>>1380739
How old are you? Do you have a credit history? Use your $400 of credit just like you would a debit card; imagine the money immediately deducted from your account, and set up autopay so you never forget to pay your bills.

This will build your credit history over time, open up new credit card offers in the future, and, most importantly, set you up for big purchases like furniture, autos, renting an apartment, or mortgaging a house.

Good luck and buy Trumpcoin.

Let's say you live in California, which has state taxes on capital gains.

You buy a stock, it goes up in value, you sell it. (short/long term doesn't matter)

Does your broker notify California at EOY that you made $xyz in capital gains? How does California know that you owe them tax?

If you buy a stock in California, move to another state, then sell it, does your broker notify both states? Do you pay a tax rate in each state relative to the amount of time you lived there while holding the stock?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1380727
Your broker reports (on form 1099-B, iirc) the transactions that you made, not your profits or losses. You broker doesn't necessarily know what tax treatment you select (FIFO, average cost, etc.) so its not their job to report your gains or losses. They will only say that you bought X shares or sold Y shares.

So if you don't report a gain or loss, the taxing authority is probably going to know that something is missing.
>>
>>1380745
Thanks for the name of the form, seems like that's the right one.

Do you know if they'll issue one to BOTH states if you change states while holding a security and later sell it? I'm planning to move in a few months and I'm curious what will happen next tax season.
>>
>>1380778
I believe (but don't quote me on this) that the broker only sends the 1099 to the IRS. Each state can request copies of the forms from the IRS for its citizens. So any state you file in would potentially have a copy in its database (its all computerized, of course). By the same token, they might also overlook it.

Usually not worth the dice when it comes to tax evasion. The penalties and interest are murder even for small-time stuff.

Is going to university in the US as an international student worth it?

When is a PhD ever financially worth it?
>>

YES
The only reason not to would be because of cost issues, but since that doesn't apply to you, there's no reason you shouldn't.

The CEO reports to the board of directors.

The board of directors is controlled by the shareholders.

CEOs can be and are regularly ousted by the board, and board members are occasionally ousted by shareholder votes.

Hi.
The pointers are out there indicating a financial collapse. Do your best to:
a) Invest in precious minerals
b) Invest in oil stock
c) Hoard bitcoin
d) Empty your retirement funds

e) f357324e89d2df6d98614361cafbcc84

This is it lads, the empire will finally end.
What we fought against was the truth.

Care to elaborate on the pointers?

Because I counter your highly informative post with my own:

Hi
the pointers are out there indicating an economic boom. Do your best to:
a) buy the s&p
b) liquidate funds to buy the s&p on any dips
c) short bitcoin
d) don't listen to retards

This is it lads, the empire will finally reach new heights. 3000 pts s&p by October
>>
>>1380444
Yes, I will.
With all the wars raging on that caused the oil price to stay high, we seem to be in a peaceful time to have oil this low.

4chan has gold hidden. I have looked at the nutjobs, all muttering about the same fucking things, which is then reciprocated by media outlets a week later with more clickbaity titles and seemingly existing to cover stuff.

Ask yourself why why why.

When the next collapse happens, oil & precious minerals will rise. Bitcoin will definitely skyrocket. And all banks will plummet.

So the question is when will things collapse? And I honestly think it will happen this financial year.

I'll show you 20k worth of investments in a week or two to prove I will put my money where my mouth is.

Atleast you didn't straight out shoot my nutjob thread down. Talk more and I will answer as best as I can.
>>
>>1380450
Hey, at least you admit you are a nutjob. The first step to recovery is acceptance.

Dear Biz,

I am having a bit of an issue. I believe someone might be cashing some of my work cheques and taking the money. I am trying to figure out how to track this down. The story is that I am not recieving cheques for work. The trouble is the head of my office is the person i suspect of doing this. So I cannot simply ask around the office. Other employees are having the same problem. So either my boss is stealing from me or they are just lazy and havent sent in the paperwork for two months. I tried to check my credit scores, but having no lines of credit there is not score to check and thus I cannot see accounts in my name. Tomorrow I am going to call HQ's HR and ask around. What do?

How would you go about evaluating real estate in a certain area?

My question is, would it be a good "investment" to buy a house in a certain place for ~5 years. I have just received a job offer making pretty good money and I'm wondering what the market looks like in the future in the USA for selling a home 5 years down the road. Would it be a good investment as far as not losing an incredible amount of money, of course taking into consideration the savings like no rent and the expenses like taxes.

I just wonder if the general sentiment now is that housing in the USA is over, under, or fairly valued. I want to rent short term, however, the place I'm going has almost NO rentals and is almost exclusively on a yearly lease basis.

I don't look at real estate as a pure investment, I also like to own my own shit and not have to answer to anyone and to have the ability to raise a garden or something, just wondering what the potential is for me losing my ass. I also realize it's VERY individualistic, such as you buy a house somewhere where no sane person would live you'll never get rid of it vs having it by a river with no neighbors that has access to cable.

Need advice senpai.

I'm dropping out of school. I got screwed out of being able to finish my computer science degree due to bad decision making, depression and bullshit degree requirement changes that I won't be grandfathered into. I could start a new degree but that would take another 3 or 4 semesters. I'm almost 23 and just want to move on. I have a pretty deep seeded resentment for the university system as whole and would honestly be fucking miserable staying here.

I'd fuck off and travel for a while until I figure shit out but I have 2k credit card debt (built up during aforementioned depression) and 2 years left on car lease.

I'm a mediocre programmer and web developer but I don't have the portfolio or experience necessary to land a job without a degree. I might be able to build up a portfolio and maybe get a job in programming in a year or two if I'm lucky.

I don't have any experience in anything outside fast food and courier (which I do now). Aka my resume fucking blows for an almost 23 year old. I'm just not qualified for anything except dead end teenager jobs.

Pros: I'm reasonably attractive, sociable and good at bullshitting with authority figures so I think I can navigate the professional world better than most people in IT. Also no student debt.

Wat do???
