I want to buy some land and/or a house somewhere. Vermont or Maine would be nice, but anywhere will do. How & where do I find something like 10 acres for $10,000 cash? Should I buy outright cash, or take out a bunch of mortgages on little properties? I'm trying to stretch my money.

Time travel back to the late 1800s.
Hey boys, I've been using Kraken for my ethereum transactions. I like that I can convert directly into USD, but I've heard that it's unreliable and the interface is tricky.
Plus deposits take a few days.
Is it a good site? What do you guys think?

Figure out Poloniex. Kraken seems to have hosting issues a lot.
I just invested $200 on the bet that Jeb will be below 5% on Feb 29
Oh shit RCP still has him at 5.8%
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/2016_republican_presidential_nomination-3823.html
did I just throw away 200?
Its not too late I can still sell back
I feel kind of stupid, on jumping on "Free money" so quickly. The only reason I found the Jeb bet is because it was on today's biggest movers going up 18 cents today. Meaning it was previously at 93% certainty. And if you read the comments, there is a lot of sweating. The bet has basically come down to RCP methodology rather than JEb's actual standings.
I can sell right now and lost $12.5 and toss it to the price of a life experience, look before you leap, no free lunch. Or hang on and believe sanity will prevail and a guy not running can't poll above 5%. Only 5 days left.
https://www.predictit.org/Contract/1987/Will-primary-polling-give-Bush-at-least-5-on-February-29#openoffers
18% is a significant fall in a single day. But its not like its crashed. So most betters still think theres an overwhelming chance he'll be below 5%, but this wasn't quite "Free money".
You guys are financial pundits. Should I sell my shares right now and take the small loss?
You do realize that Jeb is no longer running, right?
>>1109683
Thats why I thought it would be free money. But its not, since we're really betting on what RCP editors will do
>>1109646
Any advice guys?
What is the best job to get if you want to be live at home and have lots of free time?
I'm not talking about earning a lot of money, just enough to live a bit comfy and it would be nice if it was stable enough so I don't have to worry about getting fired or losing my income.
>But that dosen't exist anon
Okay, what is closest to that goal?

Get some comft low-stress part time job. Like in a small store
How are most congressmen multi-millionaires when their salary is only 174,000 dollars?
Corruption most foul
>>1109480
Corruption is a nasty word. But yes, doing favors for certain interest groups gets you big time cash.
$174,000 is way too much for a congressman.
It should be $60,000.
Do any of you buy things cheap, fix them up, and resell them?
Things like furniture, cars, or electronics especially.
I am looking to do that for furniture, but I like to hear some input if anyone else has done it before.
>>1109266
I used to buy toys missing parts and large lots of parts, then sell the complete sets for a fair bit of money. But then that dried up when people started thinking parts were worth as much as the complete set.
>>1109266
I've never seen much money in this in any regard. Even cars.
The only thing I have seen work is guys that know how to fix phones.
> get broken Iphone for $100
> fix it
> Sell it for $400

I do it. I specialize in mid centruty modern furniture. All the hipsters want it now. Go to thrift store, junk store, auctions, and Sundays for estate sales.
Use CL to familiarize yourself with local asking prices for said furniture.
In Austin, TX, a small mid century modern chest of drawers can go for $235. You can find then for 45 to 95. Smear dark Citrus Shield wax on it and it looks very nice.
My best sale was finding a Witco "Tiki" dresser for $65 and selling it to a well known Austin mcm seller for $750 later that day. Stuff like that happens every 24 mos.
I sell 20 dressers a year plus a lo of lamps, desks, chairs.
Non-mid century stuff can be patched and sold for 100% mark up minimum.
Use Youtube to learn how to paint / stain certain woods correctly.
I've never met any thieves in the used furniture biz.
A million new families a year are created in the US. They will all need dressers etc.
I have a day job and this sort of furniture work refreshes my mind and is very interesting.
Pic related. It's the Witco .
Am I at a disadvantage if I don't go to business school?

bumping for answer to this I'm 20. Can I learn everything I need to off the internet/books?
>>1109238
yes, but you will always be the looser without degree
>>1109238
Yeah, you can and you wouldn't waste money, but, they are going to look for someone with a degree
Do you have a degree and are talking about a masters, or, do you mean you are working at an unskilled-semi skilled profession?

