Hey /biz/, I just need a little reassurance by people who have an educated opinion. Yes this is about mutual funds and yes I know its not a loss untill I sell. But I've lost around 1,000$ this month in the span of 20 days. I put my life savings into a tsfa, and now I've lost more money then I put in. I don't understand the concept. The market fluctuates, so why shouldn't I just take out the money I have left and put it in a savings account...I'd have more money if I just left it in my regular account. I'm canadien if that helps. I can't imagine the dollar not falling much lower and god knows how bad the economy will get. 2008 bad maybe..
>>1053791
Because you beginner. Investments like these aren't for fucking 20 days. They're for 1-5 years. You already bought, now sit on your ass and wait till the economy goes up and collect your 1-10%.
>>1053795
but the economy is gaurenteed to go down? how do I know canada will ever recover in a substantial way? could i just pull out the majority of the money, because id rather not lose any money then gain?
>>1053804
You definitely could, and just lower your head and bow out like everyone else in life. You don't invest if you don't want to take risks.
>work in office
>everyone has mortgages/car loans/student loans to pay
>everyone has kids to put through college and wives to pacify
>everyone eats out daily and can't imagine life without the latest consumer electronics
>everyone has massive health insurance bills that can only be covered thanks to their employer HMO
...
>everyone is constantly on edge, desperately trying to appear busy
>everyone is terrified that anything they say or do will be reported and used against them, from political stances to absolutely anything about their personal lives
>everyone is terrified that they'll lose their livelihood over something as inconsequential as uttering the word 'fuck' in front of someone else, including my own manager in front of me, some fucking nobody peon, so they say it in hushed tones behind closed doors like gradeschool children
they extol capitalism and yet it's as if they think the nkvd will come in the middle of the night, it's really very sad
and this is why
>don't take on debts
>don't volunteer for unnecessary obligations
>save up all that you can and keep it for rainy days
>find fulfillment in frugality, even if it means being smug about consumerism and whatever
>eat healthy and stay active to minimize expenses in the long run
this is in response to people on here who say things like
>the point of money is to spend it
>why save up all this money to be old and not use it when you still can
and so on
can't really enjoy life when you wear a mask 40 hours a week

Unless you look into ERE and learn how to save money, you will never be able to have enough money while also working an easy job, allowing you little stress and lots of money per month that you are saving.
The middle class is mostly tradesmen or white-collar workers who make something like $45K-$100K and have no idea how to use money wisely. Doctors are awfully guilty of this. Make friends with any doctor, and you'll realize that they haven't a clue how to manage their money and are actually in debt, all while making $150K-$350K because they bought a BMW, a Lexus, and a $1.5M home.
You can live on a job that pays $12/hr part-time that requires no education or skills. You just have to know how to optimize every single need you have in your life before your money touches it.
It would be amazing to be able to free-lance from your laptop, traveling around the world with no boss, wife, or loans to deal with. I'm still trying to figure out how to do it. Free-lancing is a bit funky.

Let me guess OP - IBM?
Have you ever asked yourself, why do you want to get rich? Has this goal become your first priority in life?
Rethink it once again: your time on this planet is VERY limited. You are probably somewhere in your twenties right now, well, maybe you will gain wealth by the time you are 30 or 40. But is it worth all the efforts? Do you really want to spend your youth persuing that goal?
If you live in the first world, you can do pretty much anything you want. Become a musician, an athlete, a writer, an alpinist. You can do something with your life rather than trying to earn money. It's a proven fact that it does not affect happines after you are middle class. No matter how rich would you be, if you're not poor, it's all the same.
Yep, you'll have your freedom. But do you know what you'd do with it?
>>1053350
Don't think about it too much because you will become depressed.
after you understand that money isn't worth the effort, you understand that NOTHING!!! worth the effort, you will just sit in your room all day playing vidya

Uh what?
You speak of freedom as if musicians and artists get discounts on needed goods. They dont
Rich = free
I grew up in a 1.3 million dollar home and now I'm living out of my car. I will do WHATEVER it takes to surpass that and as young as possible so I can get back to being a human.
Hey all, I make $65k/year and have a savings of $30k just sitting there. I have no debts, no car payment, my credit card balance is always sub $500, I pay $1000 in rent (only because its close to work), and my internet and water are free. My expenses are fairly low all things considered.
I've been curious as to how I should be investing my money now that my paranoid self has secured enough of a savings to feel comfortable departing with some of it.
Any suggestions to a /biz/ newbie?
If you don't mind me asking what you do for a living? From what you wrote seems like you are living well! Good on you anon!

