want to get into the market you should wait for an Opportunity.
You can invest in Stocks, Metals or Property.
If the Market Crashes - Buy
Metals are on the way down - When they hit bottom Buy
When the Derivative bubble bursts property will be super cheap - Buy
Then then hold and grow your cash position till an opportunity presents itself.
Sup' /biz/nessmen,
I got an interview for an M&A IB internship position.
What is a safe bet to wear?
I kinda have a dilema because I only have either an unfit white shirt or a fit white shirt with light blue stripes to wear. What's best?
Also business clothing general I guess.
try wallstreetoasis
>>1035076
Check the website for photos of what the key people wear.
Wear whatever's closest to that.
>>1035076
Take the white shirt to a tailor. Nothing is stopping you. Also wear a blue tie, any other colour could send the wrong signals.
Hey /biz/, let's say I have an agreement with a strip club owner who allows me to do a pay-per-view online streaming of his dancers. Now let's say I collect the funds via Paypal and also distribute the strip club owner's cut via Paypal.
Would Paypal's TOS fuck me over?
>>1035017
Read their TOS or call them and ask
>>1035017
Yes. Use bitcoin

i was thinking of operating via a credit card processor. However, the risk of chargebacks concern me.
Bitcoin is too shadowy to be an appealing method of payment to the average Joe
Do you know this man?
This is Luis Stuhlberger. He has been historically better than 99% of the world's asset managers. His asset (Verde Asset) averaged 20% yearly since its creation and had to stop accepting new money otherwise it would explode.
The man is practically Midas.

Hey /biz/ I want to create a platform for people to create things. I'm not exactly sure what but I noticed these types of businesses do really well in this day and age.
