The county courthouse database should have an API you could plug into.

Build a program to arrange the data in whatever form is convenient for you.

So, I'd very seriously considered actuarial science until I was told by an adviser that as far as careers goes almost all actuarial jobs are in the largest of cities. That just sounds dreadful. I hate cities. I currently live in a large metropolitan area and remaining here indefinitely sounds like a fate worse than death. I'd prefer a small town, suburb, or rural area. What's a portable career that one could practice almost anywhere that offers a livable wage and job security? One that doesn't involve knee pads preferably.

Thanks.

Any tips for hiring?

I'm right now reading the book "Who: the A Method for Hiring" by Geoff Smart and Randy Street. So far, it's provided a ton of helpful hints, but while inspirational, it's an uphill battle trying to find good help.

This week, someone's put in a two-week notice, and we're now scrambling to find a replacement. I've made job posts on relevant websites and have no significant progress finding someone. Most entry-level schmucks are wholly talentless these days, and some are downright creepy. One guy even showed up at our door uninvited asking to see the boss.

My boss either can't network for shit or simply refuses to, which makes my job much harder.

That all being said, I know some of you have some good hints on how to find the right people. Any/all suggestions appreciated.

What's the job? Is it a retail mcjob, an analyst position for a company, etc? Can you get someone from a consultant firm if you need someone to fill that quickly until you get someone brand new in?

Because if it's a Mcjob (by that I mean no benefits, part time, low wages) you'll just have to expect the shitty applications and high turnover.

Why don't you just ask your colleagues if they have any capable friends or family members to hire?
>>
>>1107585
>Why don't you just ask your colleagues if they have any capable friends or family members to hire?
Currently in the progress of doing that. My boss doesn't have much of a social life, so I'm doing what I can.

I was considering messaging some of our previous hires if they knew anyone who would be interested. Is that kosher?

>retail mcjob
We're looking for manual labor who happen to have brains and brawn. By no means is it a McJob, but it's far from glamorous. It's both indoors and outdoors, the latter using heavy machinery and related equipment.

>One guy even showed up at our door uninvited asking to see the boss

oh gasp, somebody showing initiative? he probably figured it was pointless wasting his time throwing his resume in a bucket for you, at least get better odds just being in person and knowing you'd have a definite no. you sound like a fucking ass.

>manual labor
>being this fucking picky/judgmental

hiring managers like yourself set incredibly unrealistic expectations on people trying to get their foot in the door. jesus, take a damn risk. this isn't a management position. give them a probationary period and just fire them if they can't lift 50 pounds if you're that incompetent at picking people for manual labor.

>Who /gold/ here?

I have a friend who runs a gold and silver store and he lets me buy it at 3% above spot which is better than anything I have found online. I have yet to find anything online where you can buy gold below 5% markup on spot.

I think I'm in favour of leaving the EU, just to get away from all the extra taxation and all the regulations on shit.

>find out that even if 100% of scots vote to stay in EU.. the rest of the UK can still vote us out of EU anyway

I dunno mang. I'm voting to stay in. Hopefully it's an overall no vote due to racist english voters. That way it will trigger a 2nd scottish independence referendum and they will be tasked with producing yet another wave of in/out hypocrisy

End of 2015 I had $500 just to throw around so I invested in AMD at $2.87 a share. I have 174 shares.

Should I sell at $333 and find something else, put more money in while its $1.91 to average down, pull out at the highest point I can and re-buy at a better entry and repeat till making profit... or let it be and watch it?

Wouldn't AMD need to stay afloat to prevent anti trust against nvidia akin to how apple almost bit the bullet back in the day.
>>
Let it ride. AMD is a lose it all or a 10 bagger deal.
>>
Why in the world did you invest in AMD? Admittedly you should be buying when a company's stocks are down, but that is only if there is a reasonable chance that they will recover. In the case of AMD, things are only going to keep going down unless they pull a miracle out of their ass. Honestly I'd just let it sit and see what happens, since it is only $500. Not much to really lose.

Hi biz, retard here.

I live in a third wolrd country which I won't mention for fear of meanies :^(
I'm about to finish a shitty degree in a shitty college and can expect to earn around ~400 USD a month for the rest of my life.

Upside is my parents are aware life here is shitty and told me I can stay at their place as long as I work at anything.

All I want is enough money for a very frugal living, mid-range PC gaming being my only luxury. I don't even want a car, I want a tiny cabin paying as little as possible for anything.

Anyway, as long as I keep living with my parents I hope not to spend a single of my shekels and instead invest it somewhere till my parents die/retirement.

Any investment ideas?

Is this even feasible?

hey /biz/! i hope i came to the right place. im writing an essay for my english class and i need some help. what are the negative effects if California decides to raise their minimum wage to 15/hr. any help would be appreciated

15usd will be san fran minimum wage in 2018.
>>
The effect might not be as noticeable in large cities, due to sales volume, but prices will go up in smaller rural areas. California is too large and diverse a state to be pulling that shit. Liberals don't understand that not everyone lives in San Francisco and New York, and what is good for high density population centers is not always what is good for everyone else.
>>
>>1104647
so if for example, like Compton. if the minimum wage was increased, how will the small business owners, the residents or the poor people be affected?

There is only one country negotiating their membership atm. The United Kingdom.

I think your best bet would be to invest in stocks in areas that have the potential to replace London in the EU as a banking sector. So Paris or Frankfurt?

In the grand scheme of things, UK leaving EU seems like a huge financial loss for everyone to me though, so I'm pretty skeptical

I want to have a job right after I graduate. Is an economics degree worth it?

I'm not sure what you expect anyone to tell you.. Yes?
Get experience. Don't be apathetic.
I got a job with an economics degree locked in 4 months before graduation
>>
Idk why I asked. My parents want me to go to accounting but it's boring as fuck. Economics seems more interesting
>>
>>1107364
That's because accounting IS boring as fuck. Unless you are in a higher position at a big company you will do the same thing every day for the rest of your life.

I guess you are from the US. I studied Economics and Business Administration here in Europe and we get taught accounting and all the other stuff as well, it's very easy and nice if you have some knowledge but not my cup of tea.

Economics is one of the most popular things to study here, and you can still land a decent job even with a not so good grade, I don't know of anybody, who studied with me, who doesn't have a job, all of them got one very fast without problems despite them mostly scoring average grades..

Don't do what your parents want you to, unless it's what you want as well, do whatever you feel is interesting to you and gives you good job prospects.

What are some good intro reads on economic stuff?

It's not easy, but it's certainly not hard. You just need to try harder and smarter than 70% of people just like it's always been. How many hours this week did you put into learning new skills or mastering something? How many hours did you put into researching market trends to find the least saturated employment fields? How many hours did you put into applying to better positions? Are you eating properly, exercising, and sleeping right?

The only reason success is "easy" is because most people don't work hard and smart. Plenty will work 60 hour weeks at McDonalds but few will put time into improvement.

Hey /biz/

First time on this board, I hope this is not the wrong place to ask - it's money related so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I found this coin in my wallet last weekend and I don't recognize it. It was like given to me as change by mistake, since it looks vaguely similar to a coin we use.

It's roughly 2-3 cms in diameter, could anyone identify it?
