Do yourself a favor and get robinhood. From there you can buy vanguard ETFs such as VOO and others to track the s&p, bonds, foreign markets ect. You will also have the option for commission free stock trading if you ever want individual stocks.

Javascript is a fucking retarded language in terms of being a language but it's easy to pick up, you can do frontend work in it (Angular, React) and also write server-side apps in it (Node.js). It's also the most hyped and popular language in the startup/Silicon Valley world right now.

If you have Firefox or Chrome, you already have a Javascript REPL you can play with... open the developer tools, so to the console, type: alert("hello world")

I don't think there is one. Maybe if you were already a visual designer you could learn front-end skills and become a JS artisan. But unless you already have such compatible skills, it will take you a while to learn enough to be worth hiring.

The entry-level developer market is incredibly flooded due to the "we need more devs" meme. What most companies really need are experienced software engineers who can build scale-able solutions and pick the appropriate technology to solve a given problem. Code camp shills like to reframe it into "learn RoR in 10 weeks and get a 100k job".
