You'll go broke even if oil does go up. Leveraged ETFs are strictly for trading. Buying and holding will chew up your investment as it fluctuates. Read. Next time do some fucking research before you start shopping for that Lamborghini.

Hey /biz/, not sure if this is the plac for this but has anyone here ever worked on a Barge or Commercial Ship before? Im coming off the military and I already miss being at sea but I don't want to do it with all the military bullshit. Does anyone know what its like to work on a ship? The pay? What the day to day life and the usual ports?

Any stories and advice would be appreciated

There have been a couple of very popular threads on this in the past, though I can't remember whether or not they were on /biz/ or not.

I think the one I have in mind was on /trv/ and that was about 2 years ago.

There's a lot of chipping and painting involved, from what I can remember.
>>
>>1042410
Maybe we can get another one rolling, maybe its in the archives? I'm really interested and considering continuing working at sea but as Ive learned from being in the military not everything is what it seems.
>>
>>1042412
Sure, sure. I actually have the aforementioned thread saved on an old HD somewhere, but I'm out of the country.

Anyway, it seems like a good job as long as you don't care about having a family. I'd consider doing it but I like having a gf.

Hi, I'm a college tomato salesmen looking for a the best way to keep track of my tomato sales, revenue, budgets, and of course profits. Any suggestions for apps, or software such as excel or "money monitor" for IOS? Would these methods be too insecure?
Perhaps a traditional tomato salesmen approach with a little black book would suffice?

Also general Tomato salesmen thread.

I was a tomato salesman but I expanded my market into dicksucking territory. In my off months when I can't many tomatoes I proceed to suck cocks for $1-4 each depending on how long it takes them to ejaculate(since this cuts into my earning potential).

So far I've made $314,000 just from my dicksucking endeavours.
>>
>>1033962
If you spat the ejaculate into a container and sold it to spermbanks you would be able to increase revenues by tenfold. Rookie.

Regardless i'm still wondering how you keep track of your monies.

> living on grannies sofa when I'm not in the dorms, "technically homeless"
> first job is my work-study joke of a job I work 8 hours / wk for $9/hr after my full-time class schedule, which allows me to make up to $2k/yr for the academic year, so... yeah, barely anything

So, I was thinking today I'm probably going to have to file taxes for the first time in my life, and I don't even know where to start googling for direction.

Wat do?

When you get a w2 from the school (the employer) youll file an "ez 1040" on the irs.gov website. It will be free because you made so little. Its very self explanatory
>>
>>1033765
http://www.unitedway.org/myfreetaxes

I've been using this program for a few years and it's pretty good. Sponsored by walmart and united way.

that or just go to your local library and pick up a 1040ez form and guide. learn the system and until you get a lot of money you don't need to worry that much. it's really not that hard or big a deal.

all right.

1 person operation to start until I get things off the ground but questions like
How much should be in reserves, how much I should be expecting to pay on top of initial capital and cost of goods. When to hire a new employee, when to seek out financing and how much based on current and projected revenue. Incorporation, legal steps to start.

Anything along those lines could help

Hey /biz/, I work in the lending industry and a question popped into my mind.

How does lending work in other countries? Specifically Europe and Asia.

How does credit reporting work in these places? Do they have bureaus like we do? In a place like Europe where people may often finance items in countries they may not live in, how does the underwriting process work?

I look forward to hearing specifically from those of you living or who have lived in these places.

Same as USA I suppose, however Europeans hate lending, it is not our culture to owe someone.
>>
>>1033745
Britain on the other hand seems a bit different. More American with our credit utilisation.

>>1033745
Surely people take out loans. I can't imagine that people don't at least take out mortgages or the occasional car loan. If not, even a simple charge account.

Hello, after the recent decline in the stock market, I figured I should try to learn as much as I can about investing over the next few years to mitigate my losses as much as possible. I want to start out using basic finance ratios, none of that chart prediction shit, I just want the basics and Its annoying to go through a ton of websites to find industry averages and the correct numbers for quarters and stuff. So, I was wondering if any of you could recommend some type of free software or website that shows basic things like the following:
1. Debt Ratio
2. Cash Flow
3. P/E ratio, and industry average pe ratio
4. Price/sales ratio, and the industry average
5. Current ratio

Thanks for the links, I really appreciate it and I'm watching it now. And I actually got the intelligent investor for christmas and Security analysis, so im looking forward to reading both of those. But I was wondering if theres a site that has extensive financial information about each company relative to their industry, obviously quarter by quarter. Anything like that exist that isnt yahoo finance?
>>
>>1034218
yes, gurufocus.com

you can get a lot of information in the free version, although the premium one for $300 is really great but not essential. It is the site that is used in the video I posted last.

You have $2000 to invest for the next 1-4 years. Where do you place your money /biz/?

2k is not a lot of money to invest for 1-4 years. 10k is not a lot of money to invest for 1-4 years. 6% return on 10k over 4 years leaves you with just 12624.77.

You sound young. My suggestion, go take a memorable road trip with some friends. Start dollar cost averaging when you get your first professional job.

kido its very illegal, don´t do something stupid.
the government has very bright people that find stupid people like you and bans them.

So just walk away and pretend nothing happened and never search about it again.

Good morning /biz/, still rather new here but I've been lurking and trying to devour as much information as I possibly can. I have a couple of basic questions that I can't seem to find answers to yet.

So I'm 23 and this is the first year I've ever contributed to my Roth IRA, prior to this I haven't done ANY saving. I think that sadly most of my generation won't have the same realization that I am having at the moment. I'm in a desperate scramble to make up for lost time investing and saving. From what I understand, things like Roth IRA's and 401k's are what you want to be maxing out before you put your money towards anything else. I set up automatic payments based on how much I'd need to contribute to hit the 5500 dollar limit every year, but this year I only have 1100 dollars in there and won't hit that 5500 before the end of the fiscal year unless I use a lot of extra cash.

I'll be going on a deployment in a month or so, and I'm considering selling my car. I owe 5,000 on it right now and I think I should get at least that much for selling it. Would I be better off paying the last little bit of debt I owe? Or should I use that to max out my contribution for the year since it's a one time only thing???
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1033585
Late response -- but I would value paying off debt before all else. Don't let that cripple you, and if you're going off to deployment, that might fuck with you when you come back. Leave with a clean slate free of debt; the other stuff can wait.
>>
>>1033687
Thanks for the feedback, I'd love to have the little bit of debt I have be gone, but i just keep wondering if it's better to try to scrounge up enough for my IRA before spring because I won't be able to max that contribution for 2015 ever again, you know?

I guess if the % rate on my debt is higher than the return I'd be getting on the IRA I should go ahead and get myself debt free first.

Quarterly reports of the stocks you're interested in
Absolutely nobody unless you are distrustful by nature.

Groupthink is the reason people buy high and sell low. As Buffet says, you want to insulate yourself from public opinion so that your decisions are based on logic.
>>
>>1035184
And Buffet is right. Think of it as buying into the company, and not riding some trend you expect to happen. Knowing the market factors and the company, you can invest with all you need.
>>
Step 1: Create google notification for the word "china" on market websites
Step 2: Buy call options on VIX

Works everytime.
