Obama's Economy, what went so right?

Does anyone else feel like The Obama Economy has been really... vague and hard to see? These 8 years there has been a fuckton of Obama everywhere but has there been much demanding, rule making, explaining any decisions?

It would be easier if we could point to "Obama Agreed with Janet Yellen they should do X, now home prices skyrocketed"

I actually do not understand that either... all I can tell is home prices crashed, we rejiggered some stuff then magically they rose?

It feels like at times this is one of the best economies ever, at least in the top 3.

Low gas prices, insanely powerful stock market, jobs are plentiful especially for low skilled workers. Am I wrong? This is what I keep reading.

Why is it so damn good, like, what did he do so well, or why is all of this a complete lie and how?

Trump always says our economy is total ass but its supposedly insanely good to me?

Nobody explains things in politics anymore, they just expect me to be ""hype"" but like, for what and why? I want to read a book about how Obama rescued us for economic class and just don't know where to start.

House ownership down.
Median income down.
Personal debt up.

Average age someone moves out of their parents' house is now like late 20s.

No safe vehicles for people to generate a return - you have to use the stock market or get a paltry 1-2% from savings accounts/bonds.

The national debt was also doubled under Obama - pretty easy to prop numbers up when you spend 10 trillion.

If anything, it's insane how poorly he has done, all things considered.

Superficially it appears good, but if you can look beyond the shallows it's just shit piled high with more shit stacked atop it.

By the by I love it that when the markets fall government feels perfectly entitled to rig economic conditions to make it go back up, because their rich backers own half the equities market and we wouldn't want them to be sad. Reminds me a lot of China, sort of.

Is marketing something you can learn in online-courses/books or do you need to study something related in order to get a marketing job? Do you have any good ressources? Thanks

in my experience if you can get results, you don't really have to have a degree in marketing. Most of the top tier marketers don't have one at least. You have to be willing to get the experience though

Young anon asking for saving/general advice

Hey guys,
recently I've thought alot about money and my future and ask for some general advice.

Background-Infos:
Age: 17
Job: Apprenticeship (it's common here in Austria)
Wage: 520€/month (this and next month), starting with September 700€(14 times a year, on 1st of month)
Current savings: 200€ (1.200, bought a motorcycle a few weeks ago, and have to pay 1k€ for the license-course tomorrow)
Debts: 900€ (to my father [car insurance], but it's okay for him if I pay it later this year)
Goal: get more money/get financially independent

So, as you can see I could say I'm starting off nothing right now. I got a job (6:00 - 15:00, Mo-Fr), but there'd be space for another one/computer work.
Why not another job? It's quite complicated over here in Austria with taxes and the different tax-classes. I don't even know if I am allowed to work too much besides my apprenticeship, but I'm able to talk to my uncle (tax-consultant) in a few weeks, hope to get some infos there. So, my main thought went to the IT-direction. Why? Well, I've gone to a Higher Technical College for two years, and did pretty well there. Especially in software-development (C). However, who needs a freelancing programmer who can only write C/some HTML/some C++?
So, my next thought was darknet (kek). Buying PaySafeCards/AmazonCards for cheap and selling them IRL. However, I don't know anyone who'd need a few hundred dollars of giftcards (since they are only codes it's even harder). And the risk of loosing money is too high, since they only got high-value cards. And it's too shady for me desu.

That said about jobs and stuff, let's talk about saving.
Generally I save everything that's left of my wage. Most times that are about 300-350€. From now on I'll keep 3 wages as iron-savings (savings I won't touch, only if I loose my job and can't live otherwise), will customize them depending on my income. It gets higher every year, cont...

at least for the next 4 years. Any other tips on saving?

In about 4 years (when I’m finished with my apprenticeship) I’m planning to study besides my job. I’m not sure yet if it’s good to study Automation (my job), or something with economic (preferably computer science). I’m interested in both, so that’s another thing I need advice on.

About my economic „knowledge“: I’ve read some books about economy, how it works, how the different markets affect each other, why the crashes happened, how the stock-market works, etc.
Nothing in special, but I got a little overview over all that.

I don’t know what to write anymore, so I hope that’s enough to work with. I’d be happy about some advice/what you’d to in another way/etc. If there are any questions left feel free to ask

Does anyone know someone who works for quicken loans as a mortgage banker?

There seems to be some sort of "plague" that affects anyone who either works there or has worked there. A friend of mine works there and kinda answers a question with a question when I ask him what the base pay is. I understand there is commission involved, but I told him I'm worried about the base pay because I have bills to pay and I would prefer him to be more realistic about telling me what the the pay is during training so that I won't starve or have my car repossessed.

I also told him to let me ask him some more questions about it before passing my information to the recruiter. He passed my information over so quick I didn't even get a chance to breathe. He also told me that he wouldn't receive any kind of perk for deceiving me and that I shouldn't worry and just focus on experiencing this opportunity.

Honestly, I think there's something that he's hiding, or his personal experience is overshadowing the realistic nature of the job culture and I have a bad feeling about it. Where I'm working now doesn't pay much, and the benefits suck, but I at least get weekends off and there is a realistic work/life balance.

When I asked him what is his schedule like, for example, he just told me there is a balance. I mean, why not just answer my question? What benefit do you get from not giving me a straight answer? If I were him, I would have just said, I usually work from this time to this time and they work the crap out of me. Honesty is better IMO.

Now, I'm really hesitant in calling the recruiter back because I don't want to commit to something that makes me feel uncomfortable.

I knew somebody that worked there a few years ago. he made like 75 - 90k. He's also very good. Said the schedule is fucking brutal. Be prepared to suck your bosses dick.

I feel so bad for you. Your 'friend' is a spurglord. You came to an anonymous message board because your 'friend' can't answer normal questions and you can't even maintain focus on your questions until adequate answers are given.

Hey /biz/

Anyone had problems with getting paid from a job before?

I began working for a start up company a few months ago. At first everything was fine, but slowly but surely I'm beginning to have my doubts.

It's an IC (Independent Contractor) 1099 position. Anyone familiar knows that you have to do your own taxes at the end of the year but can write off things like gas and other expenses.

At first they were paying me every week. Than all of a sudden they changed the payment process and my paychecks started getting delayed.

It's extremely difficult to go out and work 8, 10, 12 hour days for a company that you honestly don't know if they'll pay you out or if they do you'll have to hassle them and it'll take weeks and weeks.

At this point I'm waiting on a paycheck from close to a month ago and I'm crippled. I have tons of debt, I'm extremely broke, and I don't know if it's worth pursuing legal action or taking this to an extreme measure at all?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Surely there is something in the labor laws about this kind of treatment.

Sales bro here (former), this isn't unusual.

Hell, I was a W2 employee, and my former employer owes me over 3000 USD for deals I had closed (waiting on delivery of goods) before I took a different job here on the east coast..

By my employment contract I am owed that money, but I will never see it.

It can be par for the course.
>>
There are options run by your state where you can dispute wages and a case worker will follow it up with the company. If you're paying taxes the government will help you with it. Use this if you leave and then need to be paid out on what they owe.

I worked on 1099 before. You'll want an accountant during tax time. I have an independant guy who will work voodoo magic on all my shit during tax season for 150$ . He saved me bigtime when I was on 1099.

what do you do to work for them? how much do you get paid?