How does it feel knowing you've been duped by degenerate media to fund a shadow front (the stockmarket) that not only doesn't exist, but has zero actual ramifications in reality?
I bet you all think you've been getting actual returns on investments that are literally fucking this country over.
I feel fine, actually.
Why?
>>1053495
You do realize the stock market is a sham right?
>>1053504
Why is it a sham? Because you read a troll thread on /pol/?
hey /biz/ I'd like your thoughts on the text below as it a big ongoing problem in my family...
>parents bought house in 1984 £30,000 mortgage
>both been working full time
>2016 still £60,000 left to pay on the mortgage
what went wrong?
They bought at the top of a housing bubble
they weren't paying their loan down. looks the opposite actually.
>>1053397
>>1053400
I should have explained more but I didn't want to bore people. There are a lot of factors as to why they're both nearly 60 have worked 30 years a piece and don't have a dime to show for it.
The reason why is because my parents didn't budget together, my mum kept her money and my dad kept his which isn't what my dad wanted but my mother is a very overpowering narcissistic type of person so here are some things that happened along the way
>parents poor had no money back in 1984 just your regular working people
>bus they used to get in the morning went past a private school
>my dad told my 3rd world mother "this is where rich people go" when she'd ask him what that facility/building is
>her stubbornness and narcissism flared up at this and she was adamant of sending the first child there despite not being able to afford it
>lies to school that only the father is working and she is stay at home so they can get money off the fees
>elder brother gets into the school
>school finds out when they tried the same thing with my sister the 2nd child, so they have to pay the money they owe
>still with overtime my mother would earn £3.2k after tax and my dad is a bus driver he gets around £2.2 after tax
>mother has HORRIBLE spending habits, no care for money at all
>had to get sister married for some reason so they took a loan out on the house in 2008 when only £18,000 was left to pay on the mortgage (smart move right?) just so they can have some extravagant wedding
>2012 dad comes into some inheritance money approximately 30k, mum goes on power trip and says we must build big house back home
>so spineless dad goes along with it despite me and my siblings telling them to pay off the mortgage
>they buy a piece of land which is huge and then decide to build a house upon it which they took out another loan on the house for EIGHTY FUCKING GRAND
>dad is paying everything for the house, mortgage is 1.3 a month + the bills so around 1.8 goes out of his pay
If I get a degree in engineering, in particular, EE, will I always have to work for someone else?
Will it not allow starting up my own company / develop my own product?
I wish to start my own company, but it seems business school does not provide any actual skills other than the basics of starting a company.
>>1053352
Getting a degree for wanting to start a business? What drugs are you on? What you need is an apprenticeship and work expirience to get hands on knowledge of your field, EE for example, a business idea is Installation and Comissioning of domestic electronics, you can start your own business but you need expirience, not a degree.
Get an EE degree, then your MBA at nightschool. Or better yet get hired and make the company pay for your night school. Then, work the industry for a while, make money, then if you have a good idea, work a side project.
Starting your own company is ill conceived, especially when you can bypass the 10 years of "software engineering" with an MBA to become an executive. Then just break into VC. It's easier said than done, but an engineer with an MBA is a hot asset, and headhunters will be aware of you.
>>1053643
you're not going to be able to design on your own without a reputable degree
experience isn't enough, you actually need knowledge you won't be able to teach yourself
/biz/ I want to give somebody free life changing advice but I worry if they're too stupid to use it right they'll get damaged and blame me. I don't profit in any way, I just want to help them but It's not my fault if they misuse my advice. Would this disclaimer be good enough if written via email?

God no. Don't invest in real estate right now.
Watch the luxury real estate prices in Denver. (Penthouses and such). They're currently hyper inflated, and when they adjust by about 30% it's a safe time to start investing in real estate and it's derivative instruments.
