5 days ago stock for the Healthcare Property Investment Inc was around $34.70, but now it is at $37.26 as of me writing this.

I don't know much about the company, but was looking into it because it popped up on S&P 500's Dividend Aristocrats and if I remember correctly it pays around 6.7% dividend, so it is quite good, however I have read predictions on various websites saying it isn't a safe investment, and have yet to do my own research, then suddenly it rises nearly 3 dollars in value in less than a week.

http://www.hcpi.com/
http://ir.hcpi.com/company-overview
http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/HCP?ltr=1

If anybody has info I'd be glad, this could have been a good investment 5 days ago, and I would like to know what triggered it's rise.

Thread: Career Availabity, Buisness & Technology

I've worked with computers as a poor amature for years. I've broken more than 10 computers just trying to learn about the hardware. (I know that's not a good thing.)
I'm young, broke, never had an idea for life and dont know much about computers or the careers around them. I would like to work toward any degree or certification required for a job working with computers.
I've always defaulted to labor for cash and I physically need a different job.
I dont wanna be the guy who puts servers together or mass manufactures hp desktops. I wanna work with the base codes that make everything work.
However I only know of C++ and know nothing about anything else.
I know this may be a bad place for it, but i'm asking for advice in what directions I should take to better understand what I actually want to work towards.

Get very familiar with google OP. I mean it. This is probably the best tip a programmer can give to a beginner.
>>
>>1379256
Why google? basic tutorials?

Where do you think I should start?
I wanna be neo if that summs up my unrealistic goal.

What's your background in programming?

Let's say I inherited $100k. Securities or Real Estate?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1379104
Real-estate backed securities and/or structured notes.
>>
>>1379104
Neither.

Save up a few extra 10K and build a house. Now you are free of the rental/mortgage Jew and don't have to buy overpriced Real Estate.

You can also invest very aggressively 80%+ in stocks because all you need is money for food/utilities. Tough economic times will not affect you much.

Where can I find details regarding fees for ADR stocks? I've been wanting to buy PSMMY (Persimmon) but I haven't been able to find out what the custodial fees are.

Are you in the US?
I hold ADR's from time to time, and I've never heard of these.
They withhold a foreign tax estimate from them, though.
>>
>>1379425

Yes. I've read that it's common practice for ADR holding companies to charge a small fee for each share, but can't find any specifics.
>>
>>1379699
I guess it depends on the security. They tend to take it out of dividends, but mine only shows $63 credited to me, with $6.30 withheld for foreign tax, so nothing else on what I'm holding.
Probably depends on the brokerage, too.

How do I get into pennystock trading? Any good books or video lessons?
Also is there a good penny stock chatroom?

>>
>>1379081
Most traders don't trade penny stocks because:

A) They understand that stocks without exchange listing are illiquid, opaque, and prone to fraud/manipulation.

B) They have more money, so they trade more expensive stocks.
>>
Lurk /rht/
>>
>>1379081
You don't need any books or videos to understand how to trade penny stocks. You buy when there's little interest and wait until it's being pumped via social media. Sell when it gets hyped.

So I have some cash, it's a fairly large amount. It's not from anything illegal. It's just over the last couple years I have saved a lot of money from selling things online via sites like craigslist. I was also given a substantial amount of cash by someone, and I worked for 2 summers. I have it at home in a safe. I don't know why I never took it to the bank gradually over time. I guess I liked seeing and counting it. It felt good. That being said I know for sure it is safer in the bank. But if I take the whole lump sum won't that raise red flags?

Could I deposit the cash weekly in increments of say $5000?

I'm a student and don't want to fill in any paper work or pay any taxes. I have a student account at TD Canada trust if it makes a difference. Thanks.

You have two options, you can either talk to your bank manager about this and see what he/she has to say, or you can talk to the turbo-autist armchair day traders on a subsection of a japanese image board who will probably advise you to buy bitcoin in cash, buy gold or something else just as dumb.

Your choice.
>>
>>1379048

No, no. I'd much rather hear advice from /biz/ autists. I'm not buying virtual currency or gold or anything else. I just want the cash in my bank savings account.
>>
>>1379052
How are you going to do that other than taking cash to your bank? Just phone up the fucking bank and ask what the rules are. If you have gotten the money through legal means then there is nothing to fear.

let say only 1-3 people found out how to generate btc using multiple "bugs", what would happen to the btc market price? btc market cap is v.big.

>>
>>1379004
People already "generate" btc dumbass. How do you think it's made?
>>
>>1379004
When you say "bugs" you mean, a few guys discovered how to collide sha256?

Well, the difficulty would rise accordingly. The network maintains that 2016 blocks will be discovered every 2 weeks. So if you mine 10 blocks, then the miners will fight for the remaining 2006 blocks over the 2-week period.

The more blocks you mine, the more money you'd make. However, if you mine more than 50% of the blocks there will be trouble, because the human consensus will become emotional and the price of bitcoin would likely destabalize.

