As this relates to finances, I figured I'd post this here. Not sure where else to post this, but here goes nothing.

I'll be moving to Joplin Missouri.

Needing some advice on sleeping in my car. I have a standard 4 door sedan and the back seats do kick back. I'm needing advice on local assistance I might be able to receive. I've faced the reality that I'll be moving to an area I'm unfamiliar with and any assistance is worth while.

As far as a back story, I'm in my early 20s and had recently quit my job of working 40 - 60 hours 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift on a weekly rotation. I was falling behind in college, wasn't spending time with my child, and was facing depression. After quitting my job I've now dropped my developmental math classes and I'm on the right track to graduating on-time - which tells me I'm making the right choice. I've also been able to launch a few startup projects that are slowly starting to turn revenue, but I'm still in the negative just a few hundred dollars due to startup costs.

I'm in a sticky situation as quitting my job has left the bills piling, creditors calling, and a stringy mess of a situation really. I'm a father of one, with visitation rights, that's facing the barrel of an unfair family court system, but that's another story for another time. Good news is I have an above minimum wage job waiting for me in Joplin, but no housing in the foreseeable future. I'm planning on sleeping in my car for a few months to save up money, pay off my car (if I can last that long), keep up with child support, and keep my finances in check while being able to maintain college.

Which is why I'm coming to you for assistance.

Do you have any tips n' tricks that I might not be able to stumble upon the Internet? What am I looking forward to in Joplin? What should I look out for?

Try and find some mcdonalds thats open 24/7 and park in their parking lot if you want to sleep there. Get a window visor to block the sun and keep cool. Save as much money as you can. possibly get a sleeping bag or some kind of inflatable mattress that can fit in your car. eat as cheaply as possible. Get a gym membership so you can use their showers and shave there. Work out there while you can. If you have enough money saved rent a storage unit and make it a makeshift house. Collect and recycle cans and search for change constantly. Do side jobs on craigslist or even uber to supplement your income. Good luck my dude

I had an interview and they asked me to "give an example of a time where you went out of your way to ensure someone else was treated with respect"

I went full autism and said "sometimes I buy food for homeless people".

Seriously, how was I supposed to answer that question?

I give my bus seat to old people, I take care of my friends, etc. What exactly did they want to know?

They don't care about what charitable things you do, they care about how well you can market yourself to idiots who do care.

Just say you give to charity or something, then very briefly explain how important that charity is to the community and how you care about its mission, but really don't oversell it.

Anyone here use flippa . c?om
Is it a good way to invest for a small somewhat established drop shipping site? A few hundred to take up a few hours of my week for some extra cash flow? Any tips or experiences?

What I am interested in, is can I trust those niggers saying they make 77k$ a year. No way for me to prove that.
>>
>>1446072
Well I wouldn't trust it. But I was thinking more along the lines of a more reasonable market. A site that claims huge sales is sketchy. But 20 or 30 sales a month would interest me, especially if I can increase that by hard work. I just quit smoking so this month wtf not spend 200$ on a website and take a chance lol it normally used to go to my lungs anyway

Where do I get professional references for applying to jobs and internships? I've held a couple retail jobs through college so far, but they have super high turnover rates there so I struggle to contact anyone I worked with. Can I list some of my professors if I've participated in research?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Anyone?
>>
I'm about to be a sophomore at uni so my advice won't be that great but you should definitely list professors that youve done research with, especially if it applies to your major or career path.
>>
Depends on the job sector I suppose, I listed my professors as referees but then I am in a research physics position so it's extremely relevent to university work.

I think most grad employers understand you don't have professional references straight out of uni and take that into account really.

i'm going to columbia though so finding a job in the financial sector shouldn't be too hard
>>
I'm torn between Econ-Stats and Fin-Econ.

I doubled in History and Econ and it was pretty satisfying. Believe it or not, many business-minded students can't write for shit, especially when it's longer than one paragraph. A traditional liberal discipline like philosophy, literature, or history can add lots of flair to what would otherwise be prosaic clusterfucks of charts.

One of life's greatest treasures is quitting a job without notice or telling anyone at work about it.

I pick up my most recent check and just don't go to work that day. I stay home playing videogames for hours, knowing I've saved up enough to enjoy the next month or two off before my job starts.

It's ecstasy when I check my phone and see something hilarious like 6 missed calls from work.

Get fucked, manager.
>>
>>1445924
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful, my friend.

I'm thinking about pretending to be nice to my bitch manager who's passive aggressive as fuck. I would just stop going to work there but I have friends that I will miss and want to say goodbye to.
>>
>>1445909
Nah, I'm kind of friends with most of my managers. Would feel like a cunt and wouldn't want to burn any bridges even if walking out felt good in the moment. Even if the job is hell, riding out the two week notice and biting your tongue is the better option.

I've developed a computerized system based on the phenomenon of Predictive Anticipatory Activity (PAA) that I use to predict the financial markets and make ultra-fast trades.

I have a rented warehouse filled with 8 sound-proof booths, each containing a goat that is hooked up to machines measuring bio-indicators like heart rate etc. In each booth there is a program tracking a different market and depending on how I set the settings they track different markets and stocks. When there is a very large gain in one of the markets it causes a loud buzzer to go off in the soundproof room which startles the goat which can measured from the machines they are hooked up to.

Because of the phenomena of PAA though the signs of this change in the goat's physiology actually appear around 10 seconds before it happens and before the actual rise in the stock etc. The program is designed to utilize that 10-second advantage to automatically buy into certain stocks before they shoot up a bunch. Then it sells them at the inflated price for a profit.

I make an average of $400,000 a week doing this.

Explain to me this, why would anyone invest in real estate when there are REITS and index funds?

Why would anyone invest in a REIT when there are index funds?

Which ones you prefer and why?

because they hope the REIT will return more for the given risk.

why does anyone invest in anything?

>because they hope the REIT will return more for the given risk.

But what is the logical basis and calculation for it?
>>
Because part of the higher return of direct investment in Real Estate derives from the management and physical work put into the ownership. Many have day jobs and don't want to do that, even though it is possible to get quite rich becoming a land lord of proper leverage is employed.

Replying because Charlie Kelly

I'm in my 3rd year and its definitely one of the best business degrees, depends highly on your ability to socialise and network but most people doing finance are pretty cool relative to other courses so its chill. Just do heaps of extra-curricular shit, volunteer, join an economics club, call stockbrokers for weekend work and there is a good chance you'll get rich. Look into the latest developments in machine learning money management though so you can find out what areas to avoid. Also its not heavy on maths but try to get a good knowledge of the basics down before you start

Dying fiat money systems.

- large premine
- flexible inflation decided on by unelected delegates
- Only special parties are allowed to mine fiat currency by lending it into existence to their buddys
>>
>>1445840
i used to think this viewpoint was ridiculous due to brainwashing at university, but i've over time come to the conclusion that the economic situation the world is in is completely the fault of the central banks of the world.
>>
>>1445824
Lower Chinese demand may have began it but falling commodities like oil etc in response to USD exporting their inflation, all this along with record low rates as central banks begin a devaluation war essentially, markets have been propped to their fullest extent almost, with maybe a quarter of growth being actually fundamental. The stimulus packages unleashed have already been exhausted now with European instability and uncertainty
