To the guy who posted about possibly buying a Bitcoin ATM, I had a great idea a while ago.

I am currently writing Bitcoin ATM software whose hardware can be built for under $75. It is expandable, but, for all intents and purposes, this is the minimum:
Raspberry Pi ($5)
CH-926 coin acceptor (~$20, can be used with any country's currency, not just USD)
Way to connect RPi to the internet ($7-10)
16x2 screen ($10)
Casing (free to $5)

Nice addons:
BV20 bill acceptor ($100, can be used with any country's currency, not just USD)
NFC reader (~$10-15)

With these estimates, $50 is the max that'll need to be spent to build it yourself. Ideally, this would be sitting on a counter and loose change can be put into the machine, scan the Bitcoin address, and be done in under 30 seconds. The software isn't finished yet, but I need to add a couple more security measures, debug, and tie all of the loose ends together. It is FOSS.

What does /biz/ think?

it's a pretty good idea, if anyone used it.

who the hell are you going to market it to? Who is going to buy this sort of thing?
>>
I might make these in bulk, but I want to see if this idea has some traction.
>>
>>1381164
Literally anybody who runs a store. They can just keep this on the counter. There is an external program that needs to run to keep the Bitcoin wallet filled, but that shouldn't be that hard.

I know I'm not the first person here to say this or make this post, but help me understand something.

You go to a casino with $1000
You go to a table and you bet $100 on red every single time.
If you lose the bet, you double it, so the bet after the first loss is $200, bet after the 2nd loss is $300 etc.
Obviously red/black is 50/50 however, the does not eliminate the chance of there being 7+ wins out of 10, as overall within 100 bets it will balance at 50/50

So why isn't this a valid strategy to get some money? Surely its better than mindlessly gambling on stocks like some people here do, no?

Because eventually a loss is so gargantuan it wipes out your capital. It doesn't work unless you have the monopoly of note issue.

Canadian here, why don't more people invest to own a Tim Hortons, yes I know you need 1.5 mil to own but it's better than buy a house here for 1 mil. Plus they make so much money in prime locations. For Americans, Tim Hortons is like your Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.

How much profit would you take home every year? Assuming you have a manager run everything for you, it would just be a passive income source right?

So, the restaurant business. Is it a bad route to go? I would like to be an owner of a small food joint in the city (Chicagofag here). I know the failure rate for a restaurant in its first year is like 90-95% but fuck it, I think it sounds like a great life.

Am I wrong here?

If you're not into robinhood - http://www.stockbrokers.com/offers
> How is it free?
They invest your unsettled funds after a trade.
It's also pretty basic software.
> When is it coming to my country?
Probably never. They only have plans on an Australian beta ( https://robinhood.com/au/).
> It's been X days, why isn't my account isn't verified yet?
If it takes more than 3 days, try emailing their support. They are very good.
> Is this the right place to pump and dump and/or shill a worthless stock?
No, please go to Stocktwits, Plebbit, or one of our many chat groups.
> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, am I being jewed?
No, that would actually be illegal. Robinhood graphs are just shit and only show you an average, not-really-realtime price. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.
> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
thinkorswim is bretty gud if you want to go open a second account with real broker.
Otherwise you should be using Yahoo/Google finance or even Stocktwits for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.
>How do I git gud?
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/candlestick.asp?layout=infini&v=5F&orig=1&adtest=5F

> If I have Robinhood do I need to worry about 'Free riding' violations?
No, its not applicable for limited margin accounts (instant), and if you don't have instant, RH won't let you buy with unsettled funds
> Can I use Robinhood on my PC?
Yes, download an android emulator. Setup is extremely easy. http://www.memuplay.com/

Hey /biz/,

I'm currently in college for finance, but my end goal is to hopefully get involved with politics. Nothing crazy like president. What would be the best career path for me as far as meeting the right people, getting a high salary for funding, and highest success rate?

I was thinking about doing a MBA, but I'm not sure currently.
Real estate? Seems safe to me

Thanks, I know this is borderline /adv/, but it seems more fitting here

I recently just switched to public policy from finance. I'm managing a state rep. campaign for a republican candidate. Try and get involved with you county government and work your way up. Since working as a campaign manager I have met many reps and senators from the state and our primary isn't even over. The only way to move up is to network within a party, because inevitably if you decide to run for some type of office you will need their support and if they know you and how you are as a person they may even ask you to run.
>>
>>1381253
Thank you. Did you find it hard to get that position? Also, do you plan on graduate school?

It shows every single sign of a pyramid pump and dump from the devs, you'd be an idiot to buy this and not expect to lose all your money. The devs are spamming it on poloniex with 1000s of newly created accounts too, don't buy into the hype.

I have an idea of a business is like to create, based on helping aspiring writers to develop, market, and publish their work. I myself want to be a writer. Whenever I was in school, I was thinking if my time could be better spent reading literature or writing.

I studied English for 3.5 years, and business for my last semester. Because I switched majors, I don't have a degree. I don't know when I would be done. I'm not sure if I want to go back. My job would only be a way to live while I write and develop my business. I don't care if I have a degree or not. I just want to write and have my business succeed eventually. I'd be fine working as a salesman or in a trade business.

My family is very upset with me. I'm not sure if going back would be a wise use of time or money. Will I learn something I need? Or should I continue practicing my writing? I don't know yet. I only want to succeed by my own definition, not theirs. They may be confusing their view of success with my own. To them trade school is like a slap in the face. They almost take me not having a degree as an insult. I don't know what is best for me anymore.

Finish the English degree, learn business stuff on your own. Forget about the business degree, undergrad business is shit anyway and you don't want to spend more time on undergrad.
>>
>>1380794
Is this just to appease them, or is there a benefit? I stopped studying English because I didn't believe it was useful to spend so much money on these classes. I can study literature and write on my own. How will the degree help me?