So if you can collide sha256, then do it sparingly. Just take a handful of blocks. Like 1 or two per day. It's still a ton of money, and no one would ever know.

Now, if you mean to steal bitcoin using a bug of some sort, then you can take it from a dormant address. Look way back in the blockchain for old addresses with thousands of bitcoin. There have been men who've lost millions of dollars because they lost their HDD's, so just take their bitcoin. It'll never get touched anyway, so most likely no one will notice.... unless you steal from, say, Satoshi.

Hi guys, first time posting here but I think it is an appropriate place for my interest. I am rather financially inept, only a step beyond the poverty line, but I've developed a desire to learn more about investing. Although I currently know nothing, I am quite used to reading and I believe it would not take me long to pick it up, so long as my interest remains.

I would love to have some advice and recommendations from those who are familiar with investing. I can assure you that I will take it all into significant consideration as I decide whether this is something that is feasible for me. I believe there is no better motivation for one to learn how to invest well so a continual profit is made than to have suffered the burden of poverty as I have so often. I do not have much capital presently, but I plan to return to work in the fall so I hope to have developed an adequate understanding of how to proceed by then. Thank you in advance for your input!

trade forex first. but dont put in your life savings

put in what you can AFFORD to lose. and youll learn heaps. during the day while your at work or uni youll be thinking about the news and econmic events and the such so you learn fucking heaps.

youll probably lose all that you put in but i think its the best way to learn. like jumping in the deep end

eventually youll learn about other ways to invest like shares and stuff and youll probably switch to that until you know most of what there is to know and then your emotions will negate and youll begin tradeing the hard shit like cryptos and pennys
>>
>>1378779
>while your at work or uni youll be thinking about the news and econmic events
Is this a certainty? I would like to avoid this because although I am interested in succeeding in making a profit through investment, I do not consider it so important to have my thoughts attending to it throughout the day. I was hoping to get to the point where I could check once a day, maybe in the morning and do what is necessary before I left it until the following day.

Also you have to understand I am completely foreign to this. Forex means nothing to me and although I can look it up, I was hoping to receive personal advice that would be more helpful than what I'd find from a simple Google search.

hey
During neurotransmission, ACh is released from the presynaptic neuron into the synaptic cleft and binds to ACh receptors on the post-synaptic membrane, relaying the signal from the nerve. AChE, also located on the post-synaptic membrane, terminates the signal transmission by hydrolyzing ACh. The liberated choline is taken up again by the pre-synaptic neuron and ACh is synthesized by combining with acetyl-CoA through the action of choline acetyltransferase.[17][18][19]

> How is it free?
They invest your unsettled funds after a trade.
It's also pretty basic software.
> When is it coming to my country?
Probably never. They only have plans on an Australian beta ( https://robinhood.com/au/).
> It's been X days, why isn't my account isn't verified yet?
If it takes more than 3 days, try emailing their support. They are very good.
> Is this the right place to pump and dump and/or shill a worthless stock?
No, please go to Stocktwits, Plebbit, or one of our many chat groups.
> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, am I being jewed?
No, that would actually be illegal. Robinhood graphs are just shit and only show you an average, not-really-realtime price. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.
> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
thinkorswim is bretty gud if you want to go open a second account with real broker.
Otherwise you should be using Yahoo/Google finance or even Stocktwits for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.
>How do I git gud?
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/candlestick.asp?layout=infini&v=5F&orig=1&adtest=5F

> If I have Robinhood do I need to worry about 'Free riding' violations?
No, its not applicable for limited margin accounts (instant), and if you don't have instant, RH won't let you buy with unsettled funds
> Can I use Robinhood on my PC?
Yes, download an android emulator. Setup is extremely easy. http://www.memuplay.com/

literally why not?

Student Loans don't give me enough to survive on, as a Full Time Student.

After tuition costs, my student loan spending money for the year is $4,750...Even though my total bills for the year is $14928.

WHAT THE FUCK! If college money was free I'd at least have the full $9,500 that I was given for the year..Still short, but I'd find a way to come up with the extra $5,000.

In a perfect world, full time students should have free college, free housing, and free fucking food, with free public transportation. Do these fucking retarded politicians not understand the immense MONEY BACK that would be given back to the economy, when we get our good jobs with this education?

Literally how am I supposed to survive?

Im pretty sure you can go to any of the various unions or tradeship centers or whatever and look for any trades looking for apprentices.
this is done for free
I think you might have to pay for the classes you do take, but I think most apprenticeships are mostly on the job.

and so far when they say "free community college" most places only offer free community college
1)once
2)only to kids coming out of high school

i mean Im all for free education no matter what but theres still going to be
: "Oh I wish I didn't pick X to get my associates in and now I wasted my free ticket"

though if you just make college free without any sort of loan/grant disbursements it would cut down on all those people going to community college just so they can live off the student loans.
though from a business standpoint they may want to keep those people under the the dark shadow of student loans, becuase who knows what their parents will give them when they croak.