Investing in TV and Film companies, is it a smart move?
I can sense whenever a movie's gonna flop and when it won't, is it a good idea to put my money into some of these companies prior a movie release?
>>1108868
ABSOLUTE
>>1108868
A movie doing good doesn't mean a film studio is doing good. Same with a movie doing bad. Film always seemed like a shitty investment to me.
>>1108868
Due to the fact that unlike anything else, media can flop or succeed for next to no reason, they're volatile.
I mean, Uwe Boll made a lot of money directing shit movies.
Redpill me on consultants. How many of these information spinners are just parasites taking advantage of people not knowing the subject they get hired to spout bullshit about?
>selling your knowledge and experience is wrong
>>1108824
It's not about that. It's about you in the role of the consumer having any sort of guarantee that the service you purchase is worth the money.
>>1108819
Ok. What people don't seem to understand is, that the same way that you have temp-agencies for cleaners, secretaries, or whatever, you also have temp-agencies for skilled labor like accountants (accounting firms) and middle management (consultancies). Most of the work that consultants do is just glorified temping for MBAs. They are hired for a short period from outside of the company, because no one inside has time to sit down and think about a particular problem. It's not really that weird.
How can this board overcome being a quarantine with no sticky/quarantine threads?
There are no other banter oriented finance communities that take up activities together on the internet.
Would a /biz/chan basically just die?
Bump, this is what a non shit thread looks like guys. Try breathing it in.
Stop bumping your thread. This is a slow board. And your thread is shit. I dont even understand what you were trying to accomplish here, OP.

I was trying to make this board less shit. You shouldn't be linking somebody else to reddit if you don't know what altchans are.

A dollar invested in ETH is a dollar invested in the kremlin and Putin's coke fund
I'm a year and a half away from graduating as an accountant but I don't think I'll make it. I'm struggling with the material (because I'm a lazy procrastinator who is disinterested in the subject matter of accounting). I'm thinking about dropping out even though I know that if I pushed myself, I could graduate and become a CPA.
Would I be making a mistake if I drop out and pursue things that I'm actually interested in? In other words, I want you to give me a list of reasons why accounting is a bad field to get into. What are the future prospects of the career? Is AI going to cut a considerable amount of accounting jobs in the near future?
I understand this is more of a /adv/ post than a /biz/ one but I really want people who have a thorough knowledge of what accounting to give me pointers.
Its boring as fuck
Go fiscalist
I'm in the same position as OP. On probation already. Probably gonna kicked out of my program this semester.
Fuck accounting. It's the most boring and tiring shit ever. You have to be majorly autistic to even tolerate this shit.
>>1106642
>should I pursue something I'm interested in
Like what? Activities that cannot and will not bring you enought money to be self-sustaining (not counting charity) is, at best, a hobby.
>why is accounting a bad field to go into?
Accounting is a man made science, its not like natural science that it intuitively makes sense. It doesnt make sense some of the time. Some of the rates are put arbitrarily and change as political parties get votes for lower/higher taxes etc.
The documentary that made me stay in Accounting was this: "Tax Free Tour".
I believe the jews on this board purpusefully say accounting is boring so they keep the money for themselves. Anyone in accounting who went far enough, knows how big a deal accounting can get.
>will AI replace accountants?
Bookkeppers yes, not CPAs, investigators, tax lawyers, specialists, etc because, like law, some of the high tier accounting is very judgement based.
the big 4 basically control the world
Why does the "I'm smart but lazy" meme exist? I always hear everyone say it at my University. Might as well say you're skinny but fat as well.
because college has convinced people that if you get good grades you're smart. and "understanding the material" in some people's minds means that they are smart. the fact they don't do the work and therefore do not get good grades, but do in fact "understand the material" gives them the impression that they are smart, but also lazy.
in reality nobody is smart.
>>1106403
almost nobody.
>>1106387
Smart people aren't lazy.
